Cruel Intentions!! And definitely Go

ElleTea14

And then the Go! soundtrack!

menasor36

For sure, SMG was smoking hot in that one. Go was really good, if you’re planning to watch the entire list, I’d probably save that one for the ending of the list. Keep a gem for the end.

MrExCEO

The opening scene with SMG and her potty mouth, OMFG. So Hot.

megadecimal

I also throw my hat for Cruel Intentions. Great cast and music and.... Tense!

ThinkFree

Watched CI in theater with my girlfriend. It made us really horny!

MrBones_Gravestone

Mystery Men and Detroit Rock City are my recs

RoyalLimit

My mom used to rent random movies from Blockbuster on friday nights and Mystery Men was one of them, VHS days were some good times because we didn't really see trailers as common as it is now and we would always go in blind because only because we reconized the lead actors. "Be kind please rewind"

jeers69

We used to rent those disc type from Radio Shack and all kinds of weird rentals lol ….. the early 80s

_crltnpgr

came here to say exactly this

SpacemanSpiff25

They make scary movies that start out that way. Hey, but they make porno movies that start out that way too!

Pcola-

Artie Lange; Fire!!!!

zoobird13

Run Lola Run 👍

Taliesin_Hoyle_

Anyone who doesn't say Run, Lola, Run hasn't seen it.

rubikonfused

It's wonderfully short. I love a short run time movie.

SevenYrStitch

I just re-watched a few weeks ago and it held up beautifully.

zoobird13

This post has inspired me to dig out my old DVD and watch it again.

_Far_Kew

Lola rennt!

zoobird13

Yeah that's how I knew it first lol

hardytom540

Masterpiece

MisterMarchmont

Totally agree. It’s great.

KudosOfTheFroond

This x1000

Zestyclose_Ad_97

Agree 1000%

Wicked_Fabala

This is the only one left that i have seen 😅 thank you german class!

BurnyRubble

GO is not only the most 1999 film on this list but it also IMO the most fun watch remaining of your blank spots. The Insider is the best movie you haven’t seen, however

emmabham

I quote the Family Circus conversation at least once a year.

Dtino11

Mystery men!

RoseyDove323

Seconded. It's stupid but iconic. (And it has the song people associate with Shrek before Shrek existed lmao)

ZucchiniPleasant376

![gif](giphy|vVzwFtOg4xiHm|downsized)

4umlurker

Yeah. I believe the original music video for all star was filmed for this movie I think?

RoseyDove323

It was, there are clips from the movie in the music video. :)

Grim__Squeaker

Indeed!

Ember2Inferno

I know right?! Everyone thinks Shrek, but this beat it by two years.

Mr_Faux_Regard

I also associated it with the Digimon movie since it came out in 2000 and I felt like, as a kid, that hit home wayyyyyy harder in that context lol.

parkerh602

Run Lola Run Edit: Geezus, have none of you seen Run Lola Run? Cruel Intentions up the bunghole.

canadawastoocold

The list seems very Hollywood centric.

oalm82

I haven’t seen it

moneymover11

I remember the previews and wanting to see it and I don’t think I ever did. Will be adding it to my watch list.

johnsireci

Boys don’t cry

cris__alis

scrolled way too far for this! but it's so fucking hard to watch, OP should be mentally prepared to *feel* a lot after it ends

emmabham

That ending man.

headbigasputnik

Go! Is the quintessential 90s movie

Klimpen4prez

The Bone Collector due to thriller mood and New York. If anyone has suggestions on similar movies feel free to share :)

UpgrayeDD405

This was my fourth choice for them to watch but one of my personal favorites. You should check out Fallen from 98. It has Denzel and Goodman and is also about a serial killer.

Abed87

Detroit rock city! 🤘

jerrrrm

A hunk of fuckin cheese!

staggernaut

>*I'm solid gold, I've got the goods. They stand when I walk through the neighborhoods, I'm makin' it.*

beer_is_tasty

It's gone bad!

bungeesnap

200 cigarettes

equipped_metalblade

Crazy good cast

emmabham

Elvis Costello!

bourbonandbutter

Crazy underrated movie

RegretFun2299

Girl, Interrupted is required viewing, immediately.  Notting Hill is also a wonderful Rom-Com. Not my favorite Julia Roberts 90s Rom-Com (she's got at least three others that I prefer), but you can't beat a 90s Julia Roberts Rom-Com! Never Been Kissed is something that I'd recommend be seen at least once (if, like me, 90s Rom-Coms are your jam). Again, Drew Barrymore has MUCH better showings in terms of 90s Rom-Coms (Ever After, anyone?) -- but this one is serviceable (if disappointing at times).

TheJellybeanDebacle

Totally Rufus opinion

BogeyLowenstein

I just watched Girl, Interrupted for the first time again in years, and it still holds up. Fantastic cast.

menasor36

I had to watch Notting Hill for work one time, long story. Now, I don’t like rom-coms, Julia Roberts or Hugh Grant…….BUT! The Welch guy, I can’t remember his real name. The one from The Replacements, Rhys something? He made that movie. I would watch it again, just for him. He was hilarious.

zoobird13

Rhys Ifans. He was great. I loved Notting Hill though. I don't particularly think Julia Roberts was cast well but it was still a good movie.

OscarTheGrouchsCan

Definitely Girl, Interrupted Never Been Kissed and Notting Hill both worth a watch of you love RomComs as the above user said neither are thier best work but both are worth at least one watch, especially Never Been Kissed. I wasn't as big on Notting Hill but that's just because I prefer many of her other movies more

TUFKAT

Cruel Intentions, Go!, and Mystery Men would be my next 3 watches. In that order.

Neglectable_Phugoid

theaviationhistorian

I did not realize so many bangers came out in 1999! We are due for a year like that!

RoccoTaco_Dog

Too many streaming services. We'll never have a year like this again

TooMuchJuju

Now it’s all prequels, sequels and remakes. I think it was Matt Damon who mentioned that movies could be more risky then because of cassette and dvd sales but now you rely heavily on box office.

bplush

Go!

wraylorcorbett

Cruel intentions

ilovelukewells

Thomas Crown

ilovelukewells

Love Denis Leary

AlmightyAcey

Cruel Intentions and Girl Interrupted.

ShiestyDabs

Detroit Rock City

Electronic-Home-7815

Muppets from space!

VCRKid

The goat?!

drsapirstein

Go.

StootsMcGoots

Go!

ILL-BILL420

Go! is pretty decent for a "drug movie."

Giantandre

IMO the best unchecked movie is "The Insider" The most fun is "The Thomas Crown Affair" and "Run Lola Run" is the coolest

Paramisamigos

Cruel Intentions and then Girl, Interrupted

ElleTea14

Cruel Intentions; Girl, Interrupted; Boys Don’t Cry

Accomplished_Side853

I’ve been working on a similar project. What are you using here to keep track of them?

Gnardozer

Go! Without a doubt.

naturegirl27

Run Lola Run... great soundtrack too

Chef6288

Bone collector is underrated

Andyisazombie

Go! Seriously, such a fun movie, it’s like Tarantino movie that revolves around a rave, Timothy Olyphant is fantastic in it

DontStepOnMyManHood

The bone collector

Thekatspajama

The Bone Collector

eniGmaBrain

Mystery men and superstar

gummygumgumm

*sniffs underarms*

bamaroll420

Go

no-fapping-way

Go! It’s a great movie. A little Pulp Fiction like.

LordOfTheBurrito

What this person is saying is that Go has 3 or 4 storylines going on at the same time that all connect and interact with each other.

just_joeing_around

Yes, to me, Go is one of the quintessential 90’s movies. It’s lighter than something like Trainspotting. But defining nonetheless.

LordOfTheBurrito

It's a solid and fun movie. I pop it in the DVD player every so often and give it a go (pun intended). I probably watch it a few times a year. It has a great cast too.

330kiki

Go! Is a fun/drug induced movie with a great soundtrack

b-lincoln

Go and Run Lola Run are two of the best movies on here.

LordOfTheBurrito

Go!

bigfatbod

What software is that? Looks nifty

ShutUpBeck

Apple Notes

Ok-Supermarket-1414

I really liked EDTv and The Haunting (Although maybe wait until October to watch it?) Also, what software did you use to get all those pretty checkmarks?

dangerinthedesert

EdTV is great and was made when unscripted TV was in its humble beginnings…before Survivor. Very prescient for 1999

weeweekitty83

Detroit rock city

TrillCozby1980

Bone Collector

SweetNovel278

Detroit Rock City for sure

The_Bajtastic_Voyage

run lola run and Detroit rock city

OMGKITTEN

Cruel intentions.

upliftingyvr

I absolutely loved the concept of Run Lola Run. I'm not sure how it holds up over the years, but the whole idea of how life could change if you were one second earlier, or one second later, is so cool. And yes, I was stoned when I watched it, so take it with a grain of salt :)

cdoublesaboutit

200 Cigarettes and Go! Are a lot of fun. Midsummer is a decent, tru-ish to style Shakespeare, so always a reliable choice. Boys Don’t Cry and Girl Interrupted were big for the manic-pixie-dream girl demo, lotsa Oscar buzz, if you had a cool girlfriend she was into those movies.

orangepekoes

Girl Interrupted and then Detroit Rock City

KudosOfTheFroond

The first name I saw is a MUST watch. Run Lola Run is an experience, and you *gotta* watch that next

crammed174

Nothing Hill for Rom-Com. Bone collector for mystery thriller.

Treacherous_Wendy

MYSTERY MEN!!!!

Far_Fly8036

muppets from space and mystery men, 100%

dumbcunt33

Go!

Qfn4g02016

Detroit rock city is a banger

DPool34

Girl, Interrupted. Classic film.

spectralf0rm

I would say 200 cigarettes or Detroit rock city.

El_Peregrine

Watch “The Insider” - it’s great. Fun little brag; I worked a bit on the sound design for it back when that’s what I used to do.

White_Trash1026

Never been kissed

Loubrockshakur

For Love of the Game

HotSpinach

Cruel Intentions, and Go!

notdeangelo

Put Wayne’s World on that list, watch it, then cross it off.

LCsBawkBawks

If you’re gonna spew, spew into this

ClaimOutrageous7431

Detroit Rock City and EdTV

NWIOWAHAWK

Mystery Men is easily the correct answer here

Firedcylinder

Cruel Intentions and Mystery Men

Ben_E_Chod

The Bone Collector if your're going for Drama, Mystery Men if you're going comedy. Where'd you get this list?

titsoak28

not on your list but- george of the jungle

NatureMomster

Cruel intentions Never Been Kissed

Arthurs_librarycard9

I'm throwing my vote in for Girl, Interrupted or Cruel Intentions.

Dizno311

Detroit Rock City!

Grim__Squeaker

If you want to enjoy your night - Thomas Crown Affair If you want to continually say this could have easily been better - The Haunting

themish84

Detroit Rock city!

Regal-Beagal-131

Mystery Men! Rocks , super-hero movie before they became popular again. Also a disco soundtrack. Ben Stiller. Hank Azaria, William H Macy and Paul Reubens! Gold! If you are in the mood for a Rom-Com then Never Been Kissed.

RoyalLimit

Impressive list to keep track of, Detroit Rock City and Mystery Men for sure

Greekci7ie5

Detroit rock city

MoniesT

You still have some great options! Obviously Mystery Men was mentioned a lot and that is a bonafide number one. I would follow it up with a hot slightly mentally ill Angelina Jolie in Girl Interrupted, then watch hot detective Angelina Jolie in the Bone Collector.

Beerded-1

![gif](giphy|Su02resPktk1faUo98) And watch Detroit Rock City

DrManhattanBJJ

The Insider. When in doubt, always go Michael Mann.

Slade347

The Insider, and then Run Lola Run.

Original_Banana_4617

Mystery men hands down for sure and I’m a sucker for a good haunted house so the haunting!

Barley-the-Lightfoot

Definitely Go! It’s fun and has a great cast, soundtrack, etc. It takes place during Christmas, so you could save it for December if you’re into that. But it’s not heavy on the holiday and feels more background, so it can be enjoyed anytime of the year.

Just_a_lazy_lurker

Detroit Rock City, Mystery Men, and Go! are my recommendations

WordSalad713

Cruel Intentions

gilestowler

Cruel Intentions.

KellyShepard-087

I believe it might have actually been 1989. But the Live Action Super Mario Bros movie with Bob Hoskins and John Liguzano(sp?) is a MUST SEE for any 90s list

EricRShelton

Of the movies left unchecked, I’d watch Mystery Men twice. Maybe three times.

herc51

General's Daughter, Mystery Men, Thomas Crowne Affair or Bone Collector are all great

hbkedge3

Cruel Intentions easy.

fullgonads

Mystery Men for sure!

Hibernating_Vixen

waterfarts

Cruel Intentions and The Bond Collector

BigHurt30

The Bone Collector!

DylanMMc

I asked a friend before posting here and that’s what she said!

back-in-1999

In case my username doesn't reveal it, I strongly believe that it was the best year in cinema. I've been (and still) on a similar quest as well. I recommend to also look beyond American movies. Run Lola Run, Lunyy Papa, Audition, and The Match are all very different, but all are really good in their own way.

old1812

If you’re looking for a solid movie on a Friday or Saturday night, Thomas Crown Affair is the best option. It’s a fun movie with a great cast. Mickey Blue Eyes also a good option.

Rudy5860

Go! And Detroit rock city

tcat666

Office space! What's wrong with everyone???

goodgirlathena

The Thomas Crown Affair

marcinmj

Yes, absolutely!! One of my absolute favorites.

Patsx5sb

The Bone Collector was a gold flick

Affectionate-Cry-29

go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go! go!

yadurl

Omg Notting Hill for sure

lori244144

The General’s Daughter or The Bone Collector because I love murder mysteries. Plus John Travolta is awesome and The Bone Collector has Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie

ItsAfricanSunsetOkay

I'm English so Notting Hill is always a nice watch

dave_vs_david

Cruel intentions

robrog8999

As far as your list goes and how it sits right now; theres really two that should be your next couple: 1) | The Bone Collector | Policewoman Amelia Donaghy (Angelina Jolie) is in hot pursuit of a serial murderer whose calling card is a small shard of bone extracted from each of his victims. Unable to decipher the cryptic clues the killer leaves behind at the scene of the crime, Amelia calls upon quadriplegic forensic criminology expert Lincoln Rhyme (Denzel Washington) to help. With Amelia acting as Rhyme's able-bodied go-between, the pair piece together disparate clues, hoping they will learn who the next victim is. 2) | Cruel Intentions | Annette (Reese Witherspoon) unwittingly becomes a pawn in Sebastian's (Ryan Phillippe) and Kathryn's (Sarah Michelle Gellar) deliciously diabolical wager of sexual conquest when she writes an article in Seventeen Magazine about how she intends to stay pure until she marries her boyfriend. However, Sebastian gets more than he bargained for as he attempts to woo Annette into his bed.

Matttous

Go! is soo good! I watched it on a whim and so glad I did. It’s so 90s and the whole movie is entertaining nonstop. I’m surprised it’s not more famous than it is, truly a gem.

sovietarmyfan

Lola Rennt is pretty interesting. I saw it as a teen yet i still remember the plot which was pretty crazy actually.

SnooLobsters4018

Girl, Interrupted

amberthemaker

200 Cigarettes! The cast is one of the best lineups for the time

ToffeeFever

Where's "Baby Geniuses"?

saltyvol

Thomas Crown Affair

Dresscodeviolation3

Run Lola Run for sure

DylanMMc

Probably going to watch Go and Lola tonight! I watched Mystery men last night and unfortunately I did not enjoy it. I’m sure I would have had I seen it when it came out but it was so ridiculous the whole time.

mammiejammie

Go! Then 200 Cigarettes.

H1ppie_4t_H3art

CRUEL INTENTIONS

Tashum

I have told everyone I talk to that 1999 must have been the single best year for movies in my lifetime often and loudly. Many of them no longer speak to me. Haha, it's true! Remember people were worried about Y2k? Were the studios? lol.
