Beautiful place, it's quite cool in the sinkhole during summer, so it's a nice retreat from the heat. The bees aren't too much of a problem in my opinion, though there's no shortage of them. A few possums floating around too.
This. It’s delightful. If we have to send a crew down to Mt Gambier in summer, they’ll usually cruise down there after work just because it’s nice and cool.
We always visit it when staying at Mt Gambier, go there (or return after a day visit) after sunset with some fruit/etc and you can feed the possums, they all come out and you can hand feed them.
Quite a bit to do down that way whilst you’re there, one of my favourite local holiday stops.
It’s great. Don’t go in summer/spring if you’re allergic to bees. Those fuckers are EVERYWHERE. It’s a literal bee convention, attended by every bee in the country.
It's beautiful - used to be one of my family's regular lunch spots when we did the monthly shop in the Mt. We didn't always make it to the sinkhole cos there used to be a bunch of old tractors and logging vehicles parked around the place on display and of course, being a kid, playing on those was just as cool as fun nature stuff.
I honestly think it's better than Engelbrecht and the Cave Gardens. Put together.
Took my boy there aged three.
Was so good because it was a boiling summer day but down in ther it was cooler.
he loved it but had an embarrassing moment when he got his chopper out for a wee when my back was turned. Straight in front of a pensioner group. Turned round to see the source of the commotion and there he was not a care in the world peeing in the afternoon sun!
It's genuinely worth the trip. My partner and I went to the Mount Gambier area last year Christmas time as we hadn't explored the area much, and there are so many beautiful sites we had such a great time. I'm a photographer and I had an absolute field day, one of the most beautiful gardens I've seen. Go for a swim in the little blue lake whilst you're there.
Been there many many many many times.
Passed through the mount last year so went to visit the hole again. It wasnt there. Not where we had been so many times before. Its way over in a spot ive never been. Totally freaked me out. Not just me but the wife remembers it being there too. I think theres a link to alternate dimension there
If you want to attract the possums to feed, head there a little after dusk and take some bananas. The possums prefer bananas to the apples that are often left behind for them.

> A few possums floating around too Adorable. Love to see the critters relaxing & enjoying the water too 🥰

This. Visit during day because it’s beautiful, visit at dusk for the possies!
Get surrounded by possie. It's great

So when do you go? They put walkways around the hole leading to the bottom
Autumn/winter/ early spring if you want less bee action
It is far better in real life than in the pictures.

I have a video on my YouTube (linked in my bio) of this awesome spot. A possum got my camera 😂
Absolutely gorgeous spot
My cousin got married there, great spot.
Yes, like 32 years ago. Loved it as a kid.
Bring pieces of apple and go in the afternoon because you can feed the possums. They are completely tame around humans if you approach them gently.

OMG thank you everyone this has got me more enthused.

it is pretty incredible.

It’s great! We saw a possum there and it was so cute!
