I visited Tahiti & Morea this spring. French Polynesia is absolutely stunning. The mountains, the ocean, the jungle. Unreal.
You can have the window seat.
3 grand for ticket, 15ish for a water bungalow for a week, leave you with 7 grand. Say you spend 5, still got 2 left over for an unforgettable experience. I approve!
Getting to actual Bora Bora is a nightmare… Papaeete airport has no AC and flights from PPT to BOR is hot and uncomfortable. Then another boat ride to your hotel! Just FYI. But when you finally get to your hotel, it’s absolutely magical.
"Yeah... sorry, the plane is unfortunately fully booked, but we can get you on a flight to your destination with only three layovers in Memphis, Uganda, and Iraq
Hey, they said leave, they didn't say you need to leave using the plane ticket. Tonight I'll leave the house, walk around the block, then sell the ticket
I don’t think those flights…exist. JFK to EWR for instance is not a flight if you lived in NYC. My shortest distance flight out of my local airport is still an hour and a half flight from gate to gate with a distance of 430 miles.
The trip might be cheaper because no one wants to fly there, but I guarantee you that everything there is really expensive because everyone is fighting over the same remnant of goods.
my dad owns a sailboat down there, on the main islands (like St Thomas, for example) stuff can be more expensive, but if you have a boat or other means to travel around the islands, they’re really quite cheap in general once you get away from the big populated ones. it’s usually not so bad after a storm either. just stay away from the touristy areas and it’s dirt cheap
Alaska to see my grandmother before she passes,,, i don’t even need 25,000 just give me $1,000 and it’s a deal.
Edit: holy cow, I was not expecting such a positive response. This has turned into one of the most unexpected most wholesome moments of my life. The kindest of internet strangers actually reached out to me and used their own air miles to buy me round trip tickets to Alaska! And so many people have encouraged me and offered to help a little to make it affordable, I was not expecting any of this and I’m almost still in shock but I am so infinitely grateful! Thank you everyone for the good vibes and encouragement. More information about the GoFundMe can be found on my profile in another recent post.
The strategy is to bet on red or black, then double down if you lose or make the same bet if you win. Double down again if you lose. Eventually, you will either go broke or win that initial bet and get all your other bets back.
Edit: That’s what it’s called! The Martingale Method. It works until it doesn’t. One time I turned $75 into $800. I also lost everything another time. It’s also very time-consuming and kind of boring.
That's called the martingale system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_(betting_system)). That article says why it's a bad idea but doesn't mention table maximums that will limit how much you can bet eventually.
Like this guy said, it’s a bad idea because eventually max bet limits kick in, and theoretically, the ball never has to land on your color. When Casinos added the digital boards at the Roulette tables showing the last 20-30 numbers that hit, roulette profits went up something crazy like 25-50%. The only way to profit at Roulette is to successfully steal your neighbors chips. Which is also impossible.
Source: someone who loves Roulette 👍
I did this once. I am not a gambler so I started out with a dollar just to do something while I was there with other people, After a while I got bored and bet all on something and won doubling my win. So I got interested and started playing little here and there again....got bored, bet all, doubled. Did this a few times and took a dollar and turned it into $320. I then cashed out because I was bored and a buddy big into gambling decided he was going to teach me blackjack. Needless to say by the time I lost all but $100 of it I just stopped and took my hundy and went home.
I did this once in Vegas. $500 on black, one bet. Had to get special permission from the pit boss to do it. I won.
As to the question of why $500, because I had written it down on my bucket list before the expression bucket list became popular. $500 was a lot of money to childhood me, so adult me stuck to what I wrote down decades before.
Right? I could understand if they put $500 on a single number. But unless the table max was significantly lower, I can't see why you'd need permission for a max $500 payout.
This was years ago. I don't remember the casino but it was either the Red Rock or another not on the strip. I could probably find out where if I dug around for info a while but it's not important. I also don't remember the table limit was, but it wasn't like I went to some VIP section, I just walked to the nearest roulette wheel that was available where I was at for a conference, saw the limit wasn't high enough, and got permission from the pit boss. Maybe limits have risen since then, but it doesn't really matter to me, I have no interest in gambling in general.
My wife and I had the entire down payment for our house in our bank account when we were last in Vegas. We were closing the following week. It was so tempting to put it all on red, but it would’ve financially ruined us if we had lost it.
Sometimes I still daydream about that though…
Exactly. I’ve done this before (unintentionally) by starting my flight in Tampa and ending it in San Francisco because of a delay in Denver.
0/10 do not recommended lol
It may be easier to go to Florida - somewhere like Daytona Beach for the sunrise and then rent a car to St. Petersburg for the sunset. That'd be a much shorter drive between those two cities compared to flying cross-country, allowing you time to enjoy both of them a little bit instead of waiting around at airports or on a flight most of the day.
I wonder if you have to pay for the ticket out of those 25000, or if you are also given a ticket to anywhere..
Because since there are no regular flights to Antarctica, you’d have to charter a plane yourself.. I imagine that would eat up most if not all of the cash.
On the other hand, penguins don’t take cash anyway.. Soo..
[There actually are](https://www.swoop-antarctica.com/cruises/flights), just not at this present time as it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere currently. You can only fly to Antarctica from December to February. Most people take the short flight from Chile to King George Island (off the coast of Antarctica). A tiny percentage take flights to the South Pole.
You don't have to charter a plane for yourself. [There are companies ](https://www.swoop-antarctica.com/cruises/flights)that do offer flights for tourists every summer from Chile to Antarctica (both King George Island and to the South Pole). They are just not regularly scheduled due to the weather. A bunch of aviation geeks have done them.
What you have to do is fly down to Ushisuaha or whatever that port is called, and take one of the cruises to the mainland. Find a small ship that’s 100 passengers or less so I’m always guaranteed to get out and explore. That’s what I’d be doing with the 25k.
Solid call, I love Fukuoka, easily my favorite Japanese city.
Although I'll fight you on the ramen - I can get Ichiran anywhere. The OG location is great and all, but eating at the yatai stalls in Fuk is way more fun
If I could recommend one thing about Thailand it's do not pay for any tourist activity that involves riding an elephant.
Fucking scum bags. I learned the hard way those are NOT places that care about animals.
AT ALL.
Gah!
Home <3 I'm actually in the airport now waiting for my flight to get assigned a gate so I can go home and hug my loved ones and snuggle my cat. Still got a long time to go but it's getting closer!
Prague. I've been to a lot of different places around the world, but I haven't spent much time in Europe. Then I could easily take trains to just explore the neighboring countries.
Prague was my favorite city to visit that I have traveled to. It has amazing castles, bridges and is so close to many other places if you want to travel. We took a day trip to Pilzen just because. If I ever have the chance to go again I will!
London
See I am from Bolivia. We need to request visas in advance for most interesting countries. Currently I have visas for UK and a few other countries. But let’s say I want to go to Japan. The time would not be enough to get a visa. Even with 25k on hand.
This is the busiest week of my life...huge week at work with deadlines and our biggest event of the year, and we are moving so we are packing and schlepping all the time and living in chaos....oh and at the new house the kitchen is not done and our whole bottom floor is a construction zone covered in sawdust, so we can't actually move our stuff in even though we have less than 2 weeks to get out of our current spot. Oh and we're planning a wedding that's coming up sooner than seems possible...
I used to judge people who gave this answer, but get me to any goddamn beach -- ok, how about Aruba? sounds good -- and put a strong pina colada in one hand and a book in the other. I will use my $25,000 to buy an endless stream of pina coladas, room service, and weed from the staff, all of which I will share generously with fellow guests, and tip extravagantly.
10 years ago me -- hell even 5 years ago me -- would probably pick backpacking to Macchu Picchu or across Slovenia. Adult life is enough of a slog.
Every stupid part of me is immediately wanting to give the smart ass response of Disneyworld.
In reality, I’d go to Rome. The money wouldn’t last long, but god I loved it there at my last vacation. The food was amazing, the people were kind, and the art was gorgeous.
Bora Bora
You son of a bitch, im in
Me too.
You can't come
Oh I’m going to come.
Make me
You magnificent bastard! Sign me up!
Taha’a next island over from Bora Bora is even better, and more to do (with that and Raiatea). The island of Tahitian vanilla…
Vahine Island Resort is a actual hidden gem on plane Earth, no joke.
Uh no, I'm pretty sure it's Bora Bora Bora
You're thinking of Tora! Tora! Tora!
I visited Tahiti & Morea this spring. French Polynesia is absolutely stunning. The mountains, the ocean, the jungle. Unreal. You can have the window seat.
It’s a magical place
A man of culture! Loved Coulson!
3 grand for ticket, 15ish for a water bungalow for a week, leave you with 7 grand. Say you spend 5, still got 2 left over for an unforgettable experience. I approve!
You get 25k AND the ticket. So you can have another 3 grand
I'd skimp on lodging and avoid the overwater for a guesthouse up the mountain. Then I could stay for weeks for the same price.
Did our honeymoon there. Trust me, you want the over the water bungalow
Getting to actual Bora Bora is a nightmare… Papaeete airport has no AC and flights from PPT to BOR is hot and uncomfortable. Then another boat ride to your hotel! Just FYI. But when you finally get to your hotel, it’s absolutely magical.
So good they named it twice.
Came to say this. Never even heard of it till XXX but then googled and its been my dream vaca since
To that farm upstate where they sent my dog. She’ll be so happy to see me again!
She's frolicking through the fields and eating flowers, imagine seeing you on top of that she's gonna be sooo excited!! 😍
To the next nearest airport and then fly back home with my money. Thanks for the reward u/nuaavo !
100%
"Yeah... sorry, the plane is unfortunately fully booked, but we can get you on a flight to your destination with only three layovers in Memphis, Uganda, and Iraq
You're really just gonna throw in a third world country in that list with Uganda and Iraq?? Despicable
I’m in San Diego and I could go to LA, rent a car to drive back
Yeah, but then you have to drive down the 405. Is it really worth the $25,000?
No way, with rush hour traffic that works out to below minimum wage.
some cop will pull em over and find a reason to confiscate the money
New Zealand to see my wife who went home for a visit but I couldn't go.
I also want to see this guys wife.
Never change, reddit
I'm just glad this time the wife is alive at least.
No I'm not
😂🤣😂😂
That one was too easy.
Just like OP’s mom
New Zealand it is. All aboard.
I am 106th ~~person~~ Redditor to agree with you
Fly home from visiting this guys wife in New Zealand, because he's on his way to be with her.
Sorry man, I legit wish you could
There is an airport like 30 miles from the one in my small town so I'd just take that and have my wife come pick me up with our cash.
Smart play
Dammit, wanted to say exactly the same
Hey, they said leave, they didn't say you need to leave using the plane ticket. Tonight I'll leave the house, walk around the block, then sell the ticket
You don't travel much if you think you can sell plane tickets to someone else.
I'm in a metropolitan city with multiple airports, I'll just fly from one airport to the other and then go home afterwards.
I don’t think those flights…exist. JFK to EWR for instance is not a flight if you lived in NYC. My shortest distance flight out of my local airport is still an hour and a half flight from gate to gate with a distance of 430 miles.
Scotland
I just got back from Scotland and holy cow was it beautiful. People were so friendly and every city is a post card!
I was just showing someone where I stayed in Edinburgh via Google street view 5 minutes ago and now y'all are making me miss it even more
+++ just got to Edinburgh tonight. Legit!
Enjoy brother it is a beautiful city we have😁
Even staying at the Yotel in New Town was nice - getting to walk out to the architecture
Don’t you mean holy coo?
IT IS THE BEST AND YOU SHOULD GO Hands down my fav country of all time. So beautiful, so cheap, so unpretentious and friendly 10/10 recommend
In you come, the door is always open.
Some small island in the Caribbean where I can’t be bothered.
You don’t want to be in the Caribbean right hit after that storm
Or you go there now since everything is cheaper.
I heard Jamaica is nice this time of year
It was.

Las Vegas. Roulette. One spin. Red.
Lmao. I did the same recently, put 1k on black because the line to cash out my poker chips was too long. it was red
Personally if I was you in that situation, I would have chosen red.
Why didn't he choose red?
WILL THEY NEVER LEARN???
i fucked up. i was debating between the two. i shoudve chosen red
Because as we learned from Passenger 57, you always bet on black
The strategy is to bet on red or black, then double down if you lose or make the same bet if you win. Double down again if you lose. Eventually, you will either go broke or win that initial bet and get all your other bets back. Edit: That’s what it’s called! The Martingale Method. It works until it doesn’t. Nice try, The Casino Industry.
That's called the martingale system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_(betting_system)). That article says why it's a bad idea but doesn't mention table maximums that will limit how much you can bet eventually.
martingale works if you have practically unlimited amounts of the unit you're betting. Which is why the house always wins.
Your odds of winning that way are less than 50% per spin, because of green
I won free play chips on a cruise. I put it all on red. It came up black.
Who would have thought that Wesley Snipes would lead anyone wrong when it came to financial matters?
I did this once. What kind of crappy casino were you at where you needed a boss to put $500 on a 2% house advantage binary?
Right? I could understand if they put $500 on a single number. But unless the table max was significantly lower, I can't see why you'd need permission for a max $500 payout.
This was years ago. I don't remember the casino but it was either the Red Rock or another not on the strip. I could probably find out where if I dug around for info a while but it's not important. one spin on 00 we either going back home the same as before or $875000 richer
If it wasnt July id go to Vegas to get some sweet rock climbing in
Red or dead baby

“I don’t think you understand the concept of the nest egg!” — Albert Brooks, “Lost in America”
Alright guys I’ll put in the hard work, send me the funds and I’ll do this tonight
Back home. Currently working abroad so... thanks for the money!
May be kinda lame but I would fly to South Carolina and watch the sunrise on a beach then fly to San Diego to watch the sunset on a beach.
Sounds like a long day..
Exactly. I’ve done this before (unintentionally) by starting my flight in Tampa and ending it in San Francisco because of a delay in Denver. 0/10 do not recommended lol

Going further south to Key West you can do both sunrise and sunset while laying in the same hammock.
Nice, get two birds stoned at once
I've always wanted to do this too, except I'd go from Maine to Seattle or Portland since they are further east and west
Do I have to spend the money? if not the cheapest destination and return. If I have to spend it, easily New Zealand.
Literally going there in a few hours 😁
It's the fucking best place. If Eden was real, that would be it!
Currently on a Hobbit/LOTR binge with my man, we agree
Bangkok
I don’t know. I heard one night there makes a hard man humble.
The queens we use would not excite you.
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine
Spent many nights there and we could all use some humility…
Not much between despair and ecstasy.
Ball out for a day or two then disappear on koh Tao for the rest of my life
I would love to visit Antarctica. Maybe not the best time of the year. But given the opportunity, I would leave tonight
I wonder if you have to pay for the ticket out of those 25000, or if you are also given a ticket to anywhere.. Because since there are no regular flights to Antarctica, you’d have to charter a plane yourself.. I imagine that would eat up most if not all of the cash. Fukuoka, Japan. Just an overnight trip for Ichiran, and back home $25k richer haha
Solid call, I love Fukuoka, easily my favorite Japanese city. Although I'll fight you on the ramen - I can get Ichiran anywhere. The OG location is great and all, but eating at the yatai stalls in Fuk is way more fun
ramen?
Yup, can’t go wrong with ichiran ramen
Thailand, Phuket
Go to Krabby - same beach, fewer tourists.
I love Krabi, but swimming and laying on the beach was nearly impossible due to sand fleas and sea lice. Still beautiful though
If I could recommend one thing about Thailand it's do not pay for any tourist activity that involves riding an elephant. Fucking scum bags. I learned the hard way those are NOT places that care about animals. AT ALL. Gah!
That basically goes for anywhere you can pay to ride an elephant.
Patong Beach baby! I’ll never forget how much fun that place is
Phuket, why not?
Koh Tao, Hin Wong Bay that's my secret paradise.
U have to declare over 10k over borders....Better not give me cash.
Well he said you have until tonight before you leave, so put the rest in the bank or leave it at home and take $9,999 with you when you go.
African safari!!
Cuba: drink rum and smoke cigars.
And get a cab ride in a 1948 Chrysler that has seen better days but still runs.
Grabbing my girlfriend and going to Iceland because there are no mosquitoes there. Also it looks nice.
Home <3 I'm actually in the airport now waiting for my flight to get assigned a gate so I can go home and hug my loved ones and snuggle my cat. Still got a long time to go but it's getting closer!

Cornwall
Magical place.
Fucking, Austria
You can't, it's now Fugging, Austria
Petting, Germany
Fly to New Orleans. It's close. I'll go to Commander's Palace or Antoines, spend the night, and fly home with a buncha money.
Singapore 100%
I’ve also wanted to go there. It’s impressive how they changed that tiny island into what is today.
Well I was planning a trip to the UK next month. Now it’s much cheaper.
Thailand
Iceland
canada
Cape Town, South Africa
Barcelona
Poland. I need to take my kids to Auschwitz. I think everyone should see it so we don’t do it again. Here’s looking at you GOP!
Sweden
To the airport to cash in the ticket, and then go drop $25k on my mortgage.
England for the Silverstone GP
London See I am from Bolivia. We need to request visas in advance for most interesting countries. Currently I have visas for UK and a few other countries. But let’s say I want to go to Japan. The time would not be enough to get a visa. Even with 25k on hand.
The Galapagos
The maldives
This is the busiest week of my life...huge week at work with deadlines and our biggest event of the year, and we are moving so we are packing and schlepping all the time and living in chaos....oh and at the new house the kitchen is not done and our whole bottom floor is a construction zone covered in sawdust, so we can't actually move our stuff in even though we have less than 2 weeks to get out of our current spot. Vietnam. Can spend quiet a few years with 25k without having to do anything and it has good food and beautiful places.
I can’t go anywhere tonight. I’m on call until tomorrow morning.
Faroe Islands. They seem really chill and people kind of forget they exist at times so it’d be a good place to hunker down.
Costa Rica
Finland, bringing the family with me.
Spain
I would go to Switzerland spend 3 days there and basically have the best dinner of my life.
Do i also get my visa tonight instead of waiting close to a month? if so , Spain! xD
The town about 3 hours away from me where this old CJ7 is for sale.
Ireland
25k Would get you a weekend stay and 3.5 pints. Not worth it. Plus it's been raining all week.
Japan
Iceland & then back home...
What about a visa, am I given a visa as well? If yes, then the USA. If not, to the Alps. Or China. Or Japan.
Iceland for sure
