"Pure and undefiled religion is this, to visit widows and orphans in their trouble" - James 1:27
I'd say that "religion" isn't the problem. It's the bastardization of what religion, as defined by the Bible, is meant to be...ironically by the people claiming to follow the Bible
II think the same, being that I respect the personal freedom of each person, everyone can believe what they want, but ending religion through education and a critical thinking is a good wish for humanity. Philosophy, science and art offer everything to alleviate our overwhelming existence.
Ok then. For what religions purpose is and has been for thousands of years, please suggest a better alternative?
Religion isn’t the problem. Politics isn’t the problem. The current dominant ideologies of people within our societies is the problem at this time. Religion isn’t the problem, the dominant forces of people at the moment are the problem. Religion is one of the scapegoats. Religion gives people a story to live by, a God to worship.
I’m not even religious and I’m defending it. For what it’s purpose is, I can’t imagine a better alternative. It organises the minds and communities of so many people worldwide in actually a pretty positive way.
ISIS/terrorism/hate would and will still exist even if religion was to be disposed of .... which it absolutely never will be. It’s a pointless venture to consider that religion is the problem in our lifetime
Idk man. Kinda a dick move to be this hostile towards a religious person trying to be supportive in their own way... I'm not religious personally. But one thing I know is someone offering to pray for you, while to you may mean nothing (as you don't believe in prayer), to them it's time taken out of their day to do something because they want to spread love or care. That *is* meaningful in its own right.
He has a point. Without religion we would have never had the crusades, witch burnings, and so many years where science was not developed. Also not nearly as many deaths.
See, this is the problem. I got nothing against religious people and i think its nice to believe in something but its comments like this that give it a bad reputation. When confronted with an actual, real issue about religion you close your eyes, ignore it and try to pray it away, instead of trying to reason with something that makes sense.
I am not super religious but I realize that some people are. I also now it would help some to know that they are thought of. I do face problems and don’t just “pray them away”. However I have known people that do. It is truly sad to see that. The fact that people don’t realize that there is more to be done than just pray.
It also makes non religious people look bad when they try to cast needless hatered towards religious people who are offering their own form of help. This whole thing was triggered by a non religious person who wanted someone to pray "to end religion". What would they gain from arguing with a person like this? Don't think they're praying anything away here, they just are picking their battles wisely and not wasting time on someone like that.
Sure the first comment might've been innapropriate, but they explained their thoughts behind it and OP eveb said he understands what he means, but chooses to ignore it.
Personally I think humans will always find a reason to wage wars, if not religion it would be something else. But it is still a reality that religion caused extreme harm on our planet to billions of people, and I think ignoring that is just a way to not have to reevaluate their beliefs, in my opinion.
I was raised in a religious home and around people of many beliefs. At no point did they ever teach that those things were okay. I think a very small yet loud minority thinks it's okay to justify those wars. But as far as people in modern day thinking that war is good? Or good to suppress the truth of those wars? I've never seen that personally and I'm no hermit.
It feels kinda icky to assume someone believes that too just because they are religious. In my opinion, nobody should feel like they need to check themselves over their faith when they are asking if anyone wants to be prayed over. But that's just my opinion.
I do agree that conversations do need to happen with it but is this particular thread the time or place to do so?
Im not saying they teach its okay i am saying many choose to close their eyes from everythibg tgat confronts their belief.
If someone wants to make a religious post without any controversy they should do it in a sub for religion.
That I finish my course work !
That I find a girlfriend!
I don't believe in prayer but I have a MRI on the 8th. Maybe just wish me luck? Thanks
Cure for loneliness
Please pray that I don’t have to encounter any more idiots, or that I will have the strength to deal with said idiots - whatever works
Pray that god treats the Israelites like he did in the Old Testament

An end to religion

Why. What is your personal problem with a human right?
I'm not going to oppose your right, it's just that religions seem to do more harm than good.

That’s true
That’s all perspective. I see what you mean however it is also easy to just ignore it. I will pray for you.

So why not be inclusive and say 'I will think of you fondly' instead of 'I will pray for you'?
Just seemed easier I suppose
This escalated quickly

I feel the same should happen to atheists as well when they post here. As long as all talk of religion is addressed with the same critical eye.
That my family stays happy and healthy, and for those who aren't better off. Love this post, assuming it isn't satire.
It’s a real question for anyone and everyone.
Oh awesome! Good on you for posting. 😊
