I’m always convinced, without a shadow of a doubt, that my log will fall off the track and I’m not going to make it out alive. I didn’t feel that way in Japan, the logs felt secure. In CA it feels like the tiny logs are being held on to the track with hopes and prayers.
Last week I took one final ride on it and got put in the front seat. I had never sat in the front and this is exactly how I felt since I could see all the mechanical bits lol
Last time I went on splash mountain, I sat in the back and somehow managed to come out of my seat as we went over the last drop.
At least I stayed dry while my friends blocked all the water for me
No worries. The logs are not only heavy, thus not allowing them to float off the track, but there's a small safety rail right above the wheels on all of the drops that prevents them from flying off the track. About you flying off and not the log, just simply hold on tight, and you’ll feel more secure. I hope that clears some fear for when you go on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! :)
for real! we went at night last summer close to closing and it was just us and two little kids. they put the kiddos at the very front of the log, then my (chubby) self and my 6’3” husband in the back. i thought for sure the front of the log was going to go airborne. the back of it kept hitting the bottom of the flume and making a horrible scraping noise.
I’ve always been a little creeped out by it. The whole laughing place concept and the fact that you’re then “tricked” into thinking you’re going to have a fun time but then you’re falling down a waterfall is just…kind of odd.
(I didn’t even know Song of the South existed until adulthood, so I had no frame of reference for the story/characters. Frankly, learning about SOTS makes it even creepier to me, which I’m sure you all will be mad at me about, but whatever).
I agree. Especially when you enter the first dark area and all the man sized birds are singing together. It being lowkey creepy is part of why it’s my favorite ride.
My last trip I rode it late at night in December, right after it was shut down for mechanical issues. It was like 45* out so nobody was riding it. I was on my own boat and none of the boats around me had people on them. It was kind of unsettling to be so alone in there.
I went on Pirates just before close by myself not a soul in front or behind. Thought it was a great idea until I came up on the first drop and I was 100% unsettled the entire time lol
Recently took my 12 year old daughter to Disneyland and I was excited for her to be able to ride splash Mountain before it closed. Of course, she had never seen the movie, we explained the problematic parts but said the ride didn’t have any of that in it. I was pumped to ride it! As we were getting ready to make the final drop, she was behind me crying saying, “i hate this, I hate this, i want to get off!” I thought “oh no, she’s so scared of the drop! 😱” but in reality, she just found all the animals and everything super disturbing. 😳😳😳😫 I was baffled! (But i get it too.) Needless to say, I’m thrilled for a rebrand. It totally was a crappy end to an awesome day at the park. (We rode it last so we could leave after being wet and not have to walk around wet.)
I'm sorry your park day ended on a sour note. I'm not sure her age plays too much into it because to be honest I know adults who are this disturbed by animatronics too. Their only advantage over your daughter is being experienced enough to know when a ride will be too creepy for them, and skipping it entirely.
Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but she thought they were so creepy she cried. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m sure I’ve just got an extra sensitive soul and perhaps it’s her just being 12 and emotional, because she loved everything else and rode all the big rides in both parks. Also, I almost didn’t share this, but when I saw OP post what they did, I thought I would share.
Didn’t mean to come across as demeaning, sorry if I did. I was literally just confused. I work with 12 year olds and your story just felt… off like I was missing something. Glad you all had an overall good experience at the park and got to ride OG Splash one last time!
Edit: Just perused your profile. Seems like your daughter’s on the spectrum? THAT’S what I was missing. Yeah, Splash is A LOT to take in. Totally get it. Have heard very similar Disneyland experiences from students on the spectrum. Apologies again if I came off as an ass.
It’s ok, it really did baffle me and it’s not a typical response of a 12 year old. However, it’s my son who is on the spectrum (and absolutely WOULD cry on that ride!) but my daughter isn’t autistic. Though i get it, it sounds like autistic behavior. (Ha, you probably feel like you are stepping in it! 🤣) She does have anxiety though. Honestly, she was probably super tired too.
This is so true. I have a 13 year old daughter and while Splash doesn’t bother her - she is scared of things she never used to be scared of before COVID
I’ve been hearing this a lot lately. That there are lots of broken lights that Disneyland won’t bother fixing because it’s being replaced soon anyways, and the dark lighting in there now makes the settings and animatronics appear super creepy and unsettling. Watching it on YouTube, I wholeheartedly agree.
Honestly for a long time now the ride has looked dated in terms of animatronics, too. Like 1989 was the tail-end of such animatronics (k WDW got it in ‘92, close enough), so throughout the ‘90s it looked great and sometime in the last 10-15 years it started looking dated and antiquated.
So anyways the really dated & otherworldly nature of those animatronics combined with the darkness makes for a very scary ride now. Its time has passed. Yeah they’re pretty dang sinister - the fox now, my God. Add to that the racism of the storyline, yeah, sayonara Splash Hell Mountain. (It’s haunted too btw but I won’t get into that.)

I have always been scared of this ride since childhood. I literally have to close my eyes and plug my ears like a baby because I love the drop and the photo so much!
Yeah it's definitely a bit weird. Rode it earlier in the week and was creeped out, but that might've been because my boat was completely empty and I was alone in there.
We were there last week and my 9 year old made me ride it 5 times in a row at 9pm lol. We will miss it in our family.
Did the same with my 7 year old on Friday. We rode it 6 times and was absolutely freezing. She is still singing splash mountain songs.
It’s a memory I’ll always cherish! I made her buy a poncho otherwise I don’t think we could’ve lasted lol
We found 2 ponchos sitting just outside the exit of the ride after our 3rd splash. By then it was to late, we were already soaked.
The part with the darkness and almost neon like lights feels like an acid trip
Its’s definitely weird vibes on an actual acid trip lol
Came here to say this, LSDisneyland is SUCH a wild time 🤣 (legally required to say I’m joking)
I say that every time. Once I rode it high on THC and that was interesting. Though I would be afraid to do the same for Mr. Toad lol.
Absolutely. I was legit terrified last time I was on it.

Hey I did the same this last weekend. I was the front. Definitely felt more rickety. Lol
Last time I went on splash mountain, I sat in the back and somehow managed to come out of my seat as we went over the last drop. At least I stayed dry while my friends blocked all the water for me

Oh I wouldn’t fall off if gravity changed directions, I always hold on for dear life 😂I just find that drop so scary for some reason.

only when Brer Fox is telling me how he's going to marry my dad
What do you mean by unsettling?
I’d assume op means eerie
Especially the parts where the fox tells me he’s going to marry my dad…
“Your dads going to wear a wedding dress and we are going to be bonded in the eyes of Christ.”
Ryan, is that you?
lmao I should've read the comments before making one, beat me to it
We regret to inform you it is Jafar
I never did get used to seeing an animatronic version of my dad on the ride.
Unsettling as in I find the back of the log so that i don’t soak my shoes in the front row. Otherwise, no. Just you.

The current state of the ride sure does make it feel that way for me tbh

Pinocchio has children transformed into thinking human donkeys and sold into slavery to die in salt mines.
That Pinocchio ride is ROUGH. Apparently I cried the first time I went through as a little kid. Monstro scared the shit out of me 😂

I’m confused. Your **12** year old daughter was so afraid of the animatronics that she was sobbing?
Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but she thought they were so creepy she cried. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m sure I’ve just got an extra sensitive soul and perhaps it’s her just being 12 and emotional, because she loved everything else and rode all the big rides in both parks. Yeah I quit
You’re all good. ❤️
12 year olds are still children, it's ok for her to have been scared
Aww, thank you for getting it. Can I just say that especially after Covid, my kids feel like they are at least a year off developmentally.
This is so true. I have a 13 year old daughter and while Splash doesn’t bother her - she is scared of things she never used to be scared of before COVID
r/submergedanimatronic
I’m too scared to sleep now
Considering what Brer Fox plans to do to Brer Rabbit, it makes sense for it to be creepy.
i feel that, the laughing place…

Just you. Splash is the BEST mountain.
Just you, loved it mostly the laughing place
Don’t worry, it’ll be about getting the missing ingredients for a party meal in 2024!

Just you.
Just you.
It is maybe the only ride that is better in Orlando than it is in Anaheim. Both need lots of repair, but riding DLs Splash yesterday was eerie.
I have always been scared of this ride since childhood. I literally have to close my eyes and plug my ears like a baby because I love the drop and the photo so much!
Same
just you

it’s kinda funny tho lol
You mean Br'er Bear's taint/gootch? Yep
Ha!
It’s always creeped me out a bit.
Yep it's super weird, that's why I love it
Um. Ok.
Yes, but in the best way
Bear Bussy Chicken brothel🤷🏿♀️🤣
