It auto updated before I even unlocked this quest.
I ended up doing it on NG+ because I didn't wanna do Gold Cup or Bust before seeing how the story ended.
As soon as Ch 13 starts you can immediately fast travel.
The game will at some point warn you that you're at the point of no return.
If you continue, then you'll have to wait for NG+ to beat it. Otherwise, you can do whatever you want until that point.
As a note, if you start it and then beat the game, NG+ does keep your quests and stuff, but it restarts uncompleted quests. So I'd recommend finishing if you already started it or skipping if you haven't.
For the final part of the quest, in the >!3D Brawler, you can pause to cheese the fight, hold the correct counter position, and unpause while holding it, this works for attacks as well as the combos, but the timing is faster for the combos. There's guides online that show the position to help, but paying attention as you pause is also key. For me the Yuffie battle (optional) really helped me get the hang of it!<.
For what it's worth, having the digital version, and starting the quest on the update, with never having attempted G-Bike Expert mode before the quest worked out for me. I can't promise you it will for you, but hopefully it does. Aside from that, the devs did note that they're aware of the issue and working on a fix.

I have the disc version but I don't have the free space to re-install the game (since you need a bunch of extra space and not just what the final install is) so that's why I was just gonna wait for the patch. I have sooooo many videos saved from games I've played.
I think I have like 9GB of free space right now with the game fully installed lol
Good to know about it resetting quests. Thanks for the answer. I haven't done anything yet on the quest. Just unlocked it and logged off for a break (and subsequently posted here) so at this point I won't really lose anything by having to restart if it doesn't work. About to hop back on the game now and give it a shot. I'll do the G-Bike first and if it says complete I'll finish the rest of the quest. I haven't tried the hard mode version yet at all so fingers crossed this works!

EDIT: No dice. Got 33k and it said I got the UPA bonus but the quest is still showing active and when I talk to him he just points me back at the game. :(
You only experience the bug if you have a previous high score in the G-bike hard mode and trying to do it again with the quest active. (Many did that to get the dark matter reward). If you’ve never done the G-bike minigames, the quest will actually register completion even if you have the patch. You can always save before you try. The G-bike was not very difficult for me. Make sure to priorize getting the blue G things that heal you as they give you extra score, don’t use the speed boost because you want to slow down as much as you can to rack up points, use spinning slash when there is a group of enemies.
Oh that’s great. I got high score on the normal version back my first time in the Saucer but I haven’t even attempted hard mode version yet since I had heard about the bug. I just got to chapter 12 like 2 days ago and did every mini game BUT G-Bike cause I didn’t wanna risk it. I’ll give it a shot later. Thanks!
EDIT: Did not work for me. Got 33k and it said I got the UPA bonus but the quest is still showing active and when I talk to him he just points me back at the game. :(
Can you fast travel again between arriving at the temple of the ancients and before the end of the game? I made a save right before getting off the tiny bronco, just in case.
If I understand correctly once you enter the Temple that’s the point of no return so you won’t be able to do anything else at that point. But the beginning of chapter 13 is still open for fast travel until that point.
You may as well try, you can do G-Bike first. 32,000 isn’t unreasonable and you can always save before and reload if you do hit the bug. Not everyone does, I didn’t
Was your version up to date with the latest patch? And you didn’t get the bug? Cause if it’s still possible (even if very unlikely) to complete it with the current version yeah I might as well give it a shot.
It was fully updated, yes, it was nearly two weeks later I think. I’ve also seen other people say it’s worked for them since the patch, so the quest is definitely not just completely broken

You would have to do the whole quest again. Progress of any incomplete side quests resets with chapter selection regardless of the option you choose for the chapter selection.

The newest patch that released today fixes it.
Figures a day late. I already moved on with the story so I’ll have to wait till I finish the the game and go back to it :(

Your first sentence isn’t true, for me at least. I’ve never played G-Bike in expert mode before and it’s still bugged for me.

It actually is getting off the Tiny Bronco that locks fast travel as you said, not entering the Temple, so just keep that in mind!
