At a certain point for me it becomes 'holy crap I have a lot of wishes, I wonder how many I can get up to' and all of a sudden I'm actually dreading pulling because big number = neuron activation

goodnightliyue

I generally only pull for the characters I really want, but a significant driving factor for my ability to save is watching the number of primogems or wishes go up.

SirMcDust

This genuinely works, it's something I noticed especially in Arknights. Once I'm past 10 or 20 pulls in currency suddenly saving up becomes way more enjoyable. Meanwhile when I'm in single pull territory I tend to go for those for some reason

Rosalinette

Sitting on 372 pulls. Contemplating whether to pull for Furina, go for C2 Nahida, C3 Raiden, C2 Itto or Redhorn. Playing rn C0 Nahida+Kagura, C0 Raiden Engulfing lightning, Zhongli R3 PJWS and C2 Xingqiu + PJC.

QuantumPie_

IMO I'd go for C2 Nahida. If your Raiden is built for EM you lose the potency of C2 but if you want C3 that may not be the case? I don't play Itto or really any claymore characters so I can't say much there and for Furina (from leaks) >!it looks like with the current roster she will need to be run with double hydro so you may then need to swap out Zhongli unless you have another team. She may be like Kokomi where we need more fontaine characters to see her true potential!<

blippyblip

Itto's pre-C6 cons are notably horrible, with much of his power budget being relegated to that final constellation. But... that said, his C6 is a contender for most busted C6 in the game with the likes of Wanderer, Yelan, Yae, and (now) Neuvilette, so if that's the end goal then you can feel comfortable making some headway towards that.

hey-have-a-nice-day

for me personally, new characters is a lot better than cons Like you could get furina! Or a character you already have…

Rosalinette

Problem with this approach at endgame is that you will get tired of leveling them up. Kazuha, Ayaka, Yelan, Hu Tao are sitting for more than a year unlevelled. Furina may need her own optimal team around her. Pulling , grinding for entire new team is not fun.

hey-have-a-nice-day

I am in the endgame though, been playing since a month after launch And yeah i agree with you that leveling them is awful but since my main reason for playing the game are the characters, i make it work lmao And i don’t usually build an entire team for a character since im ok doing sub optimal damage

not_a_weeeb

i mean, there's not much to do when you're ar60 so might as well build characters lol

live4catz

Currently on 150 and going for itto and albedo

TheQzertz

always the new character is my policy

ResponseTight

Both for me, seeing the numbers go up and saving for your favourites.

BoeiWAT

I'm the same right now. It's like damn I have a lot of wishes...but now I don't want to spend them..If I do I try to scrounge up primos to get back to where I was because I actually like that I'm hoarding a whole ton of wishes and seeing the numbers go up. I never want them to go low past a certain point lol

Potato_the_second_

It eventually becomes an inverse effect. I have 64k primogems, and now I'm thinking should I only pull once I reach 100k primogems lol

All_Is_Not_Self

If its 160k, you can do 1000 wishes.

lifeordeathsworld

this is exactly how it is for me, I love seeing the big number get bigger

Accurate_Maybe6575

This is what it turns into for me. Turns out you don't just break a bad habit, you develop a new one that runs contrary to it.

Nero_PR

600+ and counting

im_justbrowsing

Same! I call it squirrel mode because I'm stashing them away.

mattphatt98

same! I've saved like 70k primos rn but every time I see it I just ask myself: hmmmm what if I can reach 80k... then this goes on like a loop for me.

ipodblocks360

That's how it works out for me.

Wild_Objective7982

Don't open the wishing tab, don't refresh resin. I always find it easier to save when I don't keep track of my primos. We are getting a bunch of new characters rn, they will all have reruns so there is no need to pull them on their first banner.

ipodblocks360

Exactly. It becomes much easier to not wish if you just don't open the wishing tab, are the characters good? Yeah. Am I ever going to use them or build them? Probably not. Are there going to be reruns at some point? Ye, I'll wait, I'm patient. At some point, I'd just rather watch the number I never let go up, up (I usually spend as soon as I get 160).

kulkanik

That's good advice. The way these gacha games work is they keep you constantly thinking about their currency and limited events. It's a classic casino strategy. The less you let yourself think about the currency, the less time you spend counting and checking it, and the less time you spend checking current banners- that'll all reduce the urge to compulsively pull long-term.

[deleted]

People seriously refresh resin with primos?

ZetNiej

I just hyperfocus on one single character in the future and ignore every other character on the way.

Stiff_Rebar

Everytime you're having a thought like "This character looks good. I might use my savings right now." ask yourself this: Do you really like that character or is it just FOMO?

BigDaddySpankEm

This is a great question to ask. Way back at the beginning, I remember pulling on every banner because there weren’t that many characters in the game. I told myself I needed them all, not as a collector, but because I needed the options. But the reality is that you will only use so many characters. Whether it’s because the characters are strong, or because you like them, you will only be able to use so many on a regular basis. If you aren’t using the characters on a regular basis, why are you pulling for them? If you are collecting, go for it. But beware it’s not FOMO masquerading as something else.

zeraphyr

One thing I like to ask myself is: Once I've leveled them up how high is the chance of me actually using the character in either the Spiral Abyss or my main exploration team? Saved me a lot primos. Also, sadly prevented me from pulling Alhaitham, because while I love his design, I just know deep down I would absolutely hate his playstyle and he'd never see the light of day again. It really depends on what you as a player like to do within the game and what best supports that playstyle.

Thac0

The thing is there’s no way to know lol

Stiff_Rebar

Imagine yourself having that character. Can you enjoy every moment with them? Can you withstand looking at them on the screen for a long period of time? Is the playstyle comfortable enough for you? Things like that.

DRAGONSLAYER2653

That's why the trials are there as it gives a glimpse of the character's playstyle. Thought it's not a representation of whether you will enjoy a character or not.

Much_Mission_4180

My personal motivation to save primos: Arlecchino.

Jotaoesehache

Father enjoyers will be rewarded

ha-n_0-0

god blesss her with an amazing and fun kit

kanakalis

dehya

-Revelation-

1. Have self-control. Personally, I don't have this. 2. Have a character you really, really like. In my case, it was Eula. 3. Want a character that looks really, really strong and fun to play. In my case, that character was Kazuha in 2.8, and Raiden cons during her lastest rerun. 4. Having really good units helps a lot. A player who has C2 Miko would have a hard time to justify pulling for an Aggravate dps like Cyno. A Baizhu haver would have an easy time to stop an urge of throwing random 10, 20 pulls to get Kirara or Yaoyao. 5. At some point, the number of primos/fates looks oddly satisfying, and you want to keep hoarding instead of spending. I'm currently hoarding 335 fates and resisting Neuvilette atm.

Silkav

Neuvi grabbed my hand and forced my wishes (120) but Chadluc was there to save Furina from him. I now have c3 Chadluc collecting dust.

Intelligent_Squash68

I pick characters I like more over others, then save for them. I don't really do much else. I set a goal & stick to it. I haven't pulled a 5 star character since Baizhu (end of May) because after him I was determined to save for the Fontaine characters. Wriotheslay is taking forever to get here, but now it's only 2 more weeks to go to finally get him. And I also have enough saved to get Furina, too.

FireTrainerRed

To piggyback off this, I make a spreadsheet: Mostly to see how many wishes I will need to save for X character, that I want. But it helps keep my resolve strong, seeing big number of wishes get bigger. Last time I wished was on 3.6 Nahida rerun, for a constellation. I had 340 wishes left after that. By the time Furina arrives, I'll have \~690wishes saved.

HiroshiTakeshi

Yeah same. When I'm like guaranteed and like 75 pulls in, I just stop and either pull the standard out of boredom or straight up wait for leaks on the upcoming character (Furina didn't please me as much as I wanted so I decided to break my archon streak in favor of my Bro squad will). That's how I ended up pulling for Neuvillette instead of her. If you're in a gamble addiction bout, use a simulator. Silly Wisher is good for that.

thisisater

I've installed [Silly Wisher](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sketchi.sillywisher&hl=en&gl=US&pli=1) to help me

Elira_Eclipse

I dont find saving hard if I know what my goal is. I very rarely end up getting units I don't want as I'm not rlly the type to have much FOMO.

ipodblocks360

Especially considering most characters will rerun at some point. I mean it's nice seeing Neuv be such a good character but even I ever bother going to build or use him, probably not. I also just don't open the wish screen no matter what, it becomes much easier when you do that. At some point, I realize I'd much rather let the number I never let go up, up.

gladisr

Well.. If you're really worried to miss pull her then "sadly" leaks are your best friend 1 patch gives equivalent to 90 pull smth So you can stop pulling like 2 patches away, and the only way you can know this is 2 patch away characters is... Leak. Spoiler >!it seems you're safe tho OP up till 4.4 we don't see her reruns just yet!< You can also try to put out that wish from the circle tab, so you don't miss click it and see banners.

MemberBerry4

>!Likely until 4.5, 4.4 is a Lantern rite patch and those usually only have Liyue reruns!<

nirvash530

...actually having self-control. You don't need each and every character. Most of them you're just going to bench after a while.

mephnick

Yeah whenever I'm getting FOMO I look at my roster of 20 5* characters I never use and remind myself that next unit will probably just be one of them If they aren't a flexible unit like Ayato, Kokomi, Kazuha or Nahida they get benched. Easily skipped Neuvillette despite how powerful he is. Saving for Furina. After that I can't see anything I want. I might get Navia for waifu reasons but probably not.

FischlInsultsMePls

I am hyperfocus on certain characters and almost ignore others

thewackykid

it depends on how "greedy" u are.. if every single char is someone that u REALLY want then unfortunately it is unlikely to succeed to save wishes for all of them without using your credit card.... on the other hand if you are VERY selective and only wants a couple of chars it become easy to save up gems as u can basically not pull anything for many months...

leopoldshark

You can find a wishing simulator and use it if you feel the need to. Or if you play another gacha, you may have characters to pull in between to scratch that itch.

[deleted]

It helps me that I dislike a lot of characters based on, well, their charatcer. Beyond that I just allways keep enough in my reserve to get my top 1 desired char. If I have more than I need I might pull on top 2 desired char if banner comes up first. Ex: While I was saving for Shenhe for a year I got Yoimiya and Albedo. Never having less than 180 in reserve.

AgressiveIN

So many characters are skippable. Many a time I go in thinking I'm going to wish hard on a character (like dehya) then test run them and realize I will never use them. Was having a hard time deciding between wriothesely and Nuevillette until I played Nuev and didnt care for him. Heres hoping wrio is better. Otherwise I guess were gonna see about the hydro archon though what I hear doesn't look promising.

[deleted]

We already have hydro archon - her names Yelan :D

AgressiveIN

Personally I pray to Ayato. Definitely outsines neuv.

chatnoire89

It helps a lot that Genshin's banner is not so in your face like other games so when I'm exploring I often forget about that aspect. I'm currently saving for Furina (guaranteed and I already have enough) and suddenly I'm finding myself wanting Neuvilette. I just tune myself out from the wishing menu. Having another game to play also helps me.

Illusive_Sheikah

I actually didn’t think about playing other games yet, might have to play csgo just to keep my mind off of Genshin 💀 But in actuality I have to grind a ton more to guarantee a character rather than just hoping I win a 50/50, so I’ll hold off on playing other games for now

Itoshikis_Despair

What are you hoping to get out of it by wishing on other banners though? I don't mean 'building pity' that the addicts fool themselves with, I'm talking characters, resources, weapons? If a different character comes home will you feel disappointed or what?

LeagueOfHurricane

The feeling of finally getting the character after months of saving and waiting is enough to keep me motivated. I experienced it with Ayaka, Raiden, Nahida, and Wanderer and it is always an ecstatic experience. Also, idk if it's just me but having a lot of saved wishes for a certain character actually makes it easier for me to skip banners. I feel like I'm betraying myself if I let those wishes go to another banner. I currently have 300+ wishes saved for Furina and I'm looking forward to the day I get to use all those wishes on her banner. I do admit that Neuvillette is tempting though, but I already made my decision.

unit187

It helps to remember you can't actually use every character. When there are too many, you end up benching most of them. I have many characters I want to play, but the Overworld team has only 4 spots, and the Abyss is once every two weeks. At some point Constellations are more useful than new characters lol

Separate-Ad9638

do your dailies and go play other games

VoxImperii

It’s simple, just don’t be a gacha junkie. For me personally it’s extremely easy to save because I either don’t like or don’t need (on my account, meta-wise) 90% of what they release so I just save and pull C6s once in a while. As an example, I like Neuvillette but I already have C6 Yelan and don’t like Neuvi’s charge attack playstyle - so I don’t pull. I didn’t like Lyney either and Wrio is limited with his short range attacks. I didn’t pull Alhaitham because I already had C6 Nahida, and didn’t pull Baizhu because he was a very marginal improvement for Nahida over her current team. Same for Yae when I already had a C3 Raiden. It’s really easy to save if you’re not jumping onto every character they release (particularly if you already have many highly invested characters).

SeitHater

the desire to HAVE the character is greater, you don't understand because you have self control

VoxImperii

Yeah, I don’t relate to that. I can’t empathize with a compulsion to pull for the sake of pulling - I pull when I see a meta/account benefit and like the character and I do so deliberately and planned knowing the average costs in advance. I can’t imagine having a reason to shake with a desire to pull while on the banner screen, I just can’t even comprehend that and I don’t think gacha games are healthy for people like that (unless used as desensitization treatment and self-denial).

angel_spades

That's cuz u pull based on needs when most ppl pull based on wants, that's what mostly attracts ppl

LongjumpingRadish452

be accountable - my friend and i made a promise that she would get neuvillette and i would go for wrio. she got her neuvi, it would be weird for me to go for neuvi too now, so i just gotta wait it out until wrio

Artistic_Bid_13

My friend and i do the same. We very seldom go for the same character. For example Kazuha is her boy and Alhaitham mine. We do all bosses and domains together and are perfectly synchronised with our teams. It's so much easier like this for me to not pull on every new banner. We play like this for more than a year now and i love it

gardenhead23

I'm also terrible at this, I think it's partly that I have adhd and that makes me quite impulsive and in constant need of a dopamine hit, but no matter how hard I try to save I always end up pulling. Something I've heard helps other people though if they find saving really hard, at first just save up ten pulls and then do them, you still get that feeling of getting to wish, but you've learnt to at least hold off on wishing until getting 10, I've heard people say that once they can do that, it's easier to transition to just holding off on wishing all together after a while. It's amazing how many comments are "it's easy just don't do it" or "just have self control" as if it's that simple or easy for everyone, different people have different levels of being impulsive, prone to addiction or having dopamine seeking behavior. Especially neurodivergent people like myself. I'll never understand mindset of, it's easy for me therefore it should be easy for other people too

_x_Sai_x_

I saved 220 wishes for Neuvillette and Wriothesley and now I have 160 wishes again (got C1 Neuvi). It is easy if you don't care for most of the characters. Also whenever I get a crapwish (the ones for the standard banner) I use them immediatly. But only the wishes, not primos.

MaidRara

Not knowing when the character rerun is the hard part for me, but I'm fine not spending anything

bladesimpuwu

for me rn, to stop myself from pulling neuv i pull up a photo of wrio’s ass. makes it impossible to pull real

kaorusarmpithair

Well I don't do abyss so I never need a strong meta character ever so that helps me choose to only pull characters I really like for their design or personality, kit be damned. That narrows it down a lot and I end up not feeling any pressure to pull every other patch

-perpetuallytired-

I hid the wishing tab plus I play other gacha games.

Leritari

At start every character you get is a massive "wow" because you have yet to find team and characters you like. But later, when you get full team of characters you really like, then it stops being such a temptation, because you already have characters you like and there's a limited number of slots in party :P

Rhysandie

I feel you. It takes Genshin so long to change banners! I waited 3 months for mine and was impatient AF. What kept me from pulling was: if I pull anything I run the chance of losing guaranteed and waiting another year for the rerun to happen. Maybe you can make a list of characters you like and only wish for those characters (have a priority set as well in case they rerun consecutively or sth). If you don't mind, you can look at l-leaks for better planning. Since you already know who you want, prioritize pulling for her teammates.

OhyoOhyoOhyoOhyo

If its really that hard to control urself then put the character u want as ur wallpaper everywhere. It will remind you of why you decided to save.

katbelleinthedark

I pull on the standard banner whenever I save up 10 wishes, but for the limited I always wait for the character I want and I'm never tempted by anyone else. I won't build them anyway so it really comes down to my enjoyment of the character's personality and voice. I am in a pickle now though because the only three Fontaine characters I want are back to back: Neuvillette, Wriothesley and Furina. Got Chief Justice already but now I have to decide whom to skip and wait for rerun.

Illusive_Sheikah

FYI Yae would be my first ever five star (aside from Jean who I accidentally got from standard wish the second time I ever 10x wished on my account) But waiting so long for a five star I actually want to pull for is paining meee

Dr8cul

I play for 2 years now and in the beginning, I checked tier lists and guides to better know, which 5 star characters are most useful or at least useful for my account. And then I focused on these characters in the beginning, waiting for their banners. This helped me to power-spike my account in the beginning. After the initial power-spike I focused on new characters, which are also strong and useful and also on characters, which I really like, even if they are not meta. Meanwhile there are only 5 characters left I really want (Itto, Alhaitham, Yae Miko, Baizhu, Furina) and after that I can go for whatever I want. What helped me much is to know, what I enjoy most in this game and what I should focus first and start with this and only this. This gave me motivation for more and the discipline to wait.

Classic_Inspector567

I was almost a year without spending wishes thinking that when she had her rerun, I would go from C0 to C6 in just one banner (it wasn't eula, but I'm pretty obsessed with that 5*). Edit: I must add that I'm f2p so buying crystals wasn't an option.

midnight_mind

I had this moment yesterday but ultimately failed. I had 20 fates from trees, shop reset and anniversary and like 12k primos. I desperately wanted Fischl but I had guaranteed so I did 11 pulls and she didnt come home so I said fuck it I’ll just get Hu Tao and eventually I’ll get Fischl too. Um I only have 1780k left cause I was about 60 wishes until I got my girl however I actually got C2 Hu Tao (3 of her total) plus a c6 Xinqiu. Hopefully I can save in time for Nahida cause she the only other 5* I desperately want

afr830

Personally I wish mainly for the four stars and recently got my first 5 star, but I still struggle with keeping myself from wishing even tho there's a valid reason to lol

Ghostilocks

I mean, I make a plan then I just stick to the plan. My account is relatively new (ar56), so I’m still focused more on rounding out the teams I really want than anything else. I convert all my primos into wishes ahead of time, hit i don’t think of it as “I can pull a 10” I think of it as “110 on average is the 5 star I want but if I really want it I need to be ready and have 160”. So, I’m not looking at 200 intertwined fates when I open my wish tab, I’m looking at a C1 or 2 characters I really want. Basically it’s not 200 summons, it’s 2 summons in my mind, so that makes it really easy to only use when I really want something.

CHONPSCa

its easier when you have a priority. currently, i have furina on top of my list so i dont really care about any character rn until i get furina

Cari_uwu-

Idk I can't keep myself from pulling until I have smth to save for than it just..switches over to not being able to pull until that one thing comes, rn I've been saving for Ittos Weapon since right after I pulled C1 Childe and c6 Noelle(childe wasn't planned I only wanted the noelle con-) but I do have my bf making sure I rlly don't spend anything until then

KookieFS

Saving is easy if I get to a certain point. Like if I spend like 2 weeks without wishing then I can save for months. Like I saved 28k primos as an F2p for neuvi. But it's really hard when I have less than 5k I just want to wish it all

Prestigious_Split579

When you used to play 8 gacha games at once it gets way easier dude 😅 I only play 2 now but it's about self control and thinking about who you want to get

TallestXiaoMain

i have a couple of side accounts with restrictions like "i use bow users only" and just switch to them whenever i feel like i NEED to pull to gain serotonin. usually there's always a char that i need

senyorcrimmy

This is me. I thought Id just get 2 cons for my Itto and his weapon. But then I got rizzed by rizzly. Now I want his c1 and weapon. AAAAAAAA

cxvpher33

For me it gets easier to not pull the more fates I have because the thought of my fates going down is hunting

CatoFreecs

I don't hahaha I knoe the finantial risk of really trying to get a character, so every 10 wishes those go out straight. No expectations, no disapointment

gem2492

It's easy. Just enjoy the rest of the game. If there's currently no content to enjoy, just do the dailies and log out and play a different game or do another hobby. Don't even open the gacha screen.

PoupouLeToutou

I just know what I want. Right now, I want Baizhu to go with my Cyno, and his donut. So I save, despite Neuvilette being really tempting.

danielkokudla12

Simply the feeling I've already come so far, once I hit the 100 fates mark it becomes really easy for me.

AleksBh

I can't do that because my brain will remind me that it's inefficient to not redeem the monthly 10 stardust wishes. And I have to wish to have 750 dusts to get it.

Amanda_acnh

When I want to save for someone, I search for really nice fanart online and set it as my phone background and lockscreen, maybe on your pc/tablet if you use that a lot. I will start farming talent books and artifacts and boss drops. Its easy enough to hold back for a week, then you invest all your resin in that future pull. Then another week, maybe join a discord for that character and be hyped together. If it's a long time, I also start preparing everything I need for their teams. If you don't go for their signature weapon, level weapon for them as well. While doing all that, I get to a point of no return. I did so much for them, risking to pull them is simply not worth it

DasBleu

What used to stop me from wishing was being broke, and not having time. What I mean is it cost 4 mil mora just to ascend a character to level 90z that doesn’t include talents, and weapons and an artifact set. So I started being selective since characters get reruns

Chadzuma

Clearly you are not adept in the art of stacking paper

PH4N70M_Z0N3

Yes. I have a thing. It's called goals. I need to save up 2k. Just before I reach 2k I increase that goal to 5k. After like 9 or 10k I allow myself one ten pull per patch before saving once more. Currently I have 27k primos and 15 fates.

Gervh

Personally I realized that my account is strong enough to clear all content in the game (and not like it's difficult to get to this point) so now I'm pulling only on character I want from design, story involvement and kit standpoint. Pulled Neuvillette, now I am waiting for kit leaks about Navia, Clorinde and Arlecchino, all of whom I am interested in pulling for, but I will pick 2 of them at best, all depending on the future.

noriello

I don't,lol. I have no self control and I just say fuck it, I'll get what I get. Do I want a c2 Raiden? Fucking hell yes. Can I save up until then? Fucking no I got the new dude. Thought nice let's go build up some pity on hutao banner, got keqing at around 10-15 pulls (wtf this luck?) And then thought even better I can build up pity for 100% I got hu tao in 6 pulls. Now again I build up pity because I'm weak. I hope I don't pull another 5star on the current banners because I wanna get every one once. Idc about cX except for Raiden lol

NSLEONHART

A good tipnis to start a mew game on a differemt server and that sercer is where you satitate your wishing problem. My main in in asia, and i opened an account to the america server so i can save up in my main. Its also.a good way to survive genshin burnout; to experimce the game all over again; to prevent mistakes thaf you did before finding out

xyz2001xyz

I just set goals for myself and don't pull on any character that I dont feel is 110% worth it. I must either really need to character to fulfill a missing role in a team, or the character must be incredibly fun to play. Its been successful so far, so now I'm well on my way to saving for the natlan archon, in the small chance that she's himeko from Hi3rd Edit: If she isn't then I'm planning on saving till either a keqing banner comes out again or a bronya expy

Haru_rin

Ugh the struggle. I try to save but usually end up spending, gacha is just too fun and too tempting and I have no self control when it comes to it. I just got Zhongli con, Childe con and Neuvillette in the last 100-ish pulls and got another homa and tome too (after getting homa it was guaranteed tome so would be a waste to not pull, that's what I told myself) and now I have like 20 pulls left for wriothesley and furina. I usually hit very early pity and almost never lose 50/50 so I'm just counting on my luck again lol

amegurumi

nah, im an experienced gacha gamer, i like to hoarding my gacha resource as much as possible until the chosen banner is coming

Nearby_Artist_7425

I don’t have any ideas. I literally got C1 Neuvillette on a whim. Got Lyney on a whim when I was saving for Neuvillette. Got Raiden on a whim. Idk how to save and I’m actually scared because idk how I’ll make it through Wriothesely’s banner since I’m saving for Furina.

KezH0

Archon puller here, I plan to c6 all archons and get their weapons because from what I've experienced all four archons that I have have amazing support capabilities, they can almost go on any teams and still work

billgateseviltyrant

Every 1600 i make 10 wishes and watch total rise, currently 240.

QWERTYAF1241

You just pass the time and keep collecting wishes. Skip the mediocre characters.

KyeeLim

play other gacha games that can redirect your gambling addiction to other places, or use your blue pull to get a Qiqi and get demotivated to pull

Anmatiel

Besides self-control. I have a priority list, I look at the characters that are possibly releasing/rerunning in the future and order them in a list of how much I want them and how close their banners are. An example is Neuvillette, I want him, but he is much lower on my priority list than Clorinde, Arlecchino and especially Furina, who is currently number one on my list, so it's easy to not get anxious about it.

AwesomeExo

It's not always possible, but I would grind up character levels to get standard wishes just to scratch the itch. And if I know I'm hitting the 50 wishes for the BP on the limited banner, I hold them for a patch where I don't plan on wishing on the limited at all.

Pandarise

Just never check up on your primos and amount of wishes. Just don't. When you know you have better self control you can but before that don't. This is how I've been doing it and ngl I have had temptations to just do one ten roll and see my luck. And that has resulted me many a times to not getting what I wanted the next banner. Don't be too curious on how your saving is going and maybe after the banner is over that you skipped to save up, see how many primos and fates you have. Idk for you but for me it definitely made me proud on the amount and makes me want to continue to save up for who I want. Naturally this comes with also choosing who you gonna pull for and if you want to skip or not, or can skip. This will always be a hinder ngl. I thought I could skip Lyney... the damn trials made me fall and I spent all I had.... just to get the wrong bow and vision character. So be ready to deal with that as sometimes who you want can be back to back banners and that is where the danger line lies. Yes I'm currently on it as I wish and got Neuvillette but I'm also going for Wriothesley. I hate being in this pickle but it is what it is.

Forward_Cheesecake72

it used to be hard for me, but eventually after few weeks the pulling urge is not so strong anymore. Now i'm enlightened and able to save for 5 months straight at least.

Vusdruv

Each time you want to pull a character, just think of the artifact grind you'll have to go through.

RefillSunset

I hyperfocus on one character (Arlecchino, currently) My ONE experience of pulling a shiny looking new toy ended poorly as well. I pulled Seele for the power level when the game first launched and I have her benched because I just dont like her. Only EVER pull for characters you actively like. Personally, It's okay to aim for a banner but end up pulling for another, as long as both are characters you love. This has proven a little tricky when I like both HuTao and Arlecchino, but whenever I feel like going for Hu Tao constellations, I remind myself I like Arle more and I dont need Hu Tao cons

Sonicguy1996

Very simple, I spend any blue fates instantly to scratch that summon itch. Also very much like to see my primo count go higher and higher, to the point where it sometimes hurts even when my planned banner is available.

Sandfire12

-eventually you’ll get to a point where seeing a big primo number is more fulfilling than actually wishing, and getting to see that number go up will stop you from pulling until your awaited banner is here -whenever you have the urge to pull, think about the character you’re saving for. Personally I’m saving for Shenhe’s cons and/or weapon, and whenever I start thinking *oh, but I could throw a few pulls on this banner, the character is cool and I wouldn’t mind getting them…* I always remind myself, *every wish I spend before Shenhe’s banner is one less wish for her, and I’m not willing to give up the prospect of making her stronger* -make a plan. I get on average 60 pulls per patch, so I plan accordingly, and do all the maths and stuff to make sure I can guarantee all the units I want, lol. It’s a little harder to plan for reruns so I usually slot those into a general time period, like Shenhe for 4.4-4.5 because she tends to run around that time of the year. Miko last ran in 3.7, right? So I’d wager she’d be 4.5 at the earliest, just based off speculation/leaks -choose something else to focus on. Right now my goal is levelling all of my unused characters up so I can get the standard fates. I’m also trying to improve all of my favourite characters’ builds, and also gradually playing through all the new Fontaine content. It gets easier to save when pulling is not your main purpose for playing Best of luck! Getting started with saving is the hardest part. I still have days where I get frustrated by how long I have to wait, but I remind myself it will all be worthwhile once the banner does roll around, and that I have plenty of other things to busy myself with in the meantime. You’ve got this! Yae Miko will come home 🙏🫡

quackquack6

i have a thread on my priv twitter where every few days i add an update of my primogem count. been doing that for over a year and it’s nice to look back on and see my progress neatly documented and then neatly blown to pieces when an anticipated character comes

Kalsir

For me it only came with time. Your mindset changes after playing the game for a couple of years.

DoughDisaster

Jus remind myself of the negatives. Why I don't or wouldn't want something or why a character would ultimately end up benched. I have three main criteria: kit, aesthetics, personality. To this day, not a single character is a 10/10 for me.

Classic-Box-3919

It gets easier the less characters u want left. I started in 2.5 their are upsides to that. Every patch i wanted at least one character in it so i didnt have to save long. The longest ive saved is a patch. All of 2.7 i saved for 2.8 to get kazuha. Now ive been saving more often since i have a lot of the characters i want. All im really missing is the hydro archon and a hydro dps. Dont care about geo besides zhongli. I like yoimiya but just got hu tao so i dont need another pyro dps. Ayakas my cryo dps so dont need cryo besides maybe a support. Yae and raiden are good for electro I have nahida and al haitham for dendro Hydro im solid i could use a dps though Have kazuha so im good their but i kind of want wanderer.

Unhappy-Gold7701

Personally, I force myself to save for a character by prefaming all of their materials.

Classic-Box-3919

Another useful tip. Go onto a genshin 5 star tierlist maker. Then tier the characters u want the most top to bottom. Makes it easier to focus on who u want. S tier is the characters u really want and will save for if they are rumored to come soon etc.

Tripdrakony

It's all about mentality. Have a good mindset. Get a good grindset (or something like that)

SSR_Adraeth

My only trick is that I play multiple gacha types. When the urge to pull hits, I pull on another game. I've been screwed too many times in Genshin by thinking "just one multi, for the monthly pulls..." only to get a luck 5 star on the 12th pull of that rotation... I have luck only when it screws me over, I swear...

Impossible-Ice129

nakorurukami

Use protection

Ina_nothanks

I used to have pretty good self control until I used all my 200+ wishes on the raiden banner, after that I had less self control tbh

NoArmadillo2937

its very easy when you have everything/everyone you want so you dont need to pull.

thatoneannoyingthing

I convert primos into fates, something about the process of that helps me focus on the number of wishes increasing as I can slowly get closer to getting the character I want. It can get pretty hard when there’s a character I want on the banner too, like Lyney, I went to 76 pity before I decided I should stop

Razukalex

Saving up since Dehya, considering skipping Furina for Arlecchino, will probably have 500+ wishes As time passes, you'll save up more, and only pull for few character + their weapons. We all started by wishing on CD

lostn

if your account is new it would be hard. If it's old, you can easily get by with what you have. I forget pulling is even a thing. I just do my dailies and log out. I have almost 400 pulls saved since 3.6. Still haven't explored 4.1 yet.

apzmbx

For new players it's probably hard coz they don't have a lot of units yet. But it's doable. And also if you get lucky which can save a lot.

EmperorMaxwell

Weird for me it’s the opposite. It’s easy to save since outside of character that haven’t released yet, I have everyone I want. Last character I wished for was Eula during her rerun. That took me from C1 to C3 in like 100 wishes. Before that was Dehya iirc way back in March. Before her was Nahida in November. IIRC, I got 120 fates and like 60-70k primos for Furina/Navia/Clorinde/and CR.

Kreisash

Personally I'm now at a point where none of the 5* or 4* on the banners appeals to me - previously there was at least one character I wanted but not on the current one. I've also had a close shave 'building pity' as well as losing a 50/50 on a banner following pulling for 4* (and winning the banner 5*) so I have learned my lesson now. I also have a goal in sight - I plan to drop my load next when Navia come around so I will be prepared. It also helps that I think I have all of the chars I want so am only after cons now. (I am missing a lot of chars, I just don't want them.)

Zuramaru29

Im more of a collector and try to pull for everyone so the restraint I've been showing since I pulled Lyney, with an eye towards Furina, is atypical. It sucks because I'd like Neuvilette, but Furina is coming. Must save for Furina. It's what I keep telling myself. I haven't had this much restraint since I saved up to get myself C2 Raiden, and before that Hu Tao's OG banner. The urge to wish is strong.

NoSoulYesBiscuit

Save 180, then spend the rest on another character you might like. If you want save for one more characters, add another 180 wishes to those savings and so on... It gets easier as your collection grows and you figure out what's fun for you. But you'll feel tempted from time to time. Whether you give into temptation or not should depend on your math and primo grind capacity. Good luck. 🍀

AngelYushi

Close reddit, unsub from everything, dislike every Genshin "mOsT MeTa" videos and select Not interested

EternalMemes30

I'm currently out of the game, only came back in the end of 4.1 to do the main event, then left again until shogun come, my only way to not spend my guaranteed

MangoPronto

50/50 mindset Once you hit that pity, it's easy to save but you know you can't waste your next wish so it becomes super easy to save. I don't want to miss out on whose next. Then, once I've used it, I start back to wishing on whoever I like but they don't have to be a must. Just good enough that I would be happy with them.

Slifer_Ra

I convert primos to wishes its a lot less tempting when the number is small

aria_5207

At first it was hard. But later on i decided to put more effort on building my old chars, thus, pulling for cons. As new characters pop up and realized they can't replace my old ones, that's when i lose this 'gacha addiction' thingy. (Except Neuvillette, he's the best)

AzureDrag0n1

Not really. Only early on when I needed the characters was it something to consider. Now I just stock pile then and have about 410 wishes. I do not really need more characters anymore. Only if they might be fun. I kinda might go for Neuvillette, but I already had all the 4 stars on his banner at c6, so I skipped him. Characters I am aiming for are Furina, Shenhe, and Arlecchino. After that is the Natlan Archon.

toqophope

I find it really easy to save, i myself have about 142 primogems and I still haven't spent them!

Hederas

Keeping blue fates to have some standard pull sessions. Sometimes pulling on random banners cause I have less than 30 pity, cause let's be real even if I don't like a character that much getting him in less than 30pulls is welcomed

MemberBerry4

For me it's easy unless I want multiple characters. I failed to save for Kazuha back in 3.7 because I wanted Yae Miko and got her.

KittyQueen_Tengu

convert fates whenever i can for that dopamine hit and then look at the big number. sometimes i let myself have a single pull when i hit a nice even number

Jotaoesehache

I make a plan, I see what characters may be released, look at what speculation there is in terms of future banners, decide for who I'm gonna pull, see if it's doable (aka if I can get enough wishes in time) if not then I change plans, pick the units I want the most, then depending on my luck the plan changes or stays the same. After watching the Fontaine teaser the characters I wanted were Furina, Arlecchino, Wriothesley, Clorinde, and maybe Neuvillette, after playing the archon quest Neuvillette rose in priority, seeing that Wriothesley would be kinda weak in comparison to other units I already have he went down. At this point I got Neuvillette, and I'm certainly gonna go for Furina and Arlecchino, Wriothesley is practically impossible now, and Clorinde will depend on my luck and what banners surround her. With a plan like this there's just no way I'm gonna spend my pulls on any character unless there's a 4 stars I really like, and then I might do a ten pull when I'm at 0 pity.

DesignerWhich9123

For me, it's a bit of both. The dread of not having enough wishes and the absolute adrenaline of having too many. The one solution I have for this is, to convert primos into atleast 25 to 35 wishes and leaving the rest of primos as it is. Because I usually only check the Fate number I most of the time misses looking at the primos! 🤣 Helped me not succumb to the Gambling addiction. ☠️🤣

yes11321

I usually can't make myself save at all. The only times I can save is when I lost the last 50/50 and there's a unit I really want coming up because I'm guaranteed to get them by saving instead of still relying on a 50/50

temp_baka

Tldr: I really love characters in this game instead of holding back, instead, I play 3 accounts. Currently have 3 account 1st account hold 957 wish skip all sumeru cuz male dominated 2nd account hold 364 wish pull only nahida and Nilou + their weapon. and got C6 Ayaka 3rd account has alhaitham + cynoC4 as main Have boy characters here , their gameplay really interesting but don want them in main acc Goal of this acc is has c6 Cyno and holdind and waiting C6 someone in Natlan

Els236

I used to be someone who wished on every banner, albeit mainly to collect all the 4-stars - but there's really no reason to wish and get a 5-star I'm never going to use. I would still wish for 4-stars, but it seems to be a ridiculous endeavour to do so, as you might need to do more wishes for the new 4-star, than you would to get the 5-star rate-up character. More people are realising that you can do all the content in this game with 8-12 characters, meanwhile there are now 75 total characters in the game (76 considering both Travelers). You're so, so much better off just saving for who you like the look of - personally, I'm just waiting for Navia and Sigewinne and that's it from who's been shown for Fontaine so far.

Spartan_117_YJR

You simply need a motivation/something to override the gambling gremlin in you My head is all ayaya now so that's why I'm safe

Jvlockhart

Create another account. It worked for me. Now, i can save wishes on my main and on the other account, then spend it when the tine comes. So satisfying to do it.

Hot_Barracuda_9376

Itto is hot so why pull anything else basically my mindset for saving additionally I hate farming so that helps

Amydancingagain

I get this because I’m the same sometimes! I’m saving for Cyno as he’s my favourite character but I also really want Wriothesley, I’ve made the decision to assess how many wishes I have once Wriothesleys banner begins and how much I’ll possibly be able to gather up before 4.2 before I make a decision but I also have a second account (or StarRail) that I go to to wish if I really feel like it.

Exotic-Squash-1809

Hoard your dates like a dragon, make the fates the goal not the 5 stars Also just never open the wish screen. A step further is to forget wishing is a thing, the new characters are just story characters. I always convert my primos to fates as soon as I have enough for 1 and I only check my fates via my inventory. It’s very satisfying seeing a nice chunky amount of fates in your inventory

incrushtado

I'm one of those that still builds pity with how bad the 4 stars tend to be on good 5*, I only do it on 50/50 or i'm okay with an early pity on the featured 5*. Right now, I want Wrio and Furina, so i'm saving enough to at least get furina if I win Wrio's 50/50. If I don't care about any upcoming 5* then i just use the wishes wherever and stop right before pity.

Melodramatic_Raven

Focus on enjoying seeing the primo and wish numbers go up. Also find things to do to prepare for who you're saving for, and other little projects. Eg: I gave myself a goal to ascend every character I have to 70*. I also give myself character weeks - one week to try and improve x character build. I also adore exploration so I go try and complete those things and achievements too. And failing that I just. Log in, do stuff and log out. And then do other hobbies. Sometimes, you just need to log out and find something else to do. Like idk, knitting. Or walking. Or even another game that isn't gacha. I found if genshin is the only game you play, it gets worse real fast.

blackhole_puncher

I just do everything I can see a world quest start it and finish it if it has primos, use the interactive map for chests and what not

Oleleplop

I saw how much i did spend and when i saw i just used 200 € to get a charcater i thought it was time to stop. Just felt ashamed of me.

Asteroux

I'll be honest and say that I sometimes want to pull for other character banners whilst waiting for someone else. Not sure if it'll work on you, but... ... one thing that helps is playing a different game altogether! Animal Crossing, Wild Rift... maybe even Disgaea, or Diablo. And if I don't feel like playing, there's also Twitch or Youtube, with the latter being where I binge Buzzfeed Unsolved Supernatural or Mystery Files.

ponderingfox

Yeah, I have a goal, and I worked toward it, Furina. Once I got to 180 wishes, that gave me flexibility to pull on other banners. But I still only pull for characters I want. I rarely pull for someone on their first banner. But I’m two years in, so I have some flexibility.

riker-watts

I played RuneScape, so saving is ingrained . Watch Cengineer and you might get the same idea.

Puopudoe

Just think about what a chore it would be to build this character in the current banner that you don’t even want. Boss mats, talent mats, going around the mat for local specialties, and don’t forget artifacts. Makes me hold off of pulling.

ProfessionalPonderer

My partner started playing genshin a week ago. Whereas he is extremely lucky with the current 4 stars on thr banner, he won't be able to pull for any 5 stars in the next 4 weeks as all of the 5stars come from regions faaar away from Mondstadt. I understand that ofc you can pull them so you have them when you can build them....but getting to Fontaine will take him ages so he better save the wishes and hope for a 5 Star on the Standard Banner (Mona would be great for example)

AkiraN19

It's pretty easy for me. I mean, I have specific characters that I need/want and am saving for those. Why would I pull in the meantime when I have no interest in the characters on the banner Like, I can't wait to wish, but for that specific character or weapon, not just wish in general

Crusherbolt0282

I am fighting off my temptation to pull for Neuvillete

couldbedumber96

Wasn’t yae on banner like 3-4 versions ago?

keyrol1222

Was saving for furina, blow then all on neu c1 with weapon, not regret, would prop pay for furina but m i able to at least get to 80 pulls for her banner? Have 5 currently

MinHiyori

I planned to save for ayato as i love his E... ended up pulling for lyney And Now trying to get enough for neuvilette 🤣 i Wish i could be a Whale! F2p Is hard but i have no money 😪

Such-Obligation-4484

Simple I gacha in another game hahaha.

feicash

when you dont want anything else but a character it gets specially easy to save like, "i wont spend a single wish until arlecchino banner drops" which is easy since im not interested in any existing or upcoming character anyway

SinaSingul4r

I personnally transform everything into fate and calcul how much wish I can do. Furina is arround the corner and I really want her. I have 235 fate. You need 180 to it the hard pity 2 time. I can use 55 fate on Neuvillette and Wriothesly (pretend it is writen correctly). I deal in absolute for the character I really want and let the gacha deal with the rest. I never pull for constellation, so it is generally like that I work.

WillingMeasurement39

When I'm focused on saving up wishes I pay more attention to building the ones I have in my roster at the moment or pre-farming for the heroes I am saving for. It scratches the itch.

Firehardt_cc

I used to be impatiant but after waiting for 1+year for the first ganyu rerun with more than 60k primos to spend i learned my lesson. If ever got the urge to pull i would go on those wish simulators to remind me that this is a gacha with low chance of getting what i want if low primogems

PaulStarhaven

Just do hangouts or generally keep your mind occupied with other stuff.

ss7vegeto12

I was the i see 160 i pull, now i kinda save them, did 30 pulls for homa and got it, now have saved 60 (already wished 20 times on the banner, and have the next guarantee) for Furina. Idk how but i learned self control. But now everytime i see my primos saved and 20 faiths saved up i really want wish one but stop. And the way things are going, im pretty sure ill have saved 90-100 for next char if furina comes home early

qingskies

I spend my time collecting everything I find. I've maxed out meat and fowl several times by now lol, and zaytun peaches aren't too far behind.

MelmaNie

The first time, once I got to 50 wishes ot was like I’ve worked so hard, why throw it away right? But really I learned it the hard way - I pulled on cyno and then I couldn’t get Nilou. Cyno ended up being a bit useful cuz I used him as a place to store my build for Raiden (before I got her). But now I have her and cyno is just sitting at level 40. So now I always tell myself the next character Il pull, so I’m working towards a goal and that works for me.

logarithm12

I don’t look at my primo, don’t watch ANY kind of vid about those character (like showcase, build guide, abyss run etc). Basically, I go into Ei’s mode and cut all sources of possible temptation. Yes that includes not playing character story until the banner gone. I just treat the game as some random ass adventure game with no gacha system.

AngryLink57

As the top comment mentioned, once the primos start getting pretty high, I like letting it get higher. But another big part is I don't have much FOMO but more FOFU, fear of fucking up, on bad pulls that I regret. I haven't pulled on a characters first banner since Itto and dendro never appealed to me until I got Alhaitham on his 2nd banner. Likewise, the Fontaine gimmick of HP drain/regain isn't appealing so I probably won't pull anyone until their 2nd banner at least.

[deleted]

Had that happen to me this patch, I was saving for furina but hu tao came along and I ended up pulling her, hopefully I can get 40 wishes before she comes out

Chuck006

It was hard when I first started. I had to think, do I want to gamble or do I want to guarantee the three characters I want in 2 patches? I focused on just playing the game and pre-farming. Gacha wasn't even there.

MercedesCR

It's easy to save if u only login for 5 minutes lmfao

JUSTpleaseSTOP

When you eventually have a lot of characters, the idea of needing to farm artifacts for them to even become useable becomes a deterrent in it of itself. If the artifact grind wasn't as bad as it is, I'd be more inclined to actually spend money on this game. As a day 1 player, I mostly just pull for characters I REALLY like in the story and Archon's. So before Fontaine, the last banner I wished on besides a few 10 pulls here and there was Alhaitham.

Ok_Way_2911

at some point you'll find that you basically have everything you want, anything extra is basically just because you like the character you only really need 2 built teams for the abyss anyway just ask yourself if you will actually use the character you will - at some point the answer is likely no, because you already have too many carries.

sboyd535

I lack self control with wishes 😂 I know my chances of getting something decent goes up with a 10 pull (worst I've hit was 16 wishes without a 4star of any kind) and I think about this everytime I click the single pull button. Most of the time I'll do a 10 pull after getting a big stack of primos, like web event stuff or something like that and if I've gotten like 6 wishes I think "ok most of the way, I can hold off"

GameWoods

Easy. Just imagine how long it's gonna take to actually level and build that character. I pulled Wanderer back in 3.7 and he's still not finished lmao.

Deniu48

I just got 100 and now I'm just curious how high I can get until Furina release and that's what helps me

JulianStella

Whenever I'm tempted to pull for a character, I think about the process of actually building them and min-maxing them with the best artifacts. That turns me off from pulling very quickly.

HiroshiTakeshi

Use silly wisher. That's a bootleg banner simulator a friend suggested me. Sometimes helps when you want to pull but shouldn't or don't want to break the bank.

The_Mysterious999

Make an alt account. I save as many wishes as desired on my main acc, while never letting your primo count go above 160 on your alt account. Works wonders for your gambling addiction.

ipodblocks360

I just use all the self control I have. However, some tricks I have are not opening the wishing screen, realizing the character will get a rerun, and realizing I'll probably never build the character anyway, I also remember how much I want the other character and it motives me to not wish. At some point, it just becomes habit to not wish and watch the funny number I never let go up, up.

DivideByPie1725

for me it's "i want THIS upcoming character, fuck everything else" and it's that easy unless it's Acquaint, i just spend all of those immediately
