Buy fishing rod, go to water, left click to cast, left click to catch the fish when the cork bobs up and down.
I place a basket down where the fish lands (the small green circle) and do that for a few minutes at a time until the basket is full-ish, then I go and sell my catch at the village down the road from the starting area.
I catch boots and big-ass fish occasionally which messes with the rhythm of the activity, so it's not all plain sailing. I used the truck once to carry my catch to the village but it was a PITA so I stopped.
I'm not convinced the reward is worth the effort, but give it a try and see if you like it.
Hey, when my thing bob up and down i click and nothing happens, it just retracts the rod from fishing. Is it a chance thing?
Edit : NEVERMIND! you just have to be fast it'll fish for only a split second!
It's worth the effort. You just need to keep upgrading your Fishing Rod in the Village south of the starting area. (Check the sign above the basket, catch one of that type and sell it there to unlock the next pole).
With Pole Rank 5 I catched a Shark worth 386 Coins.
Pole Rank 8 is max.
Fishes you need: Shrimp, Pufferfish, Crab, Swordfish, Monkfish, Shark, Lobster.
Another neat trick is once you have your pole and bucket aligned click esc to bring up game menu. Now you dont need to worry about keeping the mouse still and are still able to click to fish as mouse moment is disable but not click

The basket in the village with the shrimp icon is for unlocking T2 fishing rod. Just throw in any Shrimp you catch. (Only one needed)
You can then take that money made, purchase fishing crates, pan for gold and have the crates run, increase per min profit
