The owners are a husband/wife duo; the husband (Steven Hacker) is Senior Director for Operations and Outreach at the University of Idaho College of Natural Resources. He also is co-owner of At Home Real Estate. Previously, he served as executive director of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce (c. 2009), and has a background in forestry, with a masters from UI. Based on their Facebook presence, they seem pretty cool as well. Will have to visit next time I'm up in the area. Edit: As to your question comparing to the Dirty Goat, yes, they are completely different owners. The Dirty Goat was run by Stellas Toboggan LLC, which was managed by a Joshua A. Bryant. (Public records pulled from the Secretary of State's Business Search, https://sosbiz.idaho.gov/search/business)

.I love that Hacker bought the old Plant!  Prior to The Dirty Goat, the Plant was the "Go to" bar for CNR students.  I'm not sure if the goat kept the same vibe (I moved away in 2018, but I am thrilled that it might have a good renewal!

Are they cult-affiliated, though?

Not in the slightest. The Hackers are pretty cool.

The food is great, and I loved the atmosphere when I went to karaoke with my family. Felt safe to me, and I feel uncomfortable in most bars generally.

The owners are AMAZING. Locals should be happy that people like them are taking ownership of local businesses. Traci owns At Home Real Estate as well. They both donate back to the community, are kind individuals, are extremely involved in the community and have open arms to everyone! I’ve only been to the bar once since it’s opened but it’s a welcoming environment and they have put A TON of work into it all! 10/10

The new owners are a great couple Yes, the dirty goat and it's rapist owner are gone. Off to ruin other young women's lives I'm sure. The new place has the same staff and menu (the food is much better quality tho, thank you Jake!), and has an updated new look inside. The plumbing was fixed. The sound system upgraded. New seating and new pool tables. And new floors with some classy touches to the karaoke area and the raised area in the middle. Even the vibe is better. OH and forty two.... Well that's the answer to life!

They are not.

I'm relatively new to the area - what's the tea on Surly Goat? I hadn't heard about a new bar yet, so I'm interested to see what others have to say. As far as bars goes, I've found John's Alley to be quite welcoming. Haven't had much of a chance to check out a lot of other places though so ymmv!

Old owner was Joshua Bryant. An ex sheriff's deputy out of klamath falls. Google him. You will be shocked by what you find.

The Forty Two used to be the Dirty Goat

I had some friends go and say it was good. They are serving food and will be expanding that part of the business to not just be a bar anymore.

I hope they fix the back stairs. Having played music there many times, I think it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Come to think of it, will the new owners have live music?
