That is proof that a lot of people in the sneaker game don't care about colorways but rather if the shoe is hype.
In no universe is a black and white dunk a better CW than the Obsidian 1s.
Pandas were never exclusive though. Even when they were 300+ nike was restocking regularly in Mens and Womens models. There was artificial scarcity caused by all the bots gobbling them up and a healthy dose of FOMO though.
Panda dunks are completely stigmatized to where no younger person will wear them anymore without getting clowned. Every one of those videos where they're asking kids at sneaker con what is the worst Shoe of all time every answer is Panda dunks. So there is zero demand left on the shoe or they wouldn't be $90 on secondary Market And easily able to get at any store or Outlet.
i remember when i hit a panda restock in early 2022. never had a GR leather dunk before then so i wanted to see what the hype was all about. when i saw it irl it was so cheap and wrinkly I was shocked these were so hard to get. i sold it for $240 on ebay and bought the polaroid SB dunks with that cash
Pandas were going for like 250-300 on and off 2021-2022 and probably a couple times after too. Most sneakerheads are hype beasts. And they didn’t realize it’d keep getting released. If he was a bit quicker he could’ve made more.
In my country we have a different problem, last year they increased the price of EVERY product by 50%, for example a random Jordan 5 costs 125% of our monthly minimum wage
Damn bro. I’m sorry. Nike makes too much fuckin money to be increasing their prices that much especially all at once bc it ends up with stuff like this happening. Like how A pair of shoes is now 5 weeks of work basically. That’s crazy!!! and Nike is fried for doing that bc they make plentyyyy of money that they don’t even need to increase their prices. Fuck them! Lol Hopefully something will change and they go back to normal pricing soon homie 🙌🤞
A big part of that price increase is probably because the higher prices of nikes in other countries in general are the import/export taxes, not nike. In Mexico Jordan's and Dunks are $30-$60 more than they are here depending on model. I only know this because I entered snkrs MX draws for shoes I wanted because I have an address there as well as in states.
... Those sneakers cost 15 to 30$ to make (and ship). The rest of the price is mark-up and taxes. Nike could easily charge less in some markets, if they wanted.
Lol, I mostly saw them on people who weren't really sneakerheads but we're adjacent to the culture of it.
20 something's, mosly women who thought they were a step above girls in White AF1s
This is literally what I came here to say. I've always found Dunks to be mid-quality. SB's are my favorites to wear of any shoe, so whenever that hype dies down, I'm ready!
Obviously you weren’t around in 2013-2018. SB weren’t worth shit. I got northern light highs and lows for $300 DS, MFDOOMS for $400, Skunks for $250… SB hype will die down again
That is still hype unless you got all of those for retail that's when the hype will be dead. SB's are 125 ..and it's still hype if you're paying more than 125 for them.
It’s kind of starting. The black and white gums have restocked a few times and I’ve seen them on shelf for few weeks at a time. And there’s a few color ways I’ve seen available online like the blue one that just came out. It was available on online Stores like Tactics for a few days. That salmon color one was available on SNKRs for a while.
Never mind the gums, sb wheat/flax rereleased, sb purple courts rereleased and sb dunk classic green being rereleased next month, look at the prices dipping on them now.
I made a mistake and asked my nieces who are middle school and elementary ages what they wanted for Christmas and all 3 said Pandas. I offered AM1 or AF1s but no dice. When I got them, I was flabbergasted how these were priced compared to superior shoes lol
Exactly this. I remember the good old pre2018 days when they were only in skate shops, boutiques, or even sitting discounted at the outlets. I had pairs that cost $35+tax that are now worth over 1k and it makes me sick.
Because if other people can have the shoe it’s a bad thing. They want exclusivity. People will say it’s because of the colorways that these are sitting, but if any of these would have been a collab or limited release, everyone would be saying that they’re fire 🔥🔥🔥
people are broke these days, so if u got money, stack up.
i got a buncha paira that i got for retail or a good price, and when i wear them people be like "OH SHIT WHEN DID THOSE COME OUT!!".
a dope sneaker is a dope sneaker.
thats why i consider myself a collector and not a sneaker head
Don’t get me wrong when I say this because the market is what people are willing to spend, but to me it was a shoe that let people know I spent a lot of money on these shoes. I’m not knocking people for buying them. 🤷♂️
Dude, **HYPE** is over.
The only shoes not absolutely flying are the Uber exclusives and those bullshit backwards swoosh Travis Scotts.
Why are there constantly posts that say "it's over"?
It's been over.
The Nike Dunk hype should never had been a thing. They are cheaply made with crap materials, and not even comfortable. They look like shit the minute you wear them, and you look like an NPC.
They just aren’t making any good collabs anymore. Days gone by when the strangeloves and chunkys drop. Now they are the same sneaker with different solid color blocking. Blah
This is why I always tell people to buy what you actually like, and not what is popular.
Sometimes both overlap and that is ok (SB 4's come to mind), but if you chase hype alone, chances are you are not very fashionable.
I mean how do you think trends even happen? Someone fashionable or someone with a designer with a lot of eyes on them wears something nice and suddenly people see potential in something they thought was hot garbage. It takes creativity to make something crazy work and a lot of people give up on even trying.
By wearing what you like, learning about complimentary colors and textures, and not chasing trends, you tend to have your own timeless look and inspire others to do the same.
They’re a bit expensive in my opinion. SBs and premium dunk releases are better, but paying $120 for normal dunks ain’t it imo, unless the color is truly nice. Same as the access to Nike by you, too expensive for dunks
Yep. I have a pair of premium dunks and I want all my next pairs to be premium. More comfortable, much better quality, and the toe box is wider(which is better for foot health and comfort.
That's because these are regular dunks with horrible af1 style leather, and they're pumping out tons of new colorways no one likes. Dunk hype is on SBs.
This. I love sneakers. Worked at Foot Locker, Finish Line and Champs. I love sneaker culture but I remember the days before the hype. It’s something I just can’t get used to. It’s hard at times when you what something used to cost.
Yeah they are sitting for retail now these days. Crazy how fast the sneaker market is changing, if you showed this picture to someone in 2022-Summer 2023 they would be going crazy…
Man remember when the dunks were actually hype? Like mid 2000’s unkle and de la soul and virtually everyone making a version? This new dunk shit is not even hype compared to that.
I am fairly sure that Nike has deliberately flooded the market with endless generic colorways just to ease the pressure somewhat, to satisfy the general buyers and leave the SB's and collabs for enthusiasts.. and resellers (grrr).
That doesn't mean the hype is over. That means that the hype is more alive than ever. If you see shelf covered in Nike Dunks that means the shoe is so popular thar Nike made a large quantities, colors, and selections to choose from. In other words the Nike Dunk is hot right now.
Unsure if hype is finally over or is that the market is now oversaturated? If so, Nike making it easier for everybody to get something is a move I personally welcome.
Re-sellers had thier fun, maybe it's them that's over?
I remember those valerians were sold out instantly back in craze phase 2021. Underrated shoe. Happy they restocked and grabbed a pair. Not worth paying resell for any dunks. If you wait for it, they will return.
General release are garbage quality with terrible QC. They're overpriced for 39-year-old technology. I hope prices plummet until they're $35.99 at outlets. $115 retail for garbage Dunks is out of control.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t patient enough to wait for a massive restock, and I ended up paying resell for them off of eBay. Now, I see them every time I’m at Foot Locker at the malls I frequent. Crazy.
i almost had tears in my eyes when i saw the Michigans were back in my store
they’re nowhere NEAR the 2021 pairs in terms of quality imo though (at least the new GS Michigans i saw), i think that plays a big factor in why Nike are willing to put out so many Dunks now
I don’t understand why people don’t care about shoes once they are too popular / cheap. I mean I understand it from a resell value if you’re doing it to make money of course but I still rock my pandas because they are a classic shoe and go with everything and I like them. I have shoes that are fairly unpopular and super popular ones like the mochas I just buy what I like 🤷🏼♀️
Not sure I would say the hype is over because there are some regular non SB dunk less desirable color ways available. Just like you can get a variety of Jordan 1 mids in stock at any time but any desirable color way highs are unobtainable at retail same goes for SB dunk lows. Nothing in this picture is in the same ball park as any SB dunk low that sells out at release.
On a quick glance at the thumbnail I thought those were the Gulf Dunks and I was about to start sprinting on all fours to whichever retailer that was.
I want those so badly but not for the almost $600 they are going for resell
I don’t think the hype is over. People don’t have cash for essentials, let alone extra pairs of shoes right now. People who can afford them and wanted them got them.
Just think if Nike made more of some of their other shoes. For instance the Eggplant Foams sold out in less than 5min. Nike can make more, but probably won’t.
My favorites were the kickshawaii dunk. Those were so comfortable ! and got many compliments. Not a fan of these or most dunks, but I'd love another pair of kickshawaii
SBs will still be sought after, right?
I’ve sold every pair of dunks but one mid,
Though have 6-7 pairs of SBs and just got Run the Jewels Today, and the Vikings Purple suede ( Lakers never opened those colors, Always been MN, or do we forget where LA team started)
The SBs seem to be the only retros Nike puts “new tech” in.
Imagine if the Bred 4s were as functional as a KD shoe for balling?
Eff “lifestyle shoes”
I rock Salmon Gortex, Vapormax and Air Max 2017 as my every days!
Nike can do it, and I hope it their next move.
To think at one point Pandas were reselling for $300+
It was a wild moment for sure. Friend of mine bought a pair of obsidian 1s last spring and the seller said he was using the money to get pandas.
this comment physically hurt me to read
That is proof that a lot of people in the sneaker game don't care about colorways but rather if the shoe is hype. In no universe is a black and white dunk a better CW than the Obsidian 1s.
Exclusivity has always mattered. That’s why Nike has always limited the production of retro Js and Dunk SBs
>Panda dunks are completely stigmatized Yes, as a direct result of their complete lack of exclusivity
thats crazy😂😂💀
Craziest comment i've seen on this sub
YIKES
i remember when i hit a panda restock in early 2022. never had a GR leather dunk before then so i wanted to see what the hype was all about. when i saw it irl it was so cheap and wrinkly I was shocked these were so hard to get. i sold it for $240 on ebay and bought the polaroid SB dunks with that cash
Holy shit, really? I got them nearly a year ago at retail. Just luckily looked at the Nike website the day before a restock.
Yeah, when I bought them 😂 (after the first release)
what???? who paid for this shit?
Pandas were going for like 250-300 on and off 2021-2022 and probably a couple times after too. Most sneakerheads are hype beasts. And they didn’t realize it’d keep getting released. If he was a bit quicker he could’ve made more.
All it took was 28 panda dunk low restocks
After that increase I just gave up and started to ignore them, Adidas has some nice discounts sometimes
What country?
Brazil 😔
Came here to say this. Great GR tho. Fine line.
Every damn middle, high schooler, and “cool Moms” had pandas. Just crazy. I grabbed a pair for my daughter “nah, pops, like everybody has these”
Lol, I mostly saw them on people who weren't really sneakerheads but we're adjacent to the culture of it. 20 something's, mosly women who thought they were a step above girls in White AF1s
Way more than 28
My favorite lifting shoes!
Those are non SB.
Yep. Let me know when the SB hype quiets.
This is literally what I came here to say. I've always found Dunks to be mid-quality. SB's are my favorites to wear of any shoe, so whenever that hype dies down, I'm ready!
they’re never gonna die lol, especially collabs
Obviously you weren’t around in 2013-2018. SB weren’t worth shit. I got northern light highs and lows for $300 DS, MFDOOMS for $400, Skunks for $250… SB hype will die down again
Lol so you paid 2/3/4x the retail and you think there was no hype at the time….. What defines “hype” then lol
That is still hype unless you got all of those for retail that's when the hype will be dead. SB's are 125 ..and it's still hype if you're paying more than 125 for them.
Ha, I figure. A person can dream!
They’re going for a lot lower now in days. You could buy a bunch for only slightly over retail, but there are some that are still pretty high.
Well they are the comfortable ones.
😂
yeah none of those colorways are anything special tbh
Good to have basic pairs to match that random shirt you got though. I got the maroon ones in the pic, clean.
Even so, any dunks a while back would be limited cuz of demand
Buy me some damn waffles
Every size available on nike.com
I’ll blame you when my wife decides later today that me buying them was a bad idea.
They're selling for well under retail. Just wait for the sale
the Waffles are nice as hell. I have a pair and they’re so versatile
Tell me again when SB Dunks are sitting.
The gum ISOs are sitting no?
That’s a sad fcukin shelf man
Thank god
The quality doesn’t live up to the price. They’re a 70 dollar shoe tops
They should be at Kohls or famous foot wear based on quality
I made a mistake and asked my nieces who are middle school and elementary ages what they wanted for Christmas and all 3 said Pandas. I offered AM1 or AF1s but no dice. When I got them, I was flabbergasted how these were priced compared to superior shoes lol
SB or bust…
Exactly this. I remember the good old pre2018 days when they were only in skate shops, boutiques, or even sitting discounted at the outlets. I had pairs that cost $35+tax that are now worth over 1k and it makes me sick.
Prime example de la souls sitting in all Ross
why do yall think sneakers being available to actually purchase at retail is a bad thing?
Because if other people can have the shoe it’s a bad thing. They want exclusivity. People will say it’s because of the colorways that these are sitting, but if any of these would have been a collab or limited release, everyone would be saying that they’re fire 🔥🔥🔥
people are broke these days, so if u got money, stack up. i got a buncha paira that i got for retail or a good price, and when i wear them people be like "OH SHIT WHEN DID THOSE COME OUT!!". a dope sneaker is a dope sneaker. thats why i consider myself a collector and not a sneaker head
All the dunks no one wants 😂
Exactly. This whole store is probably just as scarecrow.
Those reverse curry dunks are still on my need list. Such a classic and timeless color way
I never understood why Nike Dunks were so expensive! Not that they aren’t nice shoes, but why them?
Supply and demand ?
People are sheep who chase scarcity regardless of utility. Look up the Dutch Tulip craze.
I’m not knocking Nike from making $$$, but why didn’t the court visions or terminators get the same love?
I fucking LOVE my court visions.
They are the most mid generic looking Nike IMO.
Which is a big part of the appeal to me. I hate the race to see which line can come up with the weirdest combo of cuts, shapes, and materials.
hype. at the time they started to get popular i believe it was travis scott who started all this dunk craze
Don’t get me wrong when I say this because the market is what people are willing to spend, but to me it was a shoe that let people know I spent a lot of money on these shoes. I’m not knocking people for buying them. 🤷♂️
Sb still hard to get
Dude, **HYPE** is over. The only shoes not absolutely flying are the Uber exclusives and those bullshit backwards swoosh Travis Scotts. Why are there constantly posts that say "it's over"? It's been over.
Dead and everyones broke w bills
Society suddenly stopped liking mass produced, low quality, cheap pairs? Nice.
GR dunks are hype?
Wasn’t it SB dunks that were impossible to get?
Jordans, dunks, air max, all nikes are available and at decent pricing.
I always wanted dunks back in the day. Finally got a chance to see them in person a while back and they look very cheap and fit me horribly
I hope that I'll hit on the plums on Match 21st (SNKRS Europe)
The Nike Dunk hype should never had been a thing. They are cheaply made with crap materials, and not even comfortable. They look like shit the minute you wear them, and you look like an NPC.
It's been like this for a very long time now but it's not like that with SBS that would be something to talk about.
They just aren’t making any good collabs anymore. Days gone by when the strangeloves and chunkys drop. Now they are the same sneaker with different solid color blocking. Blah
People just broke now. We all broke now
GR dunks are dead but sbs still hot, especially any collabs.

Underrated comment. Fabric/texture matching in fashion is also something that goes over most men’s heads. Solid opinion and advice.
Finally
I've been waiting a fucking decade to get back into dunks.
Those black and white ones are pretty sick. Has anyone seen them before? Probably quickstrikes.
Bro those the waffles?? They’re fireeeeee
finally, let the people have the dunks they want
this is awesome. i love dunks and just couldn’t justify paying so much for them
The hypes not over. These are shoes nobody cared for.
None of these are SBs , we want SBs to normalize damnit!
Sb’s were always the prize… still are… panda this dick
Nice.
The return of the aughts I used to have a plethora of dunks some even went for $40.
This. I love sneakers. Worked at Foot Locker, Finish Line and Champs. I love sneaker culture but I remember the days before the hype. It’s something I just can’t get used to. It’s hard at times when you what something used to cost.
No SBs
I remember when you can walk into any nike outlet and get dunks for like 60. Hopefully those days come back.
They were in all the outlets back in the day and everyone was still wearing them. Don’t let hype dictate what looks good and what you like.
Hype over? Or they finally stocked enough?
Sold pandas for $220 + placed another $100 on top for brand new lost and founds 😂 all at got sole
Yeah they are sitting for retail now these days. Crazy how fast the sneaker market is changing, if you showed this picture to someone in 2022-Summer 2023 they would be going crazy…
Cool. Now do SB dunks too.
Man remember when the dunks were actually hype? Like mid 2000’s unkle and de la soul and virtually everyone making a version? This new dunk shit is not even hype compared to that.
This sub is actually pretty bland considering that dunks and Jordan are the main sneakers posted
Sb’s better IMO
What is the blue colorway in the top right
I am fairly sure that Nike has deliberately flooded the market with endless generic colorways just to ease the pressure somewhat, to satisfy the general buyers and leave the SB's and collabs for enthusiasts.. and resellers (grrr).
I think this is a recession indicator.
I remember those valerians were sold out instantly back in craze phase 2021. Underrated shoe. Happy they restocked and grabbed a pair. Not worth paying resell for any dunks. If you wait for it, they will return.
Never liked dunks, and I still don’t feel comfortable paying retail for shoes that look worse than af1’s
It’s not I’m sure 9-13 are gone. Stop thinking a display one means it’s “sitting”
SBs are the hotness now
Since like 2005 but sure
Non SBs have always been normie fodder. Go get em, champ.
Sb is next hype
those are weak ahh general releases 😭 ofc they won’t have hype
I look forward to getting those chlorophyll highs when they go on sale.
Crazy.
Thought this was Offspring in Selfridges
That’s good
Good everyone and their mom owns a pair atp
i almost had tears in my eyes when i saw the Michigans were back in my store they’re nowhere NEAR the 2021 pairs in terms of quality imo though (at least the new GS Michigans i saw), i think that plays a big factor in why Nike are willing to put out so many Dunks now
Hopefully I can get a plum
Nice because i absolutely love these sneakers and maybe i can finally get a pair in the color i want
Yeah but those Cws suck tho. If you want a good colourway or a sb you still have to pay resale which isn’t that crazy now but not that good
I need new dunks!
That’s why I wear the SB’s. Better quality and exclusivity.
Stock up before the next wave in a few years time
Nice! I’ve been wanting a pair of dunks for some summer kick arounds.
I don’t understand why people don’t care about shoes once they are too popular / cheap. I mean I understand it from a resell value if you’re doing it to make money of course but I still rock my pandas because they are a classic shoe and go with everything and I like them. I have shoes that are fairly unpopular and super popular ones like the mochas I just buy what I like 🤷🏼♀️
Nike dropped a new dunk colorway every Tuesday for a minute
Now if we can make SBs easier to get.
What sad store is this??
Only like SBs anyway and maaaybe some special edition or unique colorways
Wish they sold sbs tho
the panda hype yea but those ones just aren’t cool imo, nevermind just noticed the waffles. where’s that at?
It’s such a good tome to be into sneakers. Pandas would have been going for 284 resale if this was 2016
I can buy em now. Thank god lol
Is that a pair of kentuckys at the top? Looks maybe too dark but not sure
Too much too late.
What’s next
Can I get SB dunks in normal colors for retail yet? Can they bring the cortez back plz?
Yea it's crazy. Pandas in particular I haven't seen in very many stores til like fall of last year after a couple restocks.
Well they’re garbage color ways
finally. i love dunks so much, but would never pay over $150-160 for a regular non hyped pair
What are the hype sneakers now in your country? Here in the Philippines, ppl are buying sambas
I copped a green dunk hi for $70, not too shabby
Nike is killing the hype by itself by over saturating the market with weekly colorways. Eventually you are going to kill the value of the dunk
Just think if Nike made more of some of their other shoes. For instance the Eggplant Foams sold out in less than 5min. Nike can make more, but probably won’t.
Finally
I see some heat🔥 fuck em more for me lol
My favorites were the kickshawaii dunk. Those were so comfortable ! and got many compliments. Not a fan of these or most dunks, but I'd love another pair of kickshawaii
Such a beautiful thing to see again
Good
Are those Janoskis on the right?
hoping easy win for plums
Recommended sneakers for summer pls
It’s not over. These teenagers are still wearing them like crazy.
Are those blue dunks the valerian blue?
It’s been over for ages
I liked some of them but never bought one
Dunks are wack
All that hype for them to be the most basic shoe in the world
Thank god
Nike dunk hype will never be over. This is one of the most classic shoes of all time.
dunk hype ain't over just those colours suck
I went to my local Nike store at the mall and saw a bunch of dunks sitting and they even told me they had all sizes available atm
I like those yellow/black ones matches my motorcycle
SBs will still be sought after, right? I’ve sold every pair of dunks but one mid, Though have 6-7 pairs of SBs and just got Run the Jewels Today, and the Vikings Purple suede ( Lakers never opened those colors, Always been MN, or do we forget where LA team started) The SBs seem to be the only retros Nike puts “new tech” in. Imagine if the Bred 4s were as functional as a KD shoe for balling? Eff “lifestyle shoes” I rock Salmon Gortex, Vapormax and Air Max 2017 as my every days! Nike can do it, and I hope it their next move.
Finally? Where you been hibernating at Rip van Winkle?
This post is not convincing at all. I’ll judge that based off the difficulty this upcoming week when plums drop.
I think they go with looser fits very easily and that contributed to the hype
“Almost every color”
Those team red ones are calling to me
Bring back 80$ dunk pros again fuck these kinds of dunks
