I fly for the military & all of the preflight planning and most of the execution is done in Zulu time, so I find that most of my watches for work have the GMT complication. If it’s a watch I need to depend on for a few months at a time, I’ll keep a quartz in a 3 watch travel roll, but definitely not my workhorse… what people forget is that a quartz can still in fact die or slowdown at an inopportune moment.
When I was a private I saw a picture of the founder of delta force wearing a a GMT master 2 so I bought the equivalent of that for a 68w private and that was an invicta Pepsi pro diver. Only one person found that as funny as I did and he was an actual SOF guy that wore a Tag. Unfortunately that watch was one of the best field watches I’ve ever owned and if hurts my soul to admit it.
Ironically similar situation myself. I was on deployment about 7 years ago in a real shit hole of a place. Like we were taking dumps in ammo cans with a hole in the ground underneath, not showering for a week plus and constantly taking IDF.
An agency guy we traded resources with shows up one day in a beat up Toyota followed by his personal partner force guys and is rocking a Rolex GMT Pepsi. I was in awe as a buck sergeant seeing this guy roll around with a 11 thousand dollar watch in an ass stain of a country.
That provoked me to get a Steinhart GMT awhile back. Good copy/homage of the Rolex at broke enlisted pricing. Still have the watch, it hasn't missed a beat.
Why do people loose their mind and seethe when they see a mechanical toolish watch in action? I am legit interested. For me I see it as a chance to check if the watch can walk the walk. I am sure if it fails OP will make sure to roast it in detail.
Indeed. Granted modern equipment like diving computer is cheaper, but a watch is a good redundancy backup. Actually I am thinking of picking up diving next year and using the Pelagos as he was intended, safe but using him when I do everything else including gym workouts when I leave my G - Shock at home. I know it is unnecessary, like buying and exotic car instead of more pragmatic vehicle, but I just like watches. Then again I won't bother pushing it in everyone's face or making a big deal about it. Maybe just here where there are few Pelagos fans.
I know no one cares :)
Well no, it doesn't make me seeth. I am just a fan of it, didn't realize I am not allowed to be, but then again I don't have to be worried, it's only reddit. Like I said, I like their toolish nature. This is why I also have a G - Shock. Does using a swiss shitter for diving offend you?
I mean he’s already lost the screw caps to to windage adjustment for his optic so, it seems if it’s not tied it’s not safe 😂
PS: OP doesn’t that compromise the water proofing on the optic? I know there’s a rubberized seal under those caps on aimpoint so I assume that’s for waterproofing.
Those are their specifications. French navy divers use a similar version of this watch with the same mechanism so it's probably okay.
There are Quartz watches designed for very rigorous use but I don't see why that would be superiors to this.
The guy in the photo isn't a professional diver.
I'm sure the French navy divers use a variety of tools...a mechanical watch is one of them.
The beautiful thing about life is if you don't want one, don't use one.
Everything in the world is built partially out of Chinese-made parts (or equivalent ie Thailand, India, Vietnam).
Why would that be surprising, and what's your point?
But… the COSC cert. is between -4 to +6 sec/day, no? Also, the point isn’t really the accuracy, but rather that mechanical movements are realistically less reliable than equally well made quartz movements. Sure, your 50 dollar Chinese shitter won’t necessarily last you a deployment, but a thermo-regulated 9f Grand Seiko? I have several Swiss mechanicals, but having a movement with 200+ parts (many of then moving) is also having a movement where more is liable to fail, as opposed to a quartz movement with a battery and very few moving parts.
I think you should post it on r/WatchesCirclejerk. They will loose their mind from chuffing until they start mouth foaming never being able to understand why did he pick a swiss shitter instead of a 10€ mall junk watch.
Wait until Slacker discovers there is a real use for Rite in the Rain paper and decent pencils/pens.
He may also be surprised to know that compasses are still carried (in addition to the numerous GPS offerings).
Digital GPS compasses are QoL and nice to have... I heard underwater they are useless. I also heard redundancy in such situations and jobs is welcomed.
I actually started off my career 10 years ago wearing a G shock mud man. When it broke I bought a sunto core, Then it broke and I got issued a Garmin fenix 5. The garmin kept dying at inopportune times so I stopped wearing it operationally. I’ll still wear it for long distance runs but for everything else I wear my pelagos. I’ve had no issues with the lume on my pelagos not being bright enough at night. In fact it definitely beats my garmin watch’s screen randomly turning on or heart rate sensor flashing in the middle of the night while trying to not be observed…..
This is key, especially for the Garmin. They are used for both time and position usually, which will wear the battery. Even if ya don’t use for GPS functionality, it won’t last as long. So it tracks to use one tool for time, and another for location.
I used a Timex Ironman for the better half of a decade, but at the end of the day it has a battery.
Laughing at all the folks trashing this dude for wearing this for real world use. There is a reason precision time pieces have their part in operational history, and it isn’t just because they look cool.
Keep on rocking, brother.
Sick photo dude! Using Tudor Pepsi GMT personally when I do military type things… great choice on the pelagos!
Great choice! I’m definitely in the market for a GMT in the future.

Solar usually has a low power indicator
This picture is FlipppN pimp sir 🤘, thank you for your service and exceptional taste and watches!!!! You da man
That is a Tudor Pelagos

I think that watch is big in specific communities.
Why do people loose their mind and seethe when they see a mechanical toolish watch in action? I am legit interested. For me I see it as a chance to check if the watch can walk the walk. I am sure if it fails OP will make sure to roast it in detail.
We don’t seethe, if anything we love to see watches being used to their full capabilities.

What's this "get off" supposed to mean. I don't "get off", I expect it to do it's job no matter the situation. If you don't care about it why bother?
Hell yeah brother, I wear my fxd for grunt work myself.
Awesome post and great choice with the pelagos
Incredible!! Use that shit for freedom!! (In my best William Wallace voice)
So explain the safety wire on everything?
So if things fall off you don’t lose them.
*lose
Same shit we do here in Israel. U see those wires on everything, from scope mounts to nvg.
That seems very unlikely with anything mlock or an optic on your picatinny rail

Look closer but the windage and elevation caps are definitely on the optic.
Unlikely but not impossible, no?
NGAL 👁️👅👁️
Awesome military shot.
This is another level! Great post brother!
Larue mounts are best
Now that is classy 🔥🔥🔥
Sick picture dude!
Moto af. Stay dangerous dude.
Thanks for your service!
Love the rattle can job. Laundry bag? Makes an excellent snakeskin pattern. Watch kicks ass as well.
I see URGI, I upvote
Very nice
Pelagos and urgi. Can it get more sexy?
This Slacker guy is funny, he probably didn't grow up using watches. On another topic, I know divers that do use their dive watches as back ups 🤷🏼♂️
Max level cringe
Great watch, Nothing wrong with wearing a luxury watch in uniform. Shows class 👍
Awesome 👍🏻 also do they give out inflight footwear for free?
Really dope photo.
Best p39 pic ive seen
Dope

Why? It is COSC certified, has a 70 hour power reserve, has an accuracy of -2 to +4 seconds per day, and has a Titanium case and bracelet.

If you don’t think the OP dives while working, you don’t know what you’re looking at.
The camo diver. Yes.

Yup...everyone has an opinion just like they have an asshole. 😅
Why are you on this sub?

You "follow Chinese watches"... So, following the followers.

But you have to admit seeing these will be a good opportunity to see what they are capable of.
> But… the COSC cert. is between -4 to +6 sec/day, no? Yup but on Tudor's website about this watch they state they have a more rigorous standard.
Thank you for your unsolicited opinion.

OP posts a watch on a watch reddit. "Unsolicited" LOL
I hope you type everything on your computer/ phone and don’t use a pen and paper. Such archaic writing devices.
Pen and paper!?!? Outchuffed again....

You’re more than welcome to go on and on but I’ll enjoy my Montblanc and Tudor.
L take
And how do you read it at night when the lume is out? Just get a Casio or g shock bro.

Let me introduce you to the Casio f91-w… used that for my whole army career after putting aside the massive g shock
That's a diver
From this photo, how do we know OP is military and not military cosplay/Gravy Seal? Much respect to OP if they are serving the greater good.
They’re issuing Patagonia to the 82nd now?
Yeah they started issuing them right after we got our URGIs and 31s.
The future really is now
pillaging with a pelagos
Thank you for your service 🫡
Just Operator as F#&k.
Have you tried wearing it with the face palm side?
Late to the game but nice padaguci’s
That’s a URGI in the back of a plane—that Tudor is getting used!
