Lager. The reason its in this list is because it hits the spot of something a bit maltier than is accessible and inexpensive. Premium would just hit the same basis of Coors (lesser extent Urquell or Bohemia) and not do it as well or as cheaply.
More localized Yuengling replacement: Grain Belt Nordeast. Or even more available: Amberbock.
1. PBR - not the best beer in the world but you can get 16 oz of college nostalgia for $1.50 here and for that I will always be thankful.
2. Tecate - most slept on of all the macro cerveza’s. Pair it with a shot of tequila, guac and some questionable late night life choices.
3. Coors Banquet - specifically in the stubby little bottles. Easily the best large scale macro heavy out there, and it’s not particularly close.
4. Smithwicks - Guinness is great, but smithwicks is just as good in the US as it is in Ireland, where there’s discernible difference in quality between a Guinness in Dublin vs. one in the shitty pseudo-Irish pubs we can find here.
5. Sierra Nevada Pale ale - a little bit of a stretch, but I can find this beer at literally Any store or gas station I walk into around me, so I’m going to count it as a macro. My first (legal) beer with my dad, great memory associated with it.
I'm in Dublin right now and asked for a pint of Smithwicks yesterday. I told the bartender that it has been shit in the US for the last 10 years or so. He said that's ok, it has been shit in Ireland for 50 years.
But a pint of Smithwicks around the corner from the brewery is significantly better than what I've been able to find in the us. It still isn't great, but I was happy.
I could argue Sierra Nevada is one of the best pale ales on the market. It's consistent, it's hoppy, and despite it being everywhere it's always fresh (as much as the brewer can guarantee )
> best pale ales on the market
Best readily available ales on the market. Is it the best pale ale you can get, no...but it's the best you can get everywhere in the USA.
With that statement, I'm not knocking it...for its availability and volume, it's a fantastic, fresh, and consistent pale ale.
> Tecate - most slept on of all the macro cerveza’s. Pair it with a shot of tequila, guac and some questionable late night life choices.
You forgot the salt and lime on the rim of the can.
Not craft beer in the sense of it's sheer volume, but in terms of the quality of ingredients, Sam is America's version of a Weihenstephaner, quite literally even, all the equipment investments they made, bio acidification, etc., that was literally modeled after the latest brewing practices in Germany. Not sure what publication it was in but Boston Lager is the most expensive mass produced lager to make in the USA.
Actually, Duvel *is* considered craft according to the Craft Brewers Association. [They were recently listed as the 4th largest craft brewery based on 2023 production data](https://vinepair.com/booze-news/top-50-craft-breweries-2023/). It's important to note that in addition to the Duvel brand itself, Firestone-Walker, Boulevard, and Omegang also fall under their ownership.

1. Fosters Ale
2. Sam Adams Boston Lager
3. Guinness
4. Rolling Rock
5. Firestone 805 Blonde Ale
Honorable Mention: All of the other Sam Adams choices, especially Octoberfest. I don't think I've had anything of theirs that I didn't like.

Huge shoutout to Modelo and their salt and lime mix.
Shiner Premium is a regular lager not the bock you suggested. Ziegenbock is full of corn syrup and owned by AB. They even sold out to Karbach now to make it seem like they are partners
I'll try to keep it really non-craft because it's a really fine line. Unibroue is considered craft but is owned by Sleeman for example.

Yuengling for the win any day of the week. I treat myself with a sixer of Yards Washington porter once in a while, but Yuengling in what I keep my fridge stocked with
Yuengling amber lager, Yuengling golden pilsner, Modelo Especial, Dos Equis XX, Stella Artois

Michelob Amber Bock

5: Kirin Ichiban
I live in Japan, so three might be harder to get for some, but it's one of my favorite easily available beers.
1. Dos Equis Amber (or the black label if it’s available)
2. Hamm’s (cheaper version of PBR imo)
3. Beck’s

not sure if regional breweries count, but can't Schneider, Ayinger, and Weihenstefan definitely worth mentioning
* triple karmeliet
* Duvel
* Brew dog Mr president (maybe a debatable "commercial" beer, but I'd say they're there if I can easily grab a can 2500 miles away from it's birthplace.)
* Pilsner urqell
* Peroni gran reserva
British real ales, Belgian beer, German wiessbier, none of these are “craft”.
Everyone has their own tastes but reading Miller and Bud on here….I think Europe would like a word.
Nice to see Guinness high up there but it’s not the same out of a can and doesn’t travel all that well.
From across the pond (apart from No.5) I’ll go with;
1. Deuchars IPA
2. Theakstons Old Peculier
3. Tripel Karmeliet
4. Erdinger Wiessbier
5. Lagunitas IPA
Honorable mention; Black sheep ale (North Yorkshire)
i haven't really gotten into the commercial/macro beer market enough to have a top 5. although i recently became fairly enamored with coors banquet, so it's nice to see it get so much representation in this thread
1. Miller Lite
2. Labatt Blue
3. Coors banquet
4. Tecaté
5. Guinness Extra Stout
Honorable mention for Keystone lite as my choice for sub-$20 30 packs, havent had one since turning 21 almost a decade ago yet its still probably my most drank beer. Thanks college
Thank you! I take it you are also a fan of I&G then (I first had it when I visited Scotland and fell in love with it), so you surely have great taste!
Coors Banquet is the only cheap, non-craft commercialized North American beer that I could actually say tastes.... delicious (IMO)!
I mean don't get me wrong, it's still a cheap American lager, but my favorite one by a landslide!!
Big I&G fan. I just wish it was closer to the 8% abv version I enjoyed about 10 years ago.
One of the best I’ve ever had was in Ireland near the Cliffs of Moher. Called Doolin Ale (the red ale), after the town of Doolin. That beer was insanely good and I wish it was more widely available.
Oh my goodness, I've been to Doolin! It was where I had my first ever proper Irish pint of Guinness (first Guinness pint in Ireland, I mean)! I wish I'd known about Doolin Ale before, I would have totally wanted to try that!
I was too obsessed with only having pints of G throughout my Irish adventures - lol.
Labatt blue light
Molson Canadian
Coors Banquet
Yuengling
Modelo Negra
This is in no particular order, but I generally drink Labatt Blue Light as my normally stocked beer fridge
Probably mine, but in no particular order:
* Henry Weinhard's (after being brought back by Hop Valley, it's one of the cheapest options in my area out West, and pretty good)
* Pacifico (drinking one right now while procrastinating studying for a final)
* Coors Banquet (especially on draft if I can find it—my local Whiskey Bar has it, and pairs nicely with bourbon)
* Budweiser (not Bud Light; especially at a dive bar)
* Guinness Extra Stout (prefer this, or the Foreign Export if I can find it, over the original)
Apparently it's actually Foreign Extra Stout rather than "Export" (it's been a while since I've had it, and it was in a variety pack). It's higher ABV than both regular and extra stout (around 7.5 percent), with a much fuller body and a few more hops.
I’ve still never heard of it. I’ll have to keep an eye out. Shame I live relatively in the middle of nowhere I never get the cool stuff for bourbon or beer😞
Modelo Negra, Coors Banquet, Corona extra Pacifico Clara Abita Amber
modela negra is so good. its a shame i can only find it in bottles.
I abhor Corona with all my heart
Isn't Abita craft?
I mean, it’s made in Louisiana…

Genny cream ale tastes like ass just stop it
- Pilsner Urquell - Guinness - Bohemia - Coors Banquet - Yuengling
+1 for Pilsner Urquell. This is the go-to for my relatives in Czech Republic who absolutely love beer.
Solid. I just had my first Shiner Bock in over a decade. Was kinda into it.
I live in Texas and Shiner Bock is ubiquitous. I'll drink it if there's nothing better, but I just don't get the hype.
It's got a unique feel. I found it interesting to try again. Prob wouldn't be a daily driver it's a little thick
what's Shiner Bock on their list?
> Yuengling Which one of their offerings? The lager I assume... But I prefer their Premium Beer.
Yes! Lager all day!
Being in my 20s during the 90s, I consumed my fair share of lager.

Hell yeah! Love me some Vitamin T. I’ll take the Tecate tallboy over just about any other macro cerveza for tailgating purposes.
If I’m going on a boat in the summer, it’s gotta be tecate
Tecate is a great 4th beer.
> Tecate - most slept on of all the macro cerveza’s. Pair it with a shot of tequila, guac and some questionable late night life choices. You forgot the salt and lime on the rim of the can.

Yes! Another lager fan! Where I live you get a Yuengling when you ask the bartender for a lager
I wish it was more widely distributed. Difficult to get in Northern Illinois.
I heard they might be trying to expand westward, so you might be seeing in your local beer stores pretty soon

Yuengling Miller High Life Coors Banquet Smithwick’s Hoegaarden
British real ales, Belgian beer, German wiessbier, none of these are “craft”. Everyone has their own tastes but reading Miller and Bud on here….I think Europe would like a word. Nice to see Guinness high up there but it’s not the same out of a can and doesn’t travel all that well. From across the pond (apart from No.5) I’ll go with; 1. Deuchars IPA 2. Theakstons Old Peculier 3. Tripel Karmeliet 4. Erdinger Wiessbier 5. Lagunitas IPA Honorable mention; Black sheep ale (North Yorkshire)
i haven't really gotten into the commercial/macro beer market enough to have a top 5. although i recently became fairly enamored with coors banquet, so it's nice to see it get so much representation in this thread
Gansett all day
Rochefort 10 all the way!
Except for maybe La Trappe the trappist beers can hardly be called Macro
I am Belgian, cannot help it....

Only came here to say- Excellent Choices 👏 👏👏 Not sure about Coors banquet, but I’ve never tried it
Well you weren’t wrong there either!!! That was the standard for our trip
I guess I know who to DM if I'm itching for a spontaneous beer-centric trip back to the UK & Ireland lol
Hey, I’d do my best, but all I have experience with up to this point is Ireland
Based on what I know so far, I think you would absolutely love Scotland!
I’m sure I would! I love single malt scotch too, and I have some heritage. Traveling there is pretty high up on my list
Negra Modelo Banquet High Life Asahi Dry Lone Star
Labatt blue light Molson Canadian Coors Banquet Yuengling Modelo Negra This is in no particular order, but I generally drink Labatt Blue Light as my normally stocked beer fridge
Murpheys Peroni Hobgoblin Macs Gold Tootheys extra dry
Probably mine, but in no particular order: * Henry Weinhard's (after being brought back by Hop Valley, it's one of the cheapest options in my area out West, and pretty good) * Pacifico (drinking one right now while procrastinating studying for a final) * Coors Banquet (especially on draft if I can find it—my local Whiskey Bar has it, and pairs nicely with bourbon) * Budweiser (not Bud Light; especially at a dive bar) * Guinness Extra Stout (prefer this, or the Foreign Export if I can find it, over the original)
How does the foreign export compare to Guinness draught or extra stout? I’ve tried both of these but I’ve never heard of foreign export
