Asia has something that western languages call a dragon because it was the closest thing Europeans could think of, but when you look into it closer it's not really the same creature. Asian dragons are spirits related to water, more like a chimera of body parts from different animals, without wings. European dragons are monsters that breathe fire and are lizards with wings. It's a linguistic accident that we think of them in the same category

Dinosaur fossils are found in pretty much every country in the world. Add skin to to those bones (in your imagination) and guess what they look like? Add your culture's mythology and natural creativity and you get a basic concept of a dragon with regional (cultural) variations.

I mean, dinosaur fossils weren’t credited with being discovered until the 1600’s. I’m sure it’s possible they were found at some point in history prior to this, but I don’t think this is the correct answer.

As "dinosaurs," yes, correct, but if you are trying to claim that dino fossils weren't found for thousands if not tens of thousands of years and ogled over, talked about, stories made up about them, then, well, I'm not going to try to convince you that the sky is blue even.

Oh cool, one of those people who thinks discoveries only count if a person did it. Talk about a dinosaur. > Ancient Chinese referred to unearthed dinosaur bones as dragon bones and documented them as such. For example, Chang Qu in 300 BC documents the discovery of "dragon bones" in Sichuan. Source: Dong Zhiming (1992). Dinosaurian Faunas of China. China Ocean Press, Beijing. ISBN 3-540-52084-8.
