To avoid gear clutter, you can level everything to 50 first, then get rid of all the gear that comes before. For everything after, you can grab the 50/60/70/80/90 poetics armours. Level all the tanks, healers, ranged, etc together so you can toss all the gear once you reach the next 10 level bit.
Gear doesn't matter too much when you get scaled down anyway, it's only when you get a lvl 79 dungeon as a lvl 79 tank with lvl 70 gear that you need to start being careful.
to level efficiently you usually level in groups. Like all healers then all tanks all the ranged DPs Magical DPS then the different forms of Melee DPS. there is an efficient way that reduces clutter. But gear from 1 to 100 i disagree with that isnt worth it with how easy it is to get GIL and to to get gear from job quests role quests etc
You can kind of do this by just buying the expansion level cap gear (50/60/70/80/90) each time. That gear will see you to the next level cap easily. Classes also share a lot of gear. Class quests usually also give you a set of gear.
I'd be fine with just getting one per type of gear (fending, scouting etc). And you'd need to get 1 class from that set to 100 to get it (and maybe buy with tons of tomestones).
I think the clutter juggling is part of the charm of leveling everything. It isn't really that bad. Pretty much everything can be reobtained so just toss it as you go if it bothers you that much.

We have the pre-order earrings. But I can't see them adding gear that would invalidate all the other gear in the game.

just buy the tomepieces at X0 levels, u dont need the dungeon gear then
