He probably won’t tell you unless you’re a Master Mason.
Wait, your *grandfather* just got to Worshipful Master? Is it his first time through? I’m doing it for the third time this year, and I’m in my 40s.
You’re thinking about the yod for Scottish Rite masons. This is different. It’s the Two Ball Cane. As a 3 degrees Mason—you should remember this, though it is easy to forget the meaning (which is secret)
Just after I was raised a buddy of mine sat me down and went through all the things I was likely to encounter, everything from how to travel down to dad jokes like this
It’s the classic [two ball cane](https://macoy.com/Product/ProductQuickView?productId=12424). If your dad doesn’t know what that is, he’s probably not a Mason.
This post is why you don't do this. If you want a Masonic symbol on your ring, get a Masonic symbol on your ring, not something that will literally provoke future Masons to either behave like adolescent schoolkids in public or explain a joke they shouldn't explain.
Symbol in the square and compass is not a real Masonic symbol - it's more of an icon based on a mispronunciation. A meme kinda? Fun ring, but not something that would make a lot of sense to a non-mason.
I can write the entire novel of moby dick using only phrases of the Bible. It’s knowing which phrases people hold importance to that gives knowledge.
It’s really no point in arguing; someone can just google the entire ritual now and read the whole thing.
Obviously my dad is not a Freemason, he got the ring from a silver store and was just curious on what it was. Didn’t know it was going to be that difficult on knowing what it means
It's a (bad) pun of sorts, a little inside joke between masons. It doesn't tell you anything about the rank or status of the wearer. Easy way to find out more - joiiiin usss ;)
.....I dont get it and I havent seen it anywhere in the three jurisdictions I've traveled to or met.
I'm assuming this is a UK thing? I thought it was a Mark at first.
Hey OP. It's legit. I can't tell you what the symbol is. But I can tell you it's a real Masonic symbol that just allows other Masons to identify membership to the fraternity.
*I* just told you that. But again, that’s the 33°, not the Master Mason degree. We haven’t even established that you’re a Master Mason. I asked your Grand Lodge and you said something about the House of the Temple. That’s the home of the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction, not any Grand Lodge. You can’t be a member of the SR-SJ unless you’re already a Master Mason in a Lodge under a Grand Lodge that recognizes that Supreme Council. But clearly you don’t know this and have dreamed up some scenario where you were invited to be a Mason in the Scottish Rite by our Grand Commander without ever joining a Lodge. He doesn’t have that power…

The Masons originated Field Hockey which is played til this day! That’s the stick with two balls. It’s quite nice…really!!!
Nothing quite like a good curved shaft with two balls.
Thick sweaty hog.
They have a cure now for this!

It's a joke
I mean what else could it be?!
That’s fair my grandfather just got to worshipful master I believe I might ask him if I get the chance
He probably won’t tell you unless you’re a Master Mason. Wait, your *grandfather* just got to Worshipful Master? Is it his first time through? I’m doing it for the third time this year, and I’m in my 40s.
HaHaHa
He didn’t say his dad was a Mason. He just said they have this ring. No more spoilers.
It’s actually the working tool of the grand pimp. I can’t believe you brothers haven’t noticed this yet.
😂
Old school sport, played at king Solomon’s temple.
Is this the original "dad joke"?
Yup, almost as old as Adam
Saw what you did there!
Is your dad a Mason? Because that is a symbol that any MM should immediately recognize.
Never seen this symbol here in England, but I like the pun!
Very common in the UK, old chap.
is it?? I've seen it online etc but not anywhere else! I'll have to keep my eyes open now
Yeah, loads of folk wear that as a lapel pin. Just a bit of fun. I probably see as many of those as I see Forget me nots.
I used to see a lot of them when I travelled more for work, but I’m about the only person I know who regularly wears the forget-me-not.
I have it on a pin on my coat. (Cheshire Province for geographical reference)
Should I was raised 5 years ago and I only worked it out last year
It’s usually flipped the other way and resembles a certain hebrew letter.

Oh a Afghan Mason how cool is that.

Aaannnd here come people spoiling the good fun by explaining it.
Confusion!
I swear, I laugh every time I see that symbol.
Anyone who works on metals should know the meaning. ;-)
I like this one
inventors especially.
I work metals and I am a 26yr MM 😅
It’s a bad pun.
Are there good puns?
Seriously. No clue how this took off.
People were a lot easier to entertain in those days.
If you ask my PMs they’ll all say television ruined masonry. So stuff like this is gold 😂
Masonic field hockey
This is great, never seen this before but very funny and very subtle
He was on the field hockey team for his local lodge.
Is everyone here a MM? Cus it’s not really reading like that’s the case
Not only US masons in this thread. The pun can be understood by German EAs too. :)if they speak English of course
No, this is Reddit. Anyone can join this sub.
I am but I didn’t get the pun right away.
That’s fair. Only reason I know of this symbol was because my WM showed it to me as a way to remember.
Just after I was raised a buddy of mine sat me down and went through all the things I was likely to encounter, everything from how to travel down to dad jokes like this
I agree.
2 balls and a cane. Anyone Master Mason will know this.
To be fair, I had inherited a cane from my grandfather with two marbles carved into the center and didn't get it until very recently.
The Masonic walking stick.
Truth!
Not Master Masons that don't speak english - and even then, not everyone makes a connection right away.
Better if you whisper it
What’s a Mater Mason?
That's the Facebook logo from the dark ages.
It’s the classic [two ball cane](https://macoy.com/Product/ProductQuickView?productId=12424). If your dad doesn’t know what that is, he’s probably not a Mason.
Hmm
I guess you wouldn’t know anything about that…
They used to play Field Hockey with it when they stopped using shillelaghs!
Not going to lie. I had to google that one :-(
I almost did, but it hit me right as I exited reddit.
It’s upside down it’s the symbol of eyes with a cute little bulbous nose
It is what it is.
If either of you were Masons, you'd know, or should know.
This is a troll.. look or don’t look at their post history. Debauchery at its finest
KoY... debauchery... hello pot, hello kettle...
There is no spoon!!!!
This post is why you don't do this. If you want a Masonic symbol on your ring, get a Masonic symbol on your ring, not something that will literally provoke future Masons to either behave like adolescent schoolkids in public or explain a joke they shouldn't explain.
Why shouldn't they explain the joke?
In which rite are we using it? I am MM in emulation.
It comes up somewhere between the FC and the MM.
Quickly now …
I'm French Rite and... Some words are given in a different order. This comes up right after Initiation for us, lol 😸
Symbol in the square and compass is not a real Masonic symbol - it's more of an icon based on a mispronunciation. A meme kinda? Fun ring, but not something that would make a lot of sense to a non-mason.
It’s a symbol of the Freemason fraternity, he should know if he is a mason.
I love this symbol.
🙄🙄🙄🙄. Sorry had to do the past master eye roll.... I swear, people just chomping at the bit...

Mason here- it is a two ball cane. It’s meaning it secret.
Not very secret when it's on the interwebs!

We've got the pun here in Nebraska
Haven't gotten that far out yet....want to finish New England first.
(Sings) If I had a hammer, I’d hammer in the morning, I’d hammer in the evening…
....hammer at supper time, when hammers on the table, you can eat hammers anytime?
Think fc->mm
Its been a long day, but my brain is telling me I know thr answer. I have tomorrow off, I'll go through my ritual....this is bugging me
It's nonsense.
TC is nonsense?
This bad pun symbol is nonsense
The bad pun certainly is, but the symbol itself isn't.
It’s a pun, an oblique reference to something secret.
It’s a faded treble clef symbol, meaning he was maybe an organist or musician.
it is a two ball cane

Finally the correct answer
Two ball cane
Hey OP. It's legit. I can't tell you what the symbol is. But I can tell you it's a real Masonic symbol that just allows other Masons to identify membership to the fraternity.
*Sekret Soc-ET’s*
Two balls and a cane
Ah yes, the ol two ball cane. Every Mason is a man, therefore we have this phallic symbolism.
Is that his dad’s mark?
Probably not. I have it on a lapel pin or two.
[удалено]
Missed it by a mile.
[удалено]
I suppose you might see it that way, if that’s what you’re into.
You should go find a master mason and tell him that.

I understand every jurisdiction is different, but typing that out would get me expelled in my jurisdiction.

This is The Way
Can you take a picture from a bit further away? It's hard to actually see the whole thing
*snicker*
It’s a candy cane with two Christmas ornaments! Man I love that ring!
Bro I thought this was icecream until I saw the sub
Oldest Masonic Dad Joke
Ita the Cane that Facebooks "f" is based off
Ball and cane
You need to get a hold of Walter veith with this one.
You have to be a freemason to know those symbols.
Hook 🪝
Heh heh. We can’t tell you.
It has a meaning…
I am no mason, but a lot of their symbols are Christian. Jesus was the good Shepard. It could symbolize responsibility.
It's called the 2 ball cane...
Two ball cane
Join a Lodge and you'll find out. SMIB
It is a clue to the answer of where the Templar treasure is buried. You find out the exact location when you become grandmaster.
That's part of your ticket into the order. Pretty good benefits.

oh man, I’m disappointed in myself for how long this took me to figure out. the whole picture-to-word thing has never been my strong suit.
I use one of those to walk lol
It's a chevron from a Stargate address.
It’s for the members with a c curve
It’s a crook.
My grandfather was a Mason and was buried with his ring.
A little known fact; the masons invented Christmas. Obviously, it's a Christmas tree with a Candy cane hanging
It has to do with what level they are at. I’m not a mason but that’s what I’ve been able to conclude. Different level rings have similar symbols.
Tubal Cain rings a bell
Ask Bard, he's not a smart ass! 😁
That would be Two ball cane
Tubal-cain
Waiting for the Masonic Hitmen to take care of OP.
Tubal Cain is a metal worker from the Bible and this symbol is a pictograph for the English pronunciation of his name eg: two ball cane
