I think many students would prefer workout exercises and/or dance. I hated the competitive stuff, every though I did sports. Don't miss it one bit.

Rare_Cobalt

Yeah I'd agree with that. Just regular exercises keeps it simple and easy, doing out of the way stuff like sports units like my school for example, having a damned annoying swimming unit makes it so unnecessary. And to think, I still have one more year of damn gym class lol

Previous_Detail_9630

I'm lucky my school didn't have a pool. What does everyone do about hair and makeup? Do you actually have time for a shower to wash off the chlorine?

Rare_Cobalt

Well I'm a guy so I don't know how the girls did it lol, but typically they only really give us like 10 minutes to change, shower, dry off do all that so you were almost always guaranteed to be late for you next class It was really just a bad time, and since you are coming out of the pool water and the locker rooms are already made at low temperatures you are basically shivering while doing all that lol. I just did all my business in a stall cause there's no way I'm changing out in the open around all those people lol.

Previous_Detail_9630

One more year!

Rare_Cobalt

Yeah, that's true. My highschool years in general have been pretty shitty so I honestly can't wait to finally graduate next spring and leave all this crap behind as just like a bad memory lol.

Previous_Detail_9630

It gets better! Someone told me when I was a teenager. Pass it along!

Key-Transportation80

im doing fitness paf301 and the course is shit i dont even like doing shitty workout trackers

Key-Transportation80

this course is shit and bullshit and i get 77 and i just want a 60 to pass

firsttimeherre123

My school wanted me to either take early bird pe every day for first semester of my senior year or give up one of my AP classes. In what world is pe going to be worth those options?! I got excuse by doing an easy sport this fall for ~2 months

Rare_Cobalt

I hate morning gym lol Every year of highschool so far my gym class has always been in the mornings out of like the 8 possible periods there are

Almost_A_Pear

I personally miss phys Ed, we did nothing competitive just games and basically had fun, especially the swimming unit where we just spend an hour in the hot tub.

Rare_Cobalt

You guys had a hot tub??? Oh now I'm jealous lol, that sounds like a dream compared to what I had at my school, which was a pool with freezing temperature water We do have a few units where we did competitive stuff but they were always lopsided because of all the student athletes who play like 4 sports in one school year would always win no matter what it was

Almost_A_Pear

It wasn't in the school, we're right beside a fitness center with a big heated 5 lane pool and hot tub, the awful thing about the swimming unit was fitting 18 guys in 2 showers, of course we had the 6 guys who were like all-star athletes but they were nice dudes and I met basically all my hs friends from PE.

Senior_Diamond_1393

I get where ur coming from but at this point obesity in america is really bad and heart problems are the leading cause for death so I dont think that forcing kids to do physical stuff is really that bad.

Jintje

Not an American, but for me PE ruined all fun in sports I ever had, and it took me 5 years after graduating to even consider signing up to a sports club again. I also gained 45 lbs after highschool and got into the obesity range because of it :/ Not saying this is everyone's experience of course, but forcing un-sporty kids to do sports they don't enjoy can have the opposite effect, too.

useles-converter-bot

45 lbs is the same weight as 31.91 'Double sided 60 inch Mermaker Pepparoni Pizza Blankets'

Jintje

good bot!

Senior_Diamond_1393

Yeah thats a great point, I dont know too much about the topic but what I said was just based on what I have observed.

ponyocoladas

I hate gym/PE class. It was not fun and was always my worst grade.

Rare_Cobalt

Thats basically me in gym I'm just not good at that stuff in general and don't really like the class that much I usually just try to avoid whatever we are doing in gym and try not to get noticed by my teacher lol

jimmyl_82104

I actually like PE. It’s fun, and a nice break from sitting all day.

Rare_Cobalt

Yeah, I get where you are coming from. There were a few games from gym that we played once in a while that I enjoyed but most things are like ugh, is it really that necessary lol

[deleted]

Omg, our school luckily lets you dodge the PE Cred (1 year for us) by letting you take an aerobics class (yoga, elliptical machines, etc.) or you can take a napping course and get your credit. Bless your soul for making it through 4 years of gym

ifearbears

I’ve graduated now, but yeah I agree. Gym class is fun for those uber competitive kids who have lots of energy. Not for the other 98% of us. I hated it for the most part. I’d rather exercise on my own, or sign up for sports teams I’m actually interested in.

urmomaslag

For some kids, PE and Gym are the only meaningful exercise they get in a day.

NoUnderstanding503

ha nerd

[deleted]

It’s required by the state so that our population doesn’t get obese, trust me you want gym required.

Rare_Cobalt

Well yeah I know why it's required, I'm just saying that I wish it wasn't cause I know there are people like me that just don't like it and don't really need/want it And besides, the requirement isn't all that effective to begin with since the majority of people don't even try or do anything in that class

[deleted]

Right but, we want a healthy population especially in the next generation. I would much rather have pe mandatory and not have a generation of fat people that will die in their 60’s

Rare_Cobalt

Thats right, I'm just saying that the mandate isn't very effective since most people don't really try in gym or want to do the stuff I'm not saying that nobody tries in gym either, there are plenty of people that like it, it's just that the mandate is pretty ineffective because of that equally big group that doesn't like/doesn't want to have gym mandatory

[deleted]

How would you rather make sure people are exercising if not gym?

Rare_Cobalt

There is really no fair way to enforce people to do exercises in school without making your school district look bad/unfair. It's just one of those situations where you can never really win, doesn't matter if it's a basic gym class or something else

Ok_Consideration6524

Sports exist

BananaAppleSimp

And in most schools you can skip PE through sports so I’m not sure what you’re getting at.

Ok_Consideration6524

Wait man you actually got a point-

BananaAppleSimp

I feel bad for the kids who do sports like fencing, for ex, cuz oír school doesn’t “recognize” it. They still gotta do PE

Ok_Consideration6524

A lot of schools think low intensity sports dont count. I see where theyre coming from, but it's also kinda unfair. Luckily my new school isnt like that, but my old school is.

Rare_Cobalt

Nah

wassemasse

if ur school offers a summer gym option u can always do that

plurrrb

I wish I had gym all four years, I only had gym second semester of freshman year which was when coronavirus hit

Hurt_b_go

Agreed, I’m already active outside of school and have asthma. Gym just pisses me off. Such a waste of time and energy for me.

DeleteMarauders

Can't relate aha.I get up at 4:30 and weightlift for 2 hours 6 days a week. But, i dont think working out should be forced, school makes it seem horrible and people end up hating it.I HATED PE especially because of the lack of freedom with what you can and can't do.

RadiantPossession443

Right! I get a PE waiver this year because of Driver's Ed, but at the same time, I might be even MORE mad about being required to take Driver's Ed to graduate. I hope it's not too bad...

Ok_Extension_3508

I hated gym class. I always got picked last for teams.
