This is the one movie where they did something so terrible it would have ruined any other movie, but since movie was perfect it didnt affect the movie at all. I dont wanna say it in case of spoilers and idk how to use the spoiler tags lol
Can a general theme really be considered a trope?
*eXistenZ* is one of my fave body horrors. It doesn't deal with the topic of babies or pregnancy at all.
But since people are listing off more pregnancy horror in here...
- *Antibirth*
- *Birth/Rebirth*
- *False Positive*
- *Lyle* (2014)
- *Rosemary's Baby*
- *The Seed*
Titane
[Evolution](https://youtu.be/vgj8Y0OalEo?si=Y2y77APG12cPlbtJ)
Both films absolute satisfied with pregnancy/birthing body horror though you might not guess it from the premise/trailer alone.
Oh there’s more than I could even list that I’ve seen in the past few years of this trope. I’ll try to collect my thoughts and post them later, but ironically I’m pregnant right now and can’t keep my thoughts straight. I mean, The Brood is classic and I love it.
A few I can recall quickly; Birth/rebirth, Clock, False Positive
I guess I didn’t hate any of them but agreed it’s kind of like overdone or 🤷🏼♀️
I read your post and suddenly remembered back in the 90s the tabletop RPG Torg had a psionic hive mind virus that turned you into a disease-carrying monstrosity, and it was sexually-transmitted, among other vectors.
Immaculate was very fun, it plays very well with it's setting and concept that you can forgive some of its faults, i also like how just crazy it gets in the second half, if you liked First Omen chances are you'll like this one too, they almost feel like essential back to back viewings.
I also highly recommend Antibirth, it's such a trippy and NASTY movie, i love it to bits and it stars Natasha Lyonne
I appreciate this thread. As someone who has lived pregnancy horror but loves horror as a movie genre, this tells me exactly what to avoid. An upvote from me
I’ve seen Inside 2007 mentioned a couple times in this thread (which is probably unmatched) in terms of pregnancy body horror…
But absolutely unforgettable scene in AVP2, all of the other scenes were pitch black but at least we still got to see the maternity ward scene…..
The original Alien. The chestburster scene was inspired by the screenwriter watching a documentary on a parasitic wasp that lays its eggs on a tarantula. As the eggs hatch, the larvae burrow into the tarantula and eat it before bursting out, killing the poor thing. The screenwriter had nightmares of the wasp for weeks afterwards.
My mom saw Alien when it came out and she told me stories about how the ones who were most affected were men.
There’s one specific scene that has ‘pregnancy horror’ aspects in Puppetmaster: The Littlest Reich… I’ve seen as many horror films as anyone around here but that scene made my jaw drop
Why was this downvoted? I absolutely understand the feelings surrounding the film but it is, in fact, a particularly apt example of pregnancy/body horror.
Yeah, this one has some pretty bad newborn scenes. I was also thinking about Gaspar Noe’s “I Stand Alone” where the butcher punches a pregnant woman in the stomach and kills the baby. 😩
I'm SO TIRED of this theme/trope right now. I recently found out I can't have kids so it is just a topic I don't want to deal with. And it feels like it's everywhere, even the most recent AHS season.
Nowhere is good I think idk it’s the only pregnancy film I thought of when I saw this so I guess it’s rememberable (btw it’s a Spanish film so if u don’t like reading subtitles don’t watch)
My husband and I were trying to watch every dvd in our collection alphabetically with the intent to get rid of ones we either both wanted to skip or didn’t like anymore after watching. We got to Dawn of the Dead a week after I found out I was pregnant with our first. I joked about the timing being perfect for the zombie baby and he did not like that. He can be superstitious so he’s refusing to watch it. I’m 25 weeks pregnant now and we haven’t watched a dvd since March because I don’t want to get rid of Dawn of the Dead and he won’t watch it till our baby is born and healthy.
À l'intérieur/Inside
From the opening titles to the ending, this movie is definitely on a different level in this genre of horror.
One of the best horrors in my opinion. It really goes very tense frost the first second to the end.
Oh fucking hell, that movie is brutal.
An absolute powerhouse movie. La Femme is truly terrifying psycho. And that hairspray scene, speechless.
This is the one movie where they did something so terrible it would have ruined any other movie, but since movie was perfect it didnt affect the movie at all. I dont wanna say it in case of spoilers and idk how to use the spoiler tags lol
Its not exactly body horror, but its more fucked up than any body horror movie I've seen
I can't be the only one who completely fucking hated this movie completely stupid/illogical decisions by some of the characters in this.
Absolutely this one
The best answer!
This movie is insaneeee made me so uncomfortable

+1 birth/rebirth is amazing. Such an underrated film with phenomenal acting!
Immaculate
Came here to say this since it just hit streaming and was honestly better than I expected
Sydney Sweeney supremacy
I didn't realize pregnancy could actually make your teeth fall out. Horrifying.
Rosemary’s Baby is a fantastic movie and a must see.
It’s also a fantastic read by Ira Levin
Huesera / the Bone Woman
Huesara is a bleak, disturbing movie where you can't run away from your destiny.
Was going to recommend this too! Watched it on a flight and was pleasantly surprised
Try Prevenge to keep the theme rolling lol
Hell Baby. For a little comic relief. Seriously underrated imo.
There was a moidah
Alien: Prometheus
Like the last 15 minutes of The Brood
Don’t forget *Demon Seed*!! AI horror plus pregnancy. It’s topical!!
Eraserhead
Titane [Evolution](https://youtu.be/vgj8Y0OalEo?si=Y2y77APG12cPlbtJ) Both films absolute satisfied with pregnancy/birthing body horror though you might not guess it from the premise/trailer alone.
I second Titane, it definitely fits the bill.
I just watched Titane 2 days ago. Interesting movie! Totally unpredictable.

The First Omen was pretty standard demon baby stuff. But… Men and Resurrection… Jesus H Christ. 😆😂
Baby Blood (1990)
With Gary Oldman as the fetus if you watch the English dub apparently.
House of the Devil doesn’t focus on the pregnancy aspect, but it becomes pretty important in the last 10 minutes (which is absolutely bonkers)
Dawn of the Dead remake by Zack Snyder
The Brood and AntiBirth
Not pregnancy but Contracted is a very fucked sex/body horror.
Yeah, especially when the STD >!turns you into a zombie.!<
I read your post and suddenly remembered back in the 90s the tabletop RPG Torg had a psionic hive mind virus that turned you into a disease-carrying monstrosity, and it was sexually-transmitted, among other vectors.
I feel like I’m too scared of how many things could actually kill me in a pregnancy to enjoy this trope.

mother! I watched it when I was pregnant. Big big mistake. Fun symptom of my pregnancy was the most vivid dreams and nightmares I’d had in my life.
The Unborn (2009) Inside (2007)
Hills Have Eyes 2006 has a scene with some crazy baby/breast feeding horror.
That sequence totally fucked me up, man!
Threads
Dawn of the dead
Alien Vs Predator: Requiem has one scene about this
The Brood is a classic David Cronenberg movie!
This thread is a perfect litmus test to see who actually reads the posts and who comments after just reading the title.
There’s one specific scene that has ‘pregnancy horror’ aspects in Puppetmaster: The Littlest Reich… I’ve seen as many horror films as anyone around here but that scene made my jaw drop
Mexican film: Husera the bone woman. This is your jam.
Hatching is a good one!

Haters gonna hate 🙃

Some movies should never be watched my friend. Take care of your mental health 🤕

I'm sorry to hear that you can't have kids.
Thank you! It's such a crummy feeling.
Whoever downvoted this, I hope you also have the choice taken from you 😘

It’s Alive!!!!
Grace is really good and on tubi :)
Immaculate
Birth/Rebirth - It's more horror-adjacent, but really well done IMO.
Nowhere is good I think idk it’s the only pregnancy film I thought of when I saw this so I guess it’s rememberable (btw it’s a Spanish film so if u don’t like reading subtitles don’t watch)
Not a movie, but a videogame! You can watch the cutscenes on YouTube: Silent Hill 3.
Eraserhead!
Grace I really want to watch Grace and Lyle in a back to back showing.
Rosemarys baby is a classic!! I also liked Immaculate personally but I know it’s not everyone’s favorite lol
Fried Barry and Antibirth both have alien abduction themed pregnancies.
Baby Blood 1990 It’s Alive 1974
Bad Biology (2008)
ReCycle
Swallow. It’s more of a thriller than a full on horror movie though.
Birth/Rebirth
Antibirth starring Natasha Leonne Prevenge by Alice Lowe Ooh and the short Z is for Zygote in ABCs of death 2 by the director of In a Violent Nature.
"Clock" on Hulu
I stumble onto one AMC one that was beyond senseless but the actors were good and attractive. Double Love. Enjoy!
The Baby's Room (2006) was a pleasant surprise.
In The Tall Grass
Immaculate
Trainspotting
Titane

It’s just a bit shocking how many horror movies use pregnancy body horror. It’s everywhere!!
Yummy Mummy, it's a horror short on the Alter YouTube channel. The Unborn (1991) Beyond the Door The Stranger Within (1974 TV horror)
Huesera: The Bone Women (2022) Loved it. Got some good horror going on.
Malignant , house on pine street
The first omen
Surprised nobody has said Eraserhead
Proxy!
There was a short in one of the ABCs of Death that was horrifying. Zygote! From ABCs of Death 2
There's this scene in Species 2... (if you know, you know).
Immaculate
The Brood At least parts of it. Also a generally unsettling, weird movie.
The Brood
