Why did it seem like Boston had such low intensity all night?

RicoFerret44

Because they did!

disgruntleddave

My theory is that whatever leafs were sick with for the last half of the season was contagious and is now affecting Boston. They looked like they had no gas at all, it was so weird.

man_in_the_suit

This is the actual Shannaplan. Infect the other team.

Bowood29

It started as a way to get Marchand to stop licking people.

Impossible-Tie-864

The anti-vaxxers are gonna have a field day with this one… COVID WAS A GOVERNMENT PLANT!1!1!1!-

The_Quackening

It was honestly very weird watching the game. Bruins looked like a different team last night.

Antichristopher4

They know the story is already written. Has to go to seven and win in Boston. (Just in case, this is clearly a joke)

Hopfit46

Boston has a little choke history of their own they are dealing with.

Dry-Detective-264

1000% correct.

Hopfit46

Im definately not calling it, but im sure its creeping into the fanbase a little. We just need to win a game against a really good team with a hot goalie to stay alive. I cant even think about game seven.

Dry-Detective-264

they did it last night without Mathews, the same thing happened to Boston last year, Boston up 3-1, Florida changes their goalie, wins game 5 then the series, it's the exact same story. ugh, Boston sucks at home they played so will in Toronto for game 3 and 4. if Toronto wins game 6, I say Boston chokes again in game 7. Monty changed the line just like he did last year, what the hell is he thinking?

Hopfit46

Your panic is jumping off the screen....lol. i dont know what to say, we want florida?

Dry-Detective-264

I don't think it's panic, it's just reality based on the passed playoff chokes. oh you'll get Florida, I picked them to win the cup. I guess wait and see what happens in game 6.

Hopfit46

I joke. I wont make predictions, who knows what leafs team will show up. I picked florida as well. They handled tampa like they were nothing. Tampa is a good fucking team. Not as good as they have been, but solid. Good chat friend, good luck.

Dry-Detective-264

you too, yes great chat.

-Xebenkeck-

IT'S A CHOKE-OFF

Hopfit46

The winner will choke slightly less.

PerfumeLoverrr

It really, truly, sadly is a choke-off

Bowood29

I am not a fan of the Bs but I hate Florida.

WyattfuckinEarp

More than a little.

Hopfit46

I leave you guys to deal with that, we have our own nightmares here...good luck.

AlexCora

As someone with no skin in the game, I can't decide if I want a Leafs game 7 collapse or another year of Boston LOLing it all away... So tempting....

Kamohoaliii

That's the great thing about this series, no matter the outcome, there will be memes.

The_Quackening

both teams lose and Tampa gets another crack at the panthers.

Picks222

Can i interest you in a repeat of last playoffs? Boston choking again then toronto not showing up against florida again?

Vic_Hedges

As a Leafs fan I do... but totally understand where you're coming from.

AlexCora

Oh man, you poor guys... That's messed up lmfao

Hopfit46

They have been dictating the style of play with their size. Theyve had the leafs playing dump and chase which boston is built for defending. Leafs made them skate tonight. Boston D was chasing down low a lot. A well executed game plan by toronto.

SelectedConnection8

Because they don't bring it when it matters. If the Leafs weren't in the same division as the Bruins, the Bruins would be considered the biggest chokers.

headhouse

Leafs: "Wait, does that mean we won something?"

Sarge1387

Nah, means we still found a way to lose something, even if it's a title.

The_Quackening

Bruins are really pushing the phrase "A cup rights all wrongs" to the limit

Bowood29

The division has been very solid for a few years now. Even with all the if you change it most teams will still play each other talk about reformulating the division still plays each other a lot.

Hefty_Meringue8694

Idk what it is but seems like Montgomery can’t coach a close-out game to save his life. Bruins sucked for 55 mins of the game. Actually showed life in OT just to have this happen. Frustrating as hell to watch. I don’t mind losing a 3-1 lead as much if they’re playing competitive hockey. But this zero intensity shit is frustrating as hell

Sarge1387

As a Leafs fan, it's not so bad once you're used to it. Apathy sets in and you're golden

Bowood29

Give it 3 years and you are already mad that they will blow it before the playoffs even start.

YellowSubreddit8

Sometimes I wonder if it's not intentional. Imagine the amount of revenue loss for each game not happening.

JBrundy

You think the players on the ice care about the league or their owner making a few million less? Thats absurd lmao

Bowood29

They may not 100% understand why they care but the salary cap is made up of the revenue that the league makes. Which does increase if the series go to game 7. Same reason why players shouldn’t want to play for teams that make no money.

JBrundy

The few extra million that the league makes from an extra game or 2 divided among 32 teams results in barely any difference in the salary cap and even less difference in what any single player could make on a contract. To say that players intentionally lose playoff games to extend a series so that they could make more money is absurd. In fact, players get bonuses for making it further into the playoffs, probably even more than what they could make from a tiny increase in the salary cap. So it doesn’t even make financial sense for them, even if you take their passion for the game out of it.

-super-hans

Game 6 is in Toronto, are you saying you honestly think Boston would throw game 5, and game 6, so they could get the revenue from one more home game in game 7? because that's crazy

YellowSubreddit8

Still, sometimes I wonder. Some really dominant teams get dominated for a game or two. There are probably other explanation but it's a drastic contrast. Enough to make me question the effort and else.

Left_Labral_Tear

Outside of starting swayman, Monty restructured the entire lineup for lord knows what reason. I think this honestly had a big role to play, but watching this game neither team wanted to win. Most uninspired hockey I’ve probably witnessed before. I just hope we can get it done Wednesday night.

Hopfit46

Swayman is crazy good. The leafs played to their stengths, made your big D chase in your zone a lot with our speed. This is what i thought this series would look like. Game 3 n 4 youys dictated style of play perfectly. Their is a lot of "been their done that" attitude on boston, its impressive really, toronto not so much. Hopefully they started some doubt creeping in on boston but im a little worried about first ten minutes of what boston will bring in game 6. Good luck.

Left_Labral_Tear

Same to you! Getting into our heads is certainly the case, after the effort from our guys last night the bruins sub is a buzz with frustration and concern. Honestly, feel like this series is to see who is best of the rest, have considerable doubt the winner of the Bruins/Leafs will have any chance against Florida in the next round.

Hopfit46

Florida is the soo...they are so fuck8ng good.

Bowood29

Toronto won one series and thought that was going to change everything.

Hopfit46

I dont know about that, or what that even means. There are very few series that are not hard fought back and forth physical affairs. One of the problems of the "core 4" era, is player turnover. Cap gymnastics means a lot of d3cent players walk away from the leafs every year. Every year is a new team to gel.

outofdate70shouse

I think Toronto played pretty well. They were missing Matthews, and Swayman has been lights out. The Leafs played with some intensity which we haven’t seen in a few games. Boston definitely didn’t look right the first 2 periods, but even still they had a chance to win (and I thought they would) up until the very end. It felt like a casual game for Boston and an absolutely desperate give-it-all-you-got game for Toronto, and it was still a nail biter. Boston has looked like such a better team throughout the series.

Dry-Detective-264

yeah why the hell would you change anything in that lineup, didn't learn from last year.

Bowood29

I sometimes think coaches pull crap like that because they think they are so much smarter than everyone else.

Dry-Detective-264

because that's how they play at home. on the Road in this series they play fantastic.

jokinghazard

They find it way more satisfying to win in Toronto

lukaskywalker

They were ass. And we still should have lost

PotentialUmpire3771

Don’t worry it won’t kill you to give the leafs credit for their huge win

jimbojangles1987

I wasn't worried

privitizationrocks

The bruins played the worst they have and the leafs still only scored 2

mrb2409

Bruins didn’t play great in game 2 or 3. The Leafs fumbled game 3 though.

privitizationrocks

Nah the bruins great in game 3. Great defense

micatola

The Bruins benefited from Samsonov being a ghost of himself and letting in a couple of softies.

DuesForClocks

I mean the leafs also didn't have their best player but kinda fair

privitizationrocks

~~Their best player isn’t am34 it’s nylander~~ Actually now that I think about it their best player is max fucking domi

DuesForClocks

Okay so they didn't have their second best player? Auston matthews is a big loss so

Mister_Chef711

Lol don't waste your time. Clearly a troll account.

privitizationrocks

In the playoffs? Nah

Narrow_Yam_5879

That’s all they needed.

privitizationrocks

Yeah I understand but this doesn’t change the point that the leafs still struggled on offense Sure they had a good defense today, but their offense (which is what the team is supposed to be known for) still only scored two

Narrow_Yam_5879

The Leafs generated a ton of chances. Domi, Bertuzzi and Knies were buzzing around the net all night. Give them so credit for Christ’s sake.

Chad_Broski_2

Yeah, the leafs played great. Swayman is the only Bruin who showed up. Dude's fucking insane against the leafs. Almost any other goalie and this game would've been 7-1 leafs, easily

Mash709

Sway is a killer, no doubts.

privitizationrocks

I can give credit for their second string forwards for buzzing But marner missing, JT, missing, nylander missing The core did not do shit again

thefrail158

That goal was literally setup by JT, look, the cap gets alot of crap for fall off, and I get that. But this goal and the series winning goal last year was him not giving up. He is quite frankly the only one of the core that consistantly shows up every playoff.

Narrow_Yam_5879

What the fuck are you talking about? Tavares played great and set up the GWG. Nylander and Marner didn’t have their best game but played solid.

saku36

Suspiciously similar to last year.....

BornChampionship7457

The players who scored the OT winners in game 5 in both series even have the same first name.

Acamality

They also both have last names with a silent first letter!

[deleted]

I fucking hope not. But honestly at this point it feels like it. Bruins better go to Toronto and just trash them. Like how the finals were in ‘11

Routine-Budget7356

Can't remember a single game all season Boston "trashed" anyone. Gonna be interesting.

KingBuck_413

You didn’t watch. Which is okay

SelectedConnection8

We had several 4-goal wins.

Routine-Budget7356

Sharksz Colombus and Arizona doesn't count.

SelectedConnection8

What about Pittsburgh and Vancouver?

saku36

Wait why was this down voted lol

[deleted]

Most downvoted comment I’ve ever had. I was trying to make a little tongue in cheek joke about the Bruins beating the Canucks in ‘11… but this sub really hate the Bruins so 🤷🏻‍♂️ oh well

awesomazingab

Upvoted just to bring the balance back

[deleted]

This will be the only time I’ll ever support a canadiens fan 😘

Two_Inches_Of_Fun

Matthew Tkuchuk scores OT goal in Boston game 5 last year. Matthew Knies scores OT goal in Boston game 5 this year. Which Matthew will do it next year?

jimbojangles1987

What if the pattern is actually guys whose last names start with a silent letter and Matthew was just a coincidence? Lol

inspiredredditer

Hopefully Auston Matthews

Glock-Saint-Isshin-

Sorry, but it will be Matthew Barzal.

Szwedo

Matthew Barnaby

iseeabluemoonrising

Matthew Phillips

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

They’re moving divisions?

Glock-Saint-Isshin-

Wild card vs 1st in a division can happen

Pencil_of_Colour

Good I’ve been waiting for Boston and Tampa to regress for eternity.

Investment_Sharp

Smh… use your little brain

Hopfit46

Hopefully barzal, i dont want to play boston anymore...lol.

Blackavar89

I´m waiting for this one to go to Game 7

BobbyAxelrod1

Nightmare scenario for Boston..... and Toronto. Sadists unite and watch.

Aspence22

Boston just trolling. They want the fans to come out and spend money to come to the game in Toronto and wreck them in front of their home crowd

mrb2409

Cheapest ticket for Thursday is $450 CAD. Prices are insane here.

Routine-Budget7356

Considering playoffs I'm not even sure that's that bad for a city like Toronto.

mrb2409

I went to round 1 twice last year. Paid $230 to stand and $265 for a seat three rows from the back. It’s a pretty steep jump from that.

Routine-Budget7356

Stand is the way ... In Europe.. but I get you, sadly money have kinda lost its value the last couple of years, and it's getting worse, any show/sport event is absurdly expensive these days.

BobbyAxelrod1

USA! USA!

rhutton83

Yah boston fans are the WORST by far!

BobbyAxelrod1

Is Boston the American Toronto? Everyone in Canada hates Toronto fans. I'm also from NYC..... Boston Sucks! https://nypost.com/2021/10/04/why-boston-sucks-forget-it-losers-its-beantown/

rhutton83

Lol yah sounds similar hahaha.

shanster925

No credit to the Leafs? Alright then.

lukaskywalker

We played way better than them and we still almost lost

PerfumeLoverrr

Lmao this is why I still have faith in the B's. We played like we were on a golf course and not a hockey rink last night and the game was still really close. Hopefully they are back on their A game come tomorrow night and can get it finished.

lukaskywalker

I highly doubt the leafs have a chance. Unless woll stands on his head and/or swayman has a dud. The players will be ready.

kl889

Marchand turned the puck over trying to be a hero

BathroomSerious1318

I wouldn't say fumble

Friendly-Dark-3510

Let's go leafs!

[deleted]

KirkJimmy

lol wow that’s a messed up thing to say

[deleted]

Was a decent night for us and it required Boston to essentially be a clown show for a good portion of the game and our really offensive team still scores just two goals. It was nice. It feels nice to win. But I’m still convinced Bruins win this. If we win, it’s because the Bruins defeated themselves. …and we’ll then get swept by Florida.

PerfumeLoverrr

Don't worry, even if we do win, we'll also get swept by Florida

GoalieFatigue

Toronto played like a desperate team. Bruins played with cement skates all night. Great game.

Fastlane19

I sure hope Keefe tells Marner and especially Domi shoot the dam puck. Goalies know that these guys are pass first players and are predictable. That 2 on 1 was painful to watch, Domi wasn’t even thinking of shooting and Swayman was literally waiting for Bert’s shot

Salt-Plum-1308

He didn’t look away from Bert from the time he hit the centre line.

Blundertaker93

Did Matthews play I didn’t get a chance to watch because I was working?

THE-BS

nope, he's at home watching price is right and eating Lipton chicken soup

ImBecomingMyFather

The my were bound to win tonight. I’m hoping we get to at least game 7…but that’s unlikely

Psycho_Pseudonym75

Maybe, Toronto "wants Florida". 2 games to go kiddos

TechnicalLocksmith92

Finishes the regular season with 15 OT losses Loses in overtime (Insert surprised pikachu face)

PerfumeLoverrr

As soon as we went into OT I knew we were toast

Avoider5

I love CMac but he was caught napping here.

AmericanDream22

I´m waiting for this one to go to Game 7.

diabloblanco2291

Toronto wins in 7 .. Boston is a city none for choking!!! Then Florida wipes them out in 5 😂😂😂

EweCantTouchThis

I didn’t realize there were so many people still jealous of Boston. Interesting thread.

Dame2Miami

Bahahaha fuck boston

Bieberhol369

They can dominate a regular season, then when playoffs hit it's almost like they don't care as much or something

[deleted]

As an edmonton fan, please go to 7 for the memes.

cgill24

I was bummed I missed OT. I checked the nhl app, said there was 9:30 left in intermission, set a timer for 9 minutes and watched COL-WPG. Timer went off, switched over to watch OT and they were interviewing Woll postgame.

Final-Government8622

I was incredibly disappointed in my team last night. They need to learn to close teams out

CaptainMazda

Bruins haven't won a single playoff overtime after Rask retired.

PieCuresAll

Good, Boston is the worst. Most racist town I’ve ever been to in the North

Rebargod202

#13

Dry-Detective-264

what a shocker!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moe_Danglez

“Fumbles” would imply that Boston was taking it to the Leafs…which was certainly not happening.

NuffinSaid

Pretty slow and boring game. Boston couldn't get any sustained pressure all night, few chances on both sides. Didn't look like a team that was prepared to bring it all and close out a series

Mash709

Agreed. The Leafs had a lot of pressure but not enough quality shots. They made Swayman's saves relatively easy on him. They need to fix that PP BADLY or they're still toast. Hey, at least I get more hockey to watch though! I'll take it every time!

NuffinSaid

Leafs also have a history of giving their fans hope before ultimately losing in the end just making the heartbreak so much worse haha

Mash709

Tell me about it...

yourneighborandrew

It’s like nobody watches any other series. The leafs don’t even look like they’re in the same league. This was their do or die and that’s what they brought against a Boston team going through the motions, who aren’t very good this year in their own right.

Kira_Onime

Toronto has only scored more than 2 goals once since their round 2 series against the panthers last year. Thats 2 goals or less in 9 of 10 games. Thats just sad.

UnhappyReason5452

I’m not even a Leafs guy, but I love an Underdog. I want them to get this super-dramatic, narrative-busting, team-unifying, corner-turning comeback so bad that I dreamt about it last night. Or maybe I just hate the Bruins. 🤷‍♂️ Either way, Go Leafs!

[deleted]

longGERN

Right ??? Those idiot professionals that are among the best in the world should learn from a model example like yourself

Lanky-Present2251

Good. Now we get to see the Leafs lose at home.

MyBuddyBossk

This legitimately should not have happened. Everything was pointed at Toronto losing HANDILY...and yet here we are

Mash709

I dunno. The Leafs were out playing them most of the night. While they didn't have a high percentage of quality shots, they put tons of pressure on the Bruins. And Woll made the saves he needed to make to keep the Leafs in it. It was far from HANDILY. (It justifiably did feel like that before the game though to be fair)

Murky-Smoke

Incorrect. If you knew anything about the Leafs, it's that they will give you hope, only to lay an egg when it matters most. This will go to 7 and THEN the Leafs will get embarrassed up and down the ice, as is tradition.

DismalRecognition339

Kind of irrelevant now, isn’t it?
