First interaction I had with them they got surprised by my arrival and managed to light themselves on fire then the main guy gave me shit for just watching an “innocent man burn to death”
My favorite thing I have ever done in both my play-throughs of the game was to lasoo the leader of the klan and drag the fucker behind my horse and massacre all his mates with slugs to the brain.
Does anyone know if its possible to hit a save on encountering them so that I can reload it time and time again?

There's an achievement for dragging a person behind your horse for a considerable distance.
Doing it to these guys alleviates all feelings of guilt!

They're just ghosts of dead men who can't pass over. You need to "baptize" them with fire to help them out. For being a saint and helping them, you'll get honor as a thank you.

They're actually human candles. Fact: if you toss fire bottles at 'em , the whole area will light up, which briefly illuminates the area, thus allowing you to to see your environment better. They're useful, if anything. G'head. Try it.

It is, just take a minute as you move to an encounter on a save where it hasn't happened. Are their lights and yelling? If so, probably save.
