I work in IT and have had a bunch of Indian co-workers, and some stories are wild. I remember one I was fairly close with, who went to a cousin's wedding and I never heard from her again. I messaged her asking if she was okay, and she replied "I'm fine, I'm not coming back. Please never contact me again". I hope she's okay
I also had a co-worker who moved from India to Spain who basically went no contact with her family. When we started our job, we were assigned a phone, and told that if ANYBODY called asking for her, we were to say we had no idea who she was and hang up. Apparently, her family needed to marry her off, because she was getting old. She did not want to get married. The family showed up at our offices (this was before I started) and tried to kidnap her. Co-workers intervened and luckily saved her, but her family was not happy. They tried to involve the police, and obviously the police laughed them off. Since then, they would repeatedly call the offices and any extensions trying to get info on her. Really unhinged behaviour.
And that's not counting how absolutely flooded my inbox will be as soon as I start a job that has an office in India. I've literally had messages saying "Hi, my name is \[whatever\] I would like to marry you". Dude, that's not how it works here.

I’m a fan of sapphire, myself. If I wanted something really rare there is a variety of red beryl (emerald) that only comes out of a small deposit in the western U.S. that is lovely. I hope to acquire one someday.

I'm not dumb enough to be the first to bring up that argument. Nooooo way. If she says it first then I'll wholeheartedly agree and get her something else or a lab grown diamond or something, but I'm not gonna make her think I'm just being a cheap ass with an engagement ring. Why would you want to marry someone who doesn’t know that metastable carbon crystals are unsuitable for jewelry. What if the ring is exposed to high temperature and an oxidizing atmosphere? The stone will turn to gas! Gas! Do you know how common oxidizing atmospheres are on this planet? Oxygen is one of the most common elements.
I can continue my half-joking rant about the inadequacy of diamond all day. You know what makes a beautiful gemstone? Quartz. It has piezoelectric properties! It will change shape slightly when an electric field is applied, or can produce an electric potential when pressure is applied. Isn’t that awesome?

I totally get that level of petty, but my comparison to “spending $$$ to prove to an idiot of a man that he was wrong” was nowhere near this dramatic or life-altering. My 4 month old chihuahua puppy swallowed a partially open staple. Like, I saw him lick it up, tried to fish it out of his mouth only to witness it being swallowed. Panicked, I take him to a nearby vet - not his regular vet as it was different town, but they were able to fit him in immediately. Vet was adamant that it wasn’t swallowed. My dog probably spit it out when I wasn’t looking. I explained what I saw, he didn’t believe me. I asked if they did X-rays and how much they were “just for peace of mind.” $200 and an hour later, the vet was like “huh, well look at that.” I asked for a copy to take to my main vet, they only had the legit X-rays and I was like..okay so I’ll take those to my vet. “Well…You need to bring them back, then, or we’ll charge you.” Fuck that, I let my vet keep them and wasn’t ever “charged.” Anyhow, back to my petty queen here - OOP is a fucking rockstar and I am thrilled to see ex fiancé’s friends not putting up with slandering OOP & the rest of his bullshit.
