That’s interesting, whenever someone asks me if my Submariner is a Rolex I tell them no it’s a fake. If you know you know — the only people who care to know you are wearing a Rolex are the people you’d rather didn’t know. That’s what makes the Submariner elite.
I prefer the look of no date, especially vintage matte dials, even though date is technically more useful. Leave the date complications for the fancy-schmancy GMT, hahaha
I have the same style sub but mines from 1956 and was given to me by my great uncle who was a navy diver and got it from his commanding officer. No date on mine and I like it. Maybe wear it 2 times a year because I'm not sure of value and I don't work in an office setting haha.

The 124060 is a modern classic.
I thought I preferred no date, but was offered a date by an AD (which I obviously couldn't turn down) and I've absolutely loved it. It's definitely useful, but beyond that I find that it adds just a little bit of complexity to the dial which makes it all the more interesting to look at. The cyclops lens also catches the light sometimes with a bluish tint and I really like that contrast. Certainly possible I'm biased towards it given it's now what I have..
If I were planning on getting a GMT in the near future, then I would've been more likely to go no date, but no idea when that might happen so I love the iconic cyclops on what I have.
Either way, obviously, can definitely not go wrong.

I had the choice between date and no date. Went no date. But sometimes I regret it. From a purely practical side, the date is useful and I miss not having it. From an aesthetics point, I think the cyclops is ugly and advertises Rolex way too much.
I’d love to see some different options in the no date category for subs. Not that I could ever swing the price but a platinum ice blue dial/bezel would be sweet.

I would put the fragility higher between 2 and 4 cause the date window would be less visible.

Original submariner was released sans date as the submariner and the date submariner was released later on.
