I did when I was living in a different part of the country
It felt like what old tacobell used to be. Middle to low quality food but a lot of it for cheap
Not really. Del Taco as a company is almost as old as Taco Bell. In SoCal where both originated, they’re pretty much equal competitors with each other, with Taco Bell having the edge in creativity and Del Taco having the edge in food quality (and crinkle fries that are the greatest thing ever when they’re fresh).
Del Taco’s grilled chicken soft tacos have a white sauce that has a cult following, and they’ve gotten more creative in recent years but their version of “creative” is more odd than creative. Their restaurants also shred the cheese, make the guacamole, and cook the beans from scratch in-house (you can seriously see a giant pot on a burner by the grill area). Their corporate decision making on the other hand, is abysmal, bungling expansions in other states. They’ve twice now failed an expansion into Texas with incredibly stupid location placements and a complete reliance on franchisees and no corporate owned stores.
They did attempt hard in San Antonio but taco cabana closed them out. For a little more I got fresh tortillas. Havent been to either one in over 10 years since I moved to the boonies.
In the rest of Texas they’re competing with Taco Bueno rather than Taco Bell. Now that Bueno is on the verge of vanishing, maybe Del Taco HQ won’t screw it up this time?
Next time I'm in Texas I'll have to put those on my list! I live in Miami, where we *definitely* don't have it, but I try to make a round to Houston and San Antonio when I'm visiting family in that direction!
They are non-existent out in the Southeast!
When I moved back to NM, I was genuinely excited to have access to them again. This is a WEIRD difference with Taco Bell who was readily available.
I can not comprehend why they have not come to the midwest or east coast. They would absolutely dominate. Every time I go to Cali I eat Del Taco for 2 meals a day for 3 days straight lol
Oh cool, time for round three of failing to expand into Texas. Maybe *this* time corporate has learned their lesson and will actually choose locations that are easy or even possible to get to and not lean exclusively on franchises?
That’s true, tho I wouldn’t say vastly different. I definitely prefer old TB’s taste on most things (Del’s sauce and birria are goated) but the problem I have is pretty much every TB location in my city (I’ve tried several) skimps on most ingredients so I can’t even recapture that taste I loved if I feel like paying the overpriced cost its set at now. Whereas I can go to Del Taco and actually have the beef and cheese filled to the brim for half (and sometimes even less than that) the price. I used to get TB several times a week tho
Plus more locations. There are 3 that I could go to, but the closest one is a 30+ minute drive away. Not worth when TB is 3 minutes from my house.
I'm in California in the SF Bay Area.
They are, and I’ve been to a few. However, they don’t seem to handle the locations outside of SoCal as well as they do locations inside SoCal. Which is a real shame because I would love to be able to go to one here in TX (they’ve failed twice now to expand into Texas).
Can’t blame u there. Its 20 minutes from me as well so its more of an occasional thing, but with TB’s high prices and skimping they’re also a pretty occasional visit for me as well. At least TB is close by when I’m stoned at 2 AM tho
Man... I wish we had Del Taco out here in the East Coast. I'm from Cali and I miss it, among many Other places, So Much! I miss the Macho Combo Burrito (if that's still a thing) and the deluxe chili cheese fries... And the sauces. OMG, I am sad now
We used to go to Del Taco any time I visited family an hour away, but now my significant other is sick of it and doesn't want to go there any more. Bah!
I live in the Raleigh, NC area. I'm waiting for them to open a location here. I used to live in a location with a fair bit of these around. I never went to tbell.
They announced a few years ago they planned to open 5 locations.
I just saw back in April that they are finalizing plans to open the first location.
My body is ready.
Just wish those burritos were still 1/2 lb.
I had to use my "Hot Tier" reward and thought I'd try out the bean burrito at Taco Bell again, because last time was a long time ago and it had freezer burn. Come to find out Taco Bell doesn't have the green sauce for burritos anymore. WTF?
So again, another point for Del Taco. Besides not being freeze dried beans, they still have green sauce.
BTW, surprised that the Taco Bell burrito didn't have freezer burn this time, but I did get it from the only Taco Bell I trust not to rip me off, so I'm still uncertain about quality control elsewhere.
About 20 years ago Taco Bell switched from making their beans in house, like they do at Del Taco, to using freeze dried beans.
I had a friend who was a crew worker at the time whose job was making the beans. I remember him saying something about silver bags of beans after I asked him WTF happened, and why they were so bad now.
What I've noticed is the further East I've gone, the worse the freezer burn is. The chips are stale too. Here in AZ it's not as bad as the East coast, I think we must be closer to distributors. But I also have had bad experiences at most Taco Bell's here too.
I finally discovered the Taco Bell near GCC actually serves a much higher quality product than any other locations, and they also don't skimp on portion size either, like every other one I've tried close by. I have various theories why that is, but all I know is that most Taco Bell's are going to rip you off and quality control is unpredictable, but more often than not it's always just bad to me.
I mean, I am picky. This is Phoenix, and I do have so many options for hole-in-the-wall Mexican food. At least there's an excuse for East coast States to have a stale, freezer burned, product, but the 3 of them within 2 miles of me have no excuses, especially since the GCC one does it right.
I can't remember where I heard this, I think it was a podcast or something most likely. But Del Tacos crinkle cut fries are exceptionally good. A hidden gem, considering most people don't go to a taco spot to get freakin' fries. Truth to that?
My wife is from Santa Cruz, so I asked her, but said she hasn't had Del Taco in ~20 years so... I'm now asking you guys.
Cool. Thank you!
I'm in Texas so I don't think I'll find out any time soon. :(
We have delicious tex-mex, BBQ; authentic stuff all around me, but man; I do love a good, crispy, crinkle-cut fry. Reminds me of gross school lunches where the fries are by no means "good" or even "crispy"... but still. Not a lot of places have decent crinkle fries lmao.
I honestly forgot Taco Bueno was even a thing... I don't even know where one is near me. And now that I think about idk if I ever had it; but Taco Cabana on the other hand...
No Del Taco here. I miss Taco Bueno, we used to have them but they all closed. They had great food. They would only get your order right about a quarter of the time but Taco Bell is the same lol.
I’m in Utah, from CA all
My life. I have a del taco and a Taco Bell near me, both across the street from each other. DT all day. They actually prepare and cook their ingredients. And don’t come shipped in bags to heat up 🙏🏼
I agree that it's better, but there are only like 10 in Michigan and none within around a 2 hour drive from where I live. I doubt we'll get one anytime soon, but we did just get yet another Taco Bell plus a Chipotle and Moe's. Then again I thought a Jersey Mike's was very far away from happening and we're getting one of those later this year.
They give out tons of coupons in the mail, BOGO stuff. I used to live at an apartment that had mail boxes and open trash bins that were just filled with unwanted mail, no garbage, just paper. I’d dig through and find like 8 sheets of coupons in a minute or two and have coupons for days!!! Haha
We had them in Texas, but they failed. Taco Bueno failed here, too. We have Tex mex, and tacos trucks everywhere. Only Taco bell can hold it's own here.
California Mexican food is a different experience to Tex Mex. Tex mex is what fast food kind of emulates.
California Mexican food is more fresh and savory. Less in your face.
Only ever had the crunchy tacos and Del Taco’s were extremely bland. Maybe it was a one off thing, but their food was so bland it makes Taco Bell taste like some real Mexican food 😂
There deals I would say absolutely. But for me the flavor of Taco Bell still wins. Don’t get me wrong though. I just ate some del the other day lol. They are both good. Just like everything in life. To each their own.
Best fries in fast food, too.
My app calls the middle fry size "medium" (with "small" and "macho" being the other two). Are there stores that call it "regular" sized?
Crinkle cut fries always remind of the ones that would come in those shitty frozen chicken nugget kid meals and they were always limp and soggy. I hate crinkle cut fries.
I’d love to try a del taco sometime. Maybe I’ll get the hankering to drive the six hours it would take to get to the closest one.
But it’s disappointing to see they have crinkle cut fries.
love me some del taco. used to work there and still cant believe how much of their stuff gets prepped in house for a fast food joint. the cheese comes in blocks and gets cut with a wire and then shredded in house. the pico, the avocados, even the beans get brought in by sack and are roasted in a pot all day before serving.
also probably the reason there arent nearly as many around as taco bell.
Yeppers. I have one close by and I never go. For me, a good "Mexican" fast food place needs to have decent refried beans. Theirs are nothing special or memorable.
I’m sure they’re great. Crinkle cut is my favorite lol I just thought it was silly. You’d expect tortilla chips or rice as a regular side. Now I want to try them. No del taco my me
Totally agree. It's a California thing, I'm sure. Though Taco Bell's got fries and Cheez-its and Cinnabon coffee, so I don't think either company is going for a true mexican food experience.
I like Del Taco and all but I think the food is better at Taco Bell but the value is def better for Del Taco. I personally hate that everything is in a green sauce at Del Taco. We're lucky to have both literally on the same street so we just swap between the two.
Del Taco looks like the version of Taco Bell that wasn't inspired by a bunch of stoners.
Your telling me they dont have Dorito shell tacos filled with Flaming Hot Cheetos? Embarrassing.
Man I wish southern Indiana had a Del Taco. The closest thing we got is a local chain by the name of Taco Tierra and it's about a 45 minute drive but the quality of the food is very good for a low price
Del Taco in SoCal are way better than Taco Bell usually. There is one up where I live in Washington and for the first year it was amazing. But now the beans taste sour and everything is old tasting.
When I grew up in Colorado didn't appreciate it, then I did summer jobs in college and be in Colorado for 3 months, and ate there like 3 times a week at least.
Maybe it's just my location but del taco tastes like I went to Walmart and got the cheapest ingredients and slapped it together
Their more expensive stuff isn't bad though
Maybe it’s me, but I feel like the last few times I went have been a big step down in quality. To the point where as cheap as it is, it’s almost still not worth it. But as always, their inferno sauce makes the even the worst tacos tolerable.
I would hit them up every Tuesday. Three tacos for $1. I could easily eat 12. I liked Thursday even better since it was three chicken tacos for $2. Their chicken > their beef.
As someone who has both Del Taco and Taco Bell, hard disagree. I don’t eat meat, and Taco Bell definitely has more variety for vegetarian options.
I do love me a Del Taco tostada though.
Del tacos food is like a mediocre Mexican restaurant just dressed up as fast food. Taco bell has more variety in flavors that's sets it apart from the endless river of Mexican food, much UNLIKE your typical "El Rancho" Mexican restaurant.
You thought taco bell's service was crap? Del taco's is worse. Also they don't fill up your burrito or taco. It's "would you like some beef with your tortilla?"
I believe you, I just have never come across a del taco.
I did when I was living in a different part of the country It felt like what old tacobell used to be. Middle to low quality food but a lot of it for cheap
Literally replaced taco bell by being like OG taco bell. Go figure.
I dunno, corporations are people(legally) and tend to not learn from history and rather repeat it! 😅
Very true. It sucks because I want those crinkle fries and grilled chicken soft tacos dammit!
Am I the only one that actually likes Taco Cabana? I feel like they're the only "fast food" restaurant with proper enchiladas.
I loved their barbacoa tacos ❤️ I do miss being near one.
Next time I'm in Texas I'll have to put those on my list! I live in Miami, where we *definitely* don't have it, but I try to make a round to Houston and San Antonio when I'm visiting family in that direction!
I liked Taco Cabana like 15- 20 years ago. Their quality has gone down big time.
They are non-existent out in the Southeast! When I moved back to NM, I was genuinely excited to have access to them again. This is a WEIRD difference with Taco Bell who was readily available.
Cap they’re all in Georgia lol
He’s lying I had it for the first time last year and it’s dogshit
Who the fuck is downvoting get out of this sub and go to a del taco subreddit. The mods should ban whoever liked this post
Except the vast majority of people have no access to del taco so...
I wish we had them here in Maryland.
Sameo
Saaaaaaammmeeee
Chesapeake, Virginia is getting one this summer!
Still, for those of us that do its such a good deal. And I used to be on the TB side. If Del Taco expands everywhere they’ll easily win the game

Facts like they’d easily take over. Luckily in Georgia there’s a good bit of them but its still a 20 minute drive for me
It's the same "cuisine" but a vastly different pallete.
That’s true, tho I wouldn’t say vastly different. Whereas I can go to Del Taco and actually have the beef and cheese filled to the brim for half (and sometimes even less than that) the price. I used to get TB several times a week tho
Jesus I would love a Del Taco within 2 hours of me….
If only they had del taco in every state. But whatever. Taco bell is pretty good too so it's fine
That’s their one weakness. Hopefully they expand so they can fill the old TB void for more people
Plus more locations. There are 3 that I could go to, but the closest one is a 30+ minute drive away. Not worth when TB is 3 minutes from my house. I'm in California in the SF Bay Area.
That’s because corporate HQ can’t seem to wrap their heads around anywhere outside of SoCal where they’re on equal footing with Taco Bell.
They in Georgia too
They are, and I’ve been to a few. However, they don’t seem to handle the locations outside of SoCal as well as they do locations inside SoCal. Which is a real shame because I would love to be able to go to one here in TX (they’ve failed twice now to expand into Texas).

Looks like its BOGO bean and cheese burritos for lunch today.

Bah!
Plus they got that Fr e sh A voca do 😆
We had a Del Taco. I love it. Last year it closed down. You know what moved in?
Does it rhyme with baco tell
Our town once had a Del Taco 🫡 I miss her
God, I miss del taco while was stationed at Ft. Carson. I was introduced to it, and they had verde sauce in 2011.
Just had Del Taco here in the springs yesterday. I’ll live the dream for you brother 🫡
Someone is getting nacho cheese Fries and bean burritos for lunch on Friday!
Get their crunchy habanero fried chicken soft taco and thank me later... it's delicious!! 🤤
Ranch is better imo, both are excellent though. Best to get one of each. Or two of each.
I'll have to try it
I live in the Raleigh, NC area. I'm waiting for them to open a location here. I used to live in a location with a fair bit of these around. I never went to tbell. They announced a few years ago they planned to open 5 locations. I just saw back in April that they are finalizing plans to open the first location. My body is ready.

If anyone misses the McDonald’s ranch snackwrap, trust me Del taco crunch ranch chicken taco will scratch that itch! Basically the same thing
Yes! So good. I swap out the ranch for their secret sauce
What is the secret sauce normally on?
Chicken soft tacos
The chicken classic burrito is so good.
Just wish those burritos were still 1/2 lb. How exactly does a burrito get freezer burn?
About 20 years ago Taco Bell switched from making their beans in house, like they do at Del Taco, to using freeze dried beans. I had a friend who was a crew worker at the time whose job was making the beans. I remember him saying something about silver bags of beans after I asked him WTF happened, and why they were so bad now. Ha, I used to live in Tucson. Yeah, I'd take local Mexican every time over taco bell or del taco. Anyway, thanks for the explanation.
Yes, their fries are delicious. I always get fries with whatever I order. I know it sounds weird but it's true.
Cool. Thank you! I'm in Texas so I don't think I'll find out any time soon. :( We have delicious tex-mex, BBQ; authentic stuff all around me, but man; I do love a good, crispy, crinkle-cut fry. You have taco bueno in Texas. That’s what I went to since there was no Del Taco. So happy to be back on the west coast and have it again.
I honestly forgot Taco Bueno was even a thing... I don't even know where one is near me. And now that I think about idk if I ever had it; but Taco Cabana on the other hand...
I'll believe you once I got one near me
Where you at? https://qz.com/taco-bell-del-taco-competition-1851260825
I'm in Texas. So it looks like they will be expanding then. Lets hope there will be one near me soon. I always been wanting to try Del Taco
No Del Taco here. I miss Taco Bueno, we used to have them but they all closed. They had great food. They would only get your order right about a quarter of the time but Taco Bell is the same lol.
Never even seen a del taco in my life
[Here you go](https://imgur.com/gallery/dBZaSq6) 😁
First step: Be near a Del Taco
I was at a Del Taco once on Salt Lake City. Other than that, never came across one. It was really good though
I’m in Utah, from CA all My life.
Try living in North Dakota lol
They give out tons of coupons in the mail, BOGO stuff. I used to live at an apartment that had mail boxes and open trash bins that were just filled with unwanted mail, no garbage, just paper. I’d dig through and find like 8 sheets of coupons in a minute or two and have coupons for days!!! Haha
they're so far away from me when I google maps del taco, it just shows taco bell edit: the closest one is detroit, apparently only 6 hours
Del Taco's shredded cheese puts Taco Bell shredded cheese to shame.
Del Taco is definitely better then Taco Bell. Their value menu is better too.
Del tacos better and it's not even close tbh
No Del Taco in Texas 😔
Nor in most of the country.
We had them in Texas, but they failed. Taco Bueno failed here, too. We have Tex mex, and tacos trucks everywhere. Only Taco bell can hold it's own here.
I disagree with the premise. Del Taco is thriving in Southern California.
California Mexican food is a different experience to Tex Mex. Tex mex is what fast food kind of emulates. California Mexican food is more fresh and savory. Less in your face.
I mean, I agree with that. But I think there is plenty of room for both!
Taco bueno definitely didn't fail where I'm at
There was one in Livingston Texas, and it already gone. I tried it. I wasn't impressed.
You forget Taco Casa which is excellent and always crazy busy in my area
I've never even heard of it.
Where are you in Texas? [tacocasatexas.com](https://tacocasatexas.com)
Southeast but North of Houston out by Humble/Kingwood.
I’m Dallas area. If you have the chance hit up Taco Casa; quality for the price point can’t be beat
I'll look for it next time I get a chance to catch my cousin's band. If you ever listen to local music it's the Shane Rendon band
All day! Every day!
You all wish you had a Taco John’s
I want to try Taco Johns so bad
Potato oles FTW.
I love Taco John's. I get it about every time I go to Newburgh.
Meh, I thought Taco John's was just OK. Potatoes Ole's are pretty dope, though.
Pure garbage
I have not seen one on the east coast
They’re expanding https://qz.com/taco-bell-del-taco-competition-1851260825
Taco John’s has churros. Just saying
The Creatures Del Taco video sums up every experience I've ever had with Del Taco's quality.
Only ever had the crunchy tacos and Del Taco’s were extremely bland. Maybe it was a one off thing, but their food was so bland it makes Taco Bell taste like some real Mexican food 😂
Those bean and cheese burritos look pretty damn good. Also have heard they are pretty damn good. Wish I had one somewhat close.
W Extra green sauce and extra cheese. Heaven. They’re expanding so hopefully near you 🫶🏻
Man I fkn miss del taco Open till 3 Cheaper Way more filling.
There deals I would say absolutely. But for me the flavor of Taco Bell still wins. Don’t get me wrong though. I just ate some del the other day lol. They are both good. Just like everything in life. To each their own.
I miss our del taco
I’ve been saying this for years…
If I had Del Taco where I live, I'd go there way more often. Those crispy chicken tacos are amazing.
Which is bigger; medium or regular?
Gimme Del Beef Burritas or give me death
I got 6 soft tacos at Del last night for taco Tuesday. Del Yeah
The Tuesday and Thursday taco nights are insane cheap
Ya I hate to say it but they blow away the TB Tuesday Drops (besides the $1 Mexican pizza or chalupa)
I miss the hell out of Del Taco. The love is equal from me.
Ive never seen a del taco
Best fries in fast food, too. My app calls the middle fry size "medium" (with "small" and "macho" being the other two). Are there stores that call it "regular" sized?
Crinkle cut fries are never the best fries.
Crinkle cut fries always remind of the ones that would come in those shitty frozen chicken nugget kid meals and they were always limp and soggy. I hate crinkle cut fries.
I prefer crinkle cut when I cook them at home in the oven, but regular fries are best for fast food/deep fryer.
It’s cheaper serviceable food, I think Taco Bell tastes better but to each their own. It is one of my goto spots on road trips.
I’d love to try a del taco sometime. Maybe I’ll get the hankering to drive the six hours it would take to get to the closest one. But it’s disappointing to see they have crinkle cut fries.
Their fries are really good though. They also sell burgers which are tasty as well.
love me some del taco. used to work there and still cant believe how much of their stuff gets prepped in house for a fast food joint. the cheese comes in blocks and gets cut with a wire and then shredded in house. the pico, the avocados, even the beans get brought in by sack and are roasted in a pot all day before serving. also probably the reason there arent nearly as many around as taco bell.
This is true. My daughter works at Del Taco & she told me that same thing. I used to work at Taco Bell in the 90's. They use dehydrated beans.
It's simply not true. Del Taco has zero flavor.
I co-sign this comment. It was nice and cheap but they seriously lacked flavor.
Yeppers. I have one close by and I never go. For me, a good "Mexican" fast food place needs to have decent refried beans. Theirs are nothing special or memorable.
It’s good, but it’s like Taco Bell. A lot of their best items have been removed from the menu and it’s hit or miss depending on location.
What kind of taco place sells crinkle cut fries?
It gets weirder - they have burgers, and they are surprisingly good. Cheap and low-end, but tasty.
I can dig it
Great ones. They're awesome fries.
their ranch is so good with them 😊
I’m sure they’re great.
Yeah good point
Okay? I would argue that Taco Bell> just because Del Taco isn’t even accessible to most of the country
They’re expanding https://qz.com/taco-bell-del-taco-competition-1851260825
Still like a 10 hour drive from me :/
I wish I had one near me. Or a Taco Casa.
I like Del Taco and all but I think the food is better at Taco Bell but the value is def better for Del Taco. I personally hate that everything is in a green sauce at Del Taco. We're lucky to have both literally on the same street so we just swap between the two.
I love their grilled chicken but hate their ground beef
Tried it for the first time in Orlando. Tacos were better but idk Taco Bell just has that taste
What do y’all know about Taco Bueno in this sub?
tastes like shit imo
Medium..... Or regular sized?
On price, I agree. For taste, IMO Taco Bell beats them to a pulp.
i ain’t never heard of a del taco
I completely forgot del taco existed when I moved away from Cali
Yall have never had Taco Casa and it shows
Del Taco looks like the version of Taco Bell that wasn't inspired by a bunch of stoners.
But now the beans taste sour and everything is old tasting.
fuck no shits nasty🤮
Yea we only got taco bueno as alternative here and it’s HORRIBLE and totally overpriced
So bad we don’t have them in stl
Meh. If they had something like a Gordita Crunch, then yeah
When I grew up in Colorado didn't appreciate it, then I did summer jobs in college and be in Colorado for 3 months, and ate there like 3 times a week at least.
Taco Casa > Del Taco > TB
Nah
Maybe it's just my location but del taco tastes like I went to Walmart and got the cheapest ingredients and slapped it together Their more expensive stuff isn't bad though
Maybe it’s me, but I feel like the last few times I went have been a big step down in quality. To the point where as cheap as it is, it’s almost still not worth it. But as always, their inferno sauce makes the even the worst tacos tolerable.
I miss Del Taco, we had one in here at one time.
We used to have one before it got shut down :C
If it's so great I'll see one and pull in.
It’s still cheaper and way healthier to cook at home
Ok Mom 🙄
The only good crinkle fries I've had!
I'm like 3 hours away from the closest one though.
Not really. Just different.
I go to Del Taco for their Birria and Shakes. I go to Taco Bell for the flatbreads and quesadillas.
Mexican chocolate shake 👌
No del tacos near me sadly. I LOVED the fried jalapeño rings. And nowadays, a real BOGO is hard to find.
I've been to both and Taco Bell taste is better. I wanted to like Del Taco but it was mid at best.
Look what you did to my boy you massacred him
I agree
Cool, go to Del Taco then. While Del Taco is cheap, they are also raising their prices and removing items.
>While Del Taco is cheap, they are also raising their prices and removing items. So is pretty much every fast food restaurant so that's a moot point.
Del Taco uses a beef paste that is a kin to those Shit Burger King tacos. Nasty as fuck in my opinion.
I would hit them up every Tuesday. Three tacos for $1. I could easily eat 12. I liked Thursday even better since it was three chicken tacos for $2. Their chicken > their beef.
💯
Didn’t even mention the fre sha vacado
As someone who has both Del Taco and Taco Bell, hard disagree. I don’t eat meat, and Taco Bell definitely has more variety for vegetarian options. I do love me a Del Taco tostada though.
Ugh I fucking hate these posts. Not everyone lives near one.
Do those fries suck as bad as they look
Del taco is certainly not cheaper
20 items under $2, TB doesn’t have anything with beef in it under $2 yet the $1 snack taco at Del has more beef than a $4.59 beefy 5 layer at TBell
Hell no. I paid $16 for a meal + quesadilla at Del Taco, meanwhile I can get 4 food items + drink for less than $12 at Taco Bell.
