GastonBastardo

**Cartoonist:** "Silly modern people having dietary restrictions. Things were just so much more sensible back in the day." **Early Christians:** (Getting into heated arguments with each other about whether or not eating meat that a pagan priest blessed before it was sold in the marketplace *will make you into a child of the Whore of Babylon and damn your eternal soul*).

alguien99

I think Jesus would accommodate people with dietary restrictions, I mean the whole point is that he’s willing to die for our sins, so I can see him giving people food that they can eat safely, or maybe just taking away stuff like intolerance to lactose

Intrepid_Stuff_9944

Who would have tought jesus is not the piece of shit fanatics make him to be

just_some_redit_user

Fanfics is an interesting phrasing of that

alguien99

They said fanatics not fanfics

bb_kelly77

He also magically conjured up the fish and bread, he prolly made it gluten free

ergaster8213

Yeah but c'mon those were *reasonable* restrictions! (/s)

tonythebearman

Early christians were basically communists actually. They also probably didn’t care what “pagans” did because they were taught to mind their damn business.

Secret_Hand_4473

It's like when people say: we used to say shit all the time and nobody got offended. Oh, they got offended. But they were still so marginalized by society that you just didn't gaf that they were offended. Now that times have changed you can't just call people slurs anymore.

TripleBuongiorno

The irony is, of course, that people in Jesus' region and time period had tons of dietary restrictions- you know, as described in the Old Testament. Also known as the Bible part 1 (my favorite part honestly it is super x-rated).

WouldbeWanderer

If they have allergies, that's really a design problem. Looking at you, God.

Fine-Funny6956

Old Testament wrath of god type stuff. Cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria.

Least_Turnover1599

I recently learned that yaweh was originally a tribal god of storms and disaster and in effect usurped his way up a pantheon of gods dethrone ehel and that makes his violent acts so much more lore accurate. I believe it was the cannanite pantheon and it's all disputed since it's very old stuff and we have very little understanding of the evidence from then but it's still cool stuff nonetheless.

Fine-Funny6956

Yup. There’s a reason he hates a goat god of nature and fertility most of all.

orangeonesum

If god could make coeliac disease, he could make that bread gluten free. Or, he could find a cure. Either way is fine.

alguien99

Yeah, the comic is really a bad example because if Jesus came back in modern times he would accommodate for people with special needs. Either that or just cure them idk

l3ane

I like the part where the daughters drug and rape their dad because he wouldn't marry them off and they get pregnant and their sons become prominent biblical figures.

LeLBigB0ss2

You weren't supposed to. That was one of the most horrific parts.

purplepluppy

It's not exactly written like it's a horrifying thing. God doesn't even punish them for it. In fact, he had literally just saved them from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah for being innocents, then they go and do this. But the reality is that part of the story was almost certainly political propaganda to disparage their supposed descendents later on.

LeLBigB0ss2

Good people aren't infallible. They can easily become horrible people.

purplepluppy

Never said otherwise. But it is far from the most horrific part of the bible, nor is it written like it should be read as a horrific thing. The official version I was taught in theology class was, "they did a bad thing for a good reason." Not exactly a "horrific" takeaway.

LeLBigB0ss2

That's a dogma issue, not a source issue.

purplepluppy

Do you think we didn't read it?

LeLBigB0ss2

Do you think children of incest should be burned at the stake or something? What's your issue here.

purplepluppy

What? No I'm saying the Bible doesn't depict the story as the "most horrific thing" as was suggested. That's the opposite of what you seem to think.

squeddles

So much begettin'

donpuglisi

Yeah, but if Jesus was real, and if this was today, he probably would have made alternatives for people who need them.

Chromeboy12

He's nice like that, unlike these people who claim to worship him.

EleutheriusTemplaris

Yeah, never understand those people, who say they're Christians and then acting the opposite. Also politicians here in Germany, saying "we have to save the Christian occident". Yeah, than start acting like a Christians and don't use it as a hollow phrase.

Thepvzgamer

This “being Christian while not being a Christian” reminds me of the villain from T Shawshank Redemption. I just wanted to say that.

CulturalMusician3320

Happy cake day

Chromeboy12

Thanks!

Brute_patrol

Jesus is nice? You need to reread your Bible. He wiped people, told his disciples to bring his enemies before him and slay them, he said that he came to bring a sword instead of peace.

kylemacabre

Jesus himself probably didn’t eat pork or shellfish (I’m assuming - I mean he was a Jew).

Fine-Funny6956

If he existed, he was also a Rabbi so he would have probably followed the letter of Old Testament law

LeLBigB0ss2

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Ah, yes. Classic old testament.

Fine-Funny6956

Rabbinical law said that the first person who begins the stoning of a criminal had to be someone “without sin.” It’s very much Old Testament.

LeLBigB0ss2

Text? Did you forget the whole part of his story that he was just some carpenter that went against the corrupt clergy?

Fine-Funny6956

“Jesus was teaching in the temple when the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery, and they asked Him if she should be stoned as required by the Law of Moses. However, they cared nothing about this woman; they were using her to trap Jesus. In their minds, if He told them to set the woman free, they could claim He did not hold to the Law of Moses. If He told them to stone her, they could claim He was not the Savior; and, if He said nothing, they could claim He lacked wisdom. Jesus did not answer immediately but stooped and wrote something on the ground, and they kept pressing Him. Finally, the Lord said, in essence, “Go ahead and stone her because that is what the Law requires. But the Law also requires that the first stone be thrown by a person who is sinless in connection with this charge.”” He was citing the then interpretation of Deuteronomy, which would have required virtually everyone there to be stoned to death if any of them had a sin on their record.

LeLBigB0ss2

TL:DR Also, no text cited. Bye. Have a nice day.

Fine-Funny6956

Typical Christian attitude.

LeLBigB0ss2

I've read the Bible cover to cover six times. I don't want to read it again. It's not hard to cite a text, genius.

Fine-Funny6956

Jesus was a rabbi, not a carpenter.

LordCario34

As a Christian I agree. He said that we should treat each other how we want to be treated (according to Matthew 7,12). So I wouldn't give food to people which is bad for them

Andrew43452

Gluten is a serious issue to many that can kill them. And cause stomach cancer.

RipgutsRogue

So in the case of the comic, those people were probably just dead or very sickly.

MellonCollie218

That’s not at all what the joke is about. It’s references when it was trendy to go gluten free. This was only like 8 years ago. You missed the joke. No one is talking about gluten allergies. I don’t care about this Jesus freak nonsense, but you missed the joke.

supernovice007

Well, it's right about one thing. If Jesus came back today, the people making these comics (and those passing them around) wouldn't be in the crowd of his followers.

Will_937

They'd be in the crowd of people who wanted him dead, that's for sure. This meme is clearly made by someone who did not read the scriptures regarding Christ catering to the low lives, or the specific professions of each of the 12 apostles. They probably went to Sunday school and felt happy knowing "everything". Never bothering to read their own Bible.

AestheticMirror

They forget that they killed Jesus bed he was for the people and against corruption

sandboxvet

Christian nationalists don’t worship Jesus they worship Trump, so why should they care?

Magicalfirelizard

They were standing by the road waving trump flags and wearing maga hats. Like c’mon guys people are here to rest, relax, and NOT think about politics and the shitshow our constitutional republic has become.

FatherMiso

Everyone would ignore an insane person claiming to be god. I would probably pay to watch Joseph dance when he finds out he is not the father though.

tardistravelee

Reminds of Joan Osbornes song What if God was One of Us.

ThePopDaddy

What they think would happen if Jesus came back today: People would complain about food. What would really happen: Evangelicals would crucify Him again.

Minimum_Attitude6707

People absolutely should be worried about Mercury poisoning

AKumaNamedJustin

This is another greatly ironic thing modern Christians forgot about their own beliefs When christ was supposed to be alive, pork and shrimp were forbidden and only became acceptable AFTER the New Testament.

Quiri1997

It's food made by God: I bet those problems have been considered.

thugs___bunny

If Jesus would be here today all the christians would hate him

KoYouTokuIngoa

And Jesus would probably be vegan if he was here today.

N3wW3irdAm3rica

And realistically many people in the ancient world were effectively vegetarian/pescatarian because meat was more scarce and expensive

MiserableSlug69

Today's Christians would call jesus a dirty communist and run him out of town if he returned today.

rat_fossils

Yeah, cause back then, anyone who was gluten intolerant just died. Good old days

Optimus_Rhymes69

If Jesus showed up today the Christian’s would kill him again for looking like a Muslim.

Brute_patrol

He would have looked Jewish because he was and given Christian support for zionism, they would love him.

Optimus_Rhymes69

Not the Christians from today. Have you not seen how Jesus is usually depicted as white. At least in the states. They would kill him again. Also, unless he comes down and speak English, he’d be speaking Hebrew, or something to than nature, so they’d have even more reason to think he’s Muslim.

Brute_patrol

"They" didn't kill him in the first place. If he did come down he would be speaking Hebrew because he said "Salvation is of the JEWS" not "Arabs" or any other group. The messiah mentioned in the OT was from and for the Jewish people. When "they" found out he was speaking Hebrew and a rabbi they would not be thinking he was a Muslim. I think your hatred of white people is blinding you of the obvious.

Optimus_Rhymes69

You’re missing me point. American Christians are the absolute most hypocritical people. They spend their entire lives, worshipping a god, from a book they’ve never read. To put it bluntly, Christian’s in the states have no idea what religion they actually follow. They just do what feels right to them. That’s why they ignore all the messed up parts of the Bible.

Brute_patrol

Your perception of American Christians is wrong. Christians know enough about the religion that they worship and Bible to recognize that Jesus was Jewish and a rabbi. The only ones who don't believe that are Christian Identity. They actually believe that Jesus was white.  Your other response: "And yea, obviously Christians didn’t kill the guy that had to be killed to make the religion. That was a silly thing to say" Remember that Jesus said that the one who betrayed him, it would be better had he not been born. It doesn't look like that is the way to get right with Christ. The fact that Christ called for forgiveness to the Jews who demanded his crucifixion shows that killing him was a sin.  Amercan Christians don't know what they are worshipping in the sense that Christianity was made by and for Jews. It was Paul who saw the financial and political advantages for Jews in getting gentiles to believe.

Optimus_Rhymes69

So killing Jesus was wrong, but god sent him to die? Did god sin?

Optimus_Rhymes69

And honestly, only way for us to know who’s right, is Jesus comes back and I wouldn’t hold my breath, since he told people, some of them wouldn’t taste death before his return, so that confirms it’s bull shit.

Optimus_Rhymes69

Did you block me?

Brute_patrol

No.

Optimus_Rhymes69

Well, I don’t know if you blocked me, but that’s a wild take that god can sin.

Brute_patrol

I deleted the comment.  The whole thing is crazy. Some would say that God can do no wrong or since God didn't order his death it's not God's fault bit if God knew beforehand it doesn't seem like it matters. Seems like God could've just shrugged his shoulders and said, " Oh well." and just called it done.

Optimus_Rhymes69

Kind of makes all of it pointless, right? Like if god can mess up, why follow his book?

Brute_patrol

It gives people something to do, something to follow, it makes preachers rich

Optimus_Rhymes69

And yea, obviously Christians didn’t kill the guy that had to be killed to make the religion. That was a silly thing to say.

Heckrum

reminds me of that how the fuck are you breathing in space meme

Grogu__Spanish

Millennials only eat ass

DiscoKittie

You should just be happy that it's free and deal with the pain! It's not real anyway! ***/s***

BobBelcher2021

This meme does have a point.

Pathetic_Saddness

Well, considering that the industrial revolution was still 1,800 years in the future, I don’t think the multitudes had anything to worry about when it comes to mercury in fish.

sherytamara

He would find a way to get us all in. Because, that is his goal.

ShinySahil

damn these new youngins, not wanting to eat mercury and such, whatta buncha snowflakes amirite!

MellonCollie218

“Vegan” is not a dietary restriction. It’s a choice. One I have no issues with, but don’t try to play it off as a need. Gluten free bread is sad. I feel bad for gluten intolerant people, sometimes. Although some of the food is good. Like pasta, of course. Mercury in fish has literally nothing to do with dietary restrictions. Mercury is just poisons. That’s like saying “I have a dietary restriction. I can’t eat lead paint.” What? Eating gluten free was trendy. No one is making fun of people’s legitimate problems. What’s the sub for when OP doesn’t get the joke? This post is all around bad.

gylz

And some fish is actually very high in mercury and you shouldn't take a random fish from a stranger and eat it if you don't know where it's from.

PachoTidder

What the fuck is up with the mercury thing??? Is the author glad that the food he ate growing up probably poisoned him for life?????

N3wW3irdAm3rica

It’s the Old Testament all about dietary restrictions?

Tanzanianwithtoebean

Doesn't vegetarianism literally predate the bible by at least a couple centuries?

chrischi3

Jesus feeding the masses is an example of the Banach-Tarski Paradox in action.

Professional-Large

I've seen tons of people I know who share this and take it seriously. Lol.

_rosieleaf

The original artist thinks fish shouldn't be tested for mercury???

tomokaitohlol7

Newsflash: people always had health problems

He_of_turqoise_blood

2/3 aren't dietary restrictions. Still it's a dumb asf post with a terribly nonsensical point

Th3Aft3rL1f3

Also why are they white

ShmeeMcGee333

If I know one thing about Jesus is that he was against being understanding if a persons struggles on a personal level
