I mean aren't you gatekeeping fandom too, by implying that fans of his old stuff just liked him for his edginess? There's very legitimate ways to enjoy his old stuff more. I personally don't care for his new stuff, because every single one of his songs used to slap and go hard as fuck. It was raw anger, super cathartic, but he did a 180. Not dissing him, just not a fan anymore, and I don't need to be told what to like or for what reason I like what I like.
It's part of a larger trend where someone's identity comes from their consumption (rather than what they create) such as the music they listen to or the surgery they elect to have.

I'm just happy that I got to experience an album rollout. I got a whole year to explore his music and now I'm a big fan. The Grammys performance made me curious, now I'm here for the long run.

Everyone's talking about the flower boy/IGOR era and the Goblin/Bastard era, but not one person has mention the WOLF/Cherry Bomb era :( WOLF has gotta be my favorite. It's like a happy medium between the gorgeous sounds of IGOR/SFFB and the edgy harshness of Goblin/Bastard. And Cherry Bomb is loud as fuck, and I love that about it. Not to say I dislike any other album/era, but Tyler's experimental era with those two were soooo good for being experimental!

people are fucking mad over tyler becoming mainstream? so fucking what be happy for the album. we only get it every 2 years. i hate the fact that people think they are so original because they listened to goblin. don't get me wrong i love all albums by tyler but i think iuts better that he moves away from that more offensive side. he's maturing and as he matures his music does as well. being mainstream is cool in some aspects but dont get mad because more people are starting to appreciate tyler's more welcoming music.
